Harry watched Snape enter the Great Hall and take his seat at the head table. He was surprised to see the man looking so refreshed and awake. Snape hadn’t looked so well in a very long time, Harry realized. He watched the man eat a little, then glare out over the room. He looked so much like his old self, that Harry decided whatever was ailing him had finally passed. That was until Snape looked at him.

He watched the dark eyes cloud over and saw fear in them before they closed. Harry sighed quietly as the potions teacher, once again, looked bleak and disturbed. He was glad that he was able to eat something at least. Maybe it would boost his energy. Harry shook his head sadly as the enigmatic man swept from the room.

“Well, that was interesting,” Ron said quietly from beside him.

“What was?” Harry asked confusedly.

“Snape. He looked fine when he came in, but looked like hell again when he left.”

“I think he saw us all staring at him and it made him nervous,” Hermione said, sitting on the other side of Ron.

“That wasn’t nervous, ‘Mione!” Ron informed her. “That was down right scared! Something’s really got him going.”

“Do you think it has something to do with You-Know-Who?” she asked in a conspiring whisper.

“Who else could scare Snape?” Ron countered.

“Do you think He knows?” she asked.

“No,” Harry said, staring into his plate in thought. “If He did, Snape wouldn’t still be here.”

Harry shook his head. It was no use trying to figure the man out, and since there was nothing he could do about it, why waste the brain power. By the time he had finished eating, Harry had managed to put all thoughts of the Potions Master out of his head. He spent the rest of the day in preparation of final exams.

That night, Harry crawled into his warm bed and quickly fell asleep, forgetting for the first time in months, to take the Dreamless Sleep Draught. It didn’t take long for the dreams to start.

Harry found himself standing in a large room, very much like the Great Hall, surrounded by hundreds of people wearing dark robes and masks. At the front of the room was a raised dais with a throne. Harry immediately recognized the person sitting in it as Voldemort.

He looked on as a robed figure knelt in front of him. He gasped as the robe and mask were dropped, revealing a naked Snape. Harry’s eyes glued to the man as his hair was pulled to the side, uncovering his pale neck. He watched with morbid curiosity as Snape ceremoniously handed the vial creature a long sword. His eyes remained glued to the scene as Voldemort stood over Snape, raising the sword high before bringing it down with a whoosh.

Harry closed his eyes before the sword struck and heard nothing. When he opened first one eye, then the other, he could see nothing. The room was completely black. He stared out, waiting for his eyes to adjust and after a few moments, he could make out two shiny dots. He stepped closer, until he was arms length from them and realized they were a pair of shiny black eyes. He reached out slowly to touch the face that held them and gasped with shock as the eyes blinked at him.

Just as he touched the cold, clammy skin, Harry felt a shift in the environment. He blinked, and suddenly found himself sitting on his bed in the dorm, wide awake. He looked at his clock and saw that it was only just after midnight. He knew he’d never get back to sleep, so he got out of bed and dressed quietly, wrapping his invisibility cloak around his shoulders. He slipped past the Fat Lady and made his way out of the school. He had to go somewhere to think.
