bitter end

Months go by and he has not seen or heard from her. In a way, he finds himself missing her presence. After only one night, he felt as if he had known her almost a lifetime. The death mark on his arm flares to life and breaks into his thoughts. He grabs his cloak and heads for Voledmort’s side.

Wormtail ushers him down a hallway, babbling nervously. “Lord Voldemort is quite displeases with the prisoner. No matter what we use, nothing but songs come from her lips. He wants you to bring her to him.”
Snape frowns, angry at being a babysitter once again. He hears a voice singing softly and nearly stops when he recognizes it, He quickly puts up a mask and steps into the room with her. She look sup from her place on the floor and acts as if she hate his very presence, making it easier for him to sneer back.
He grabs her arm, haul her off the floor, and propels her down the hall ahead of him. Even through all the pain wracking her body, she holds her head high and walks on. He admires her courage as she steps in front of her cousin, never once wavering.
Voldemort spins and growls at her. “I know there is a spy in my midst! You are Dumbledore’s secret keeper! You will tell me or die!”
She laughs and opens her mouth, singing out one verse to a song.
One day I’ll fly away!
Leave all this to yesterday
What more could your love to for me?
When will love be through with me?
Why live life from dream to dream
And dread the day when dreaming ends?

Something inside Snape unlocks and his eyes slightly open wider in surprise. Voldemort snarls in disgust and points his wand at her. “Avada Kedavra”
She grimaces in pain as the killing curse hits her, not allowing her cousin the satisfaction of hearing her scream. Her body crumples to the ground and Snape’s hands clinch in fists to keep from blowing his cover.
Voldemort kick the lifeless body in from of him and growls angrily. “Get this filth out of my sight!”
Without a second’s thought, Snape walks up and lifts the body into his arms. Knowing that Voldemort won’t expect him back, he quickly apparatus with her body to Hogsmeade, walking the rest of the way back to the castle.
Not knowing how he would know to be there, Albus meets him at the doors, eye full of tears. The older man gently lays a hand on her che cheek, whispering. “Ah child! Why did you let it come to this?”
“Albus, I need to speak with you. It was her dying wish.” Snape’s voice goes quiet.
The older man nods and allows Pomfrey to take her body away. Snape follows him to his private rooms and sits quietly til a strong drink is placed in his hands. Dumbledore finally sits in a seat across from him. “Speak, Severus. Tell me her wish.”
Snape downs the liquor and the tale of their night together and her confession falls from his li0ps. When his voice finally falls quiet hours later, Albus picks up a small crystal globe from a nearby bookcase, cradling it in his hands as the t4ears fall down his face.
“I asked her not to do the play. I knew it would draw too much attention to her but she insisted She sent me this last week because I had complained a not not hearing her sing.” He lightly touches the globe and her voice sings out, pure and strong.
Snape immediately recognizes the song she had spelled him with. The next song though pain him more than he expected. Her voice rings out to “Come What May.”
Albus touches the globe again, quieting it at the end of the second song. He turns away, shoulders shaking with his sobs. Snape slowly stands, leaving the grieving man alone. The shock finally fades as he steps into his office. He sits heavily down at his desk, closing his eyes against the pain. He silently vows to bring Voldemort down, even if it kills him to do so.
