Crushed

The clouds grew darker and closer, almost bathing the castle and hiding it. Remus looked out the window in his office. Even though it was almost three in the morning, he couldn’t sleep. His dreams were vivid and confusing and caused him to toss and turn. It was not long before the moon would be full and he had to leave the castle for several days. Who knew what would happen while he was away?
Something was going on with Amanda and Professor Snape. He’d watched her intensely the last couple of days, how the girl would almost run out of his office, cheeks streaked with tears. How she would appear out of a dark corridor, pale and shivering and with a look on her face as if she was to be sick. After one of his lessons he’d asked her to stay, and had cast a spell to show all hidden signs; he was horrified to see how she looked under the magical make-up.

~~~
“Amanda, please take your cloak off and roll up your sleeves”
The girl had started to cry even harder, shaking her head and keeping her arms crossed over her chest.
“Amanda!”
He looked at her sternly and took a step closer.
“Do it!”
Sobbing so hard that she could hardly breathe, the girl slowly slid her cloak off and started unbuttoning the buttons of the sleeves of her shirt. Each button taking an eternity because she was shaking so badly. Taking another deep breath before she started rolling her sleeves up, Remus gasped and clasped a hand over his mouth. This was horrible – absurd and…. He was speechless.
“Who did this to you?”
Really knowing the answer already, he crossed the distance between them and was about to grab her but she pulled away, biting her lip and shaking her head.
“We need to tell the Headma-“
“NO!....”
Remus looked at her, her eyes were big and round and her lips were trembling.
“No, nothing needs to be told – there’s nothing to tell… I … I did this to myself…”
Looking down Amanda felt sick again, she didn’t like lying to people, least of all Remus but he couldn’t know the truth. How the brutality had become more and more unbearable. How it was a battle to get out of bed in the morning because her entire body was hurting. But it was because of those DE meetings – that was when it was the worst. But also after a potion class with the Gryffindors or if Potter caught the Snitch faster than normal, showing that he truly was a wonder kid. Those were the times where he would send for her, asking her to sit and without warning – a spell or his hands would be upon her.
Sobbing again she had to gasp to catch her breath. If her Master got the word that she’d told… she shivered. The punishment would be….she shivered again.
Looking up at the professor she continued crying, not caring if it did her cause good but she just couldn’t stop.
“Please Remus… don’t tell anyone…”
Remus felt like pulling his hair out. She was lying and he knew it. It was frustrating to let her think that she could convince him of such a nonsense. He knew her better than that and he’d seen what curses left such marks, none of which she was cable of casting. Almost jumping on her, he grabbed her arms, not caring about the pain and bruises, holding her firmly and shaking her roughly.
“Don’t you get it? I know about you and Severus – I KNOW!”
He ended up shouting the last bit, not intentionally but he was so furious. How could she take the blame for that bastard? After all he’d done to her and she was protecting him. Without really noticing it he pushed her against the wall. Apparently hard enough for her to almost pass out. He had to catch her as her legs gave in.
“Oh… I’m sorry Amanda – please forgive me...”
Placing her down on his chair, he kneeled by her, holding her hands and rested his forehead on her knee. Tears started to fall from his eyes, landing on the soft skin of her legs.
Amanda looked at the man kneeling by her, he looked so exhausted and it was as clear as wolfbane that he worried a lot. Gently running a hand through his brown-grey hair, she sighed. Maybe she should just leave – that would end it all…. Right? Sighing she felt confused, her Master had taught her her place and taught her good, real good, actually she had never thought about leaving, not since the first day and that plan had been beaten out of her quickly.
Remus felt her hand in his hair and looked up. She was brave but also scared. He feared what Oliver would say about this, he had to report it – of course but he didn’t want Amanda in trouble. As she sat there she was so pale and her once perfect complexion was coloured by brutality and the inner pain of a bitter man – she didn’t deserve that.
Suddenly he rose a bit, releasing her hands but capturing her face, pressing his lips against hers. He just wanted her to feel god again but feeling how she froze between his hands, he ran a hand down her neck and rested it at the nape of her shoulder. Everything was going to be alright – he would make sure of that.
Amanda felt her world fall apart when he kissed her. Could she trust no one? Trying to move away she felt his hand rest at the nape of her neck, holding her down slightly. Having learned to read the silent language, she stayed seated, eyes pinned closed. Feeling the hand continue sliding down her chest and around her waist, she was pulled to her feet and pressed against the wall. Shivering she looked up at him, eyes dull and with no life- no more tears to cry.
Out of breath Remus looked at the girl, she seemed like she didn’t care but there was a little cry for help in her eyes and he was going to answer that cry. Kissing her again, deep and passionately, he started to undo her uniform, feeling more and more sad the more bruises he revealed. Making a silent promise to protect her forever, he kissed them all, taking his time in the strong believe that his kisses would help them heal faster and dull the pain.
Leaning against the cold wall Amanda felt his tender kisses down her body but instead of aid, she felt like he was tearing a part of her soul away with each kiss.
“Remus-“
Two fingers were gently placed on her lips and her professor’s hoarse voice was heard, whispering in her ear.
“Shyss….”
Kissing her lips again he smiled at her
“Don’t say anything… it’s going to be ok….
~~~

With that she broke down, collapsing to the floor and while pressing her hands over her ears she cried, harder and straight from her heart. No one could get through to her when she was brought to the Hospital Wing, neither Madam Pomfrey nor the Headmaster. None of her friends. She had locked herself in her own world and was in the Hospital Wind for the third week now. Remus growled and slammed his fist in the table, breaking the coffee cup which was left from his evening tea.
It hadn’t been his fault, it was all Severus’ fault, HE had been the one to torment her so badly. All Remus wanted was to love her and make everything good. Why couldn’t she see that? Why had she reacted like that? Like she hated him? Like she despised him?

(A/N: *snickers* Did I just make him sound mental?)
