Chapter Six: The Unexpected Companion
Chapter Six: the Unexpected Companion
The week passed painstakingly slow for Hermione as she was waiting for the details of her trip. After classes in the middle of the week, Dumbledore had found Hermione in her usual spot in the back of the library. “Hello, Miss Granger, I wonder if I could have a word with you in my office and could you please bring Mr. Malfoy with you.”
Hermione was very curious as to why the headmaster would want to see both of them. She found Draco on the quidditch pitch for the Slytherin practice. She walked to the edge of the field waiting for him to touch down to the ground.
While Hermione was standing there, staring up at the blonde head soaring through the air, Pansy sauntered over to Hermione. “What are you doing here mudblood? Came to spy for your Saint Potter?”
“It’s none of your business why I’m here, so back off,” Hermione said not looking in her direction.
Pansy pushed Hermione. “Better look at me next time I talk to you mudblood, you don’t belong here.”
Hermione glared over at Pansy, “I have no reason, or inclination to talk to the Slytherin slut, so fuck right off.”
Pansy’s eyes blazed, she pulled out her wand, but before she could even raise it toward Hermione, Hermione had her own wand raised pointing it in Pansy’s face. “Don’t even think about it,” she menacingly said.
Draco noticed his team’s attention pointing towards the ground, where he saw Pansy push Hermione. He descended to the ground nearby and sauntered over to them, as Hermione’s wand was pointing at Pansy’s face.
“What do you think is going on here, I am trying to have a practice here and can’t when you are disrupting my team. Put your wands down now!” Draco yelled.
“Sorry Drakie, but this ‘thing’ was spying on us. I was just trying to get her to go away,” Pansy said as she clung to his arm.
Draco shook her hand off him in irritation and looked over at Hermione who was smirking. “Well, Granger, did you see enough to report to your dumbass friends.
“Don’t be such an asshole Malfoy, I came to look for you because Dumbledore wants to see both of us right away,” Hermione said.
“Fine, lets go from here, I can change after the meeting,” he said as he grabbed Hermione’s arm.
Hermione laughed and walked on. “You should tell your girlfriend to back off . . . I’m not such a pushover any more.”
Draco scowled over at Hermione. “She’s not my girlfriend. She’s like a cold that I can’t get rid of.”
“Okay, Drakie, whatever you say,” she cheekily said, as Draco scowled back at her.
A short while later Draco and Hermione were sitting in front of Dumbledore’s desk waiting.....
“What were you needing to discuss with us Professor?” Hermione asked.
Dumbledore looked over at Hermione smiling. “Relax, nothing urgent, I just received word on the final plans on your trip. I have been in contact with the photographer’s assistant, who happens to be an old student from here about ten years ago. She is a witch and quite successful. Her name is Jaqueline Porter, but she likes to go by the name of Jinx . . . she was a handful, that one . . . well anyway you will apparate directly to the airport in a designated secluded area, then fly by plane to the resort where the photo shoot will take place. You will be leaving in two days time mid-morning.”
“Excuse me Sir, but what has this got to do with me?” Draco asked irritated that his quidditch practice was interrupted for this.
Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled as he looked over at Draco. “Why, because you will be travelling with her to ensure her safety . . . ”
“What, no way . . . ” Hermione interrupted.
“She can take care of herself. She doesn’t need me there.” Draco fumed.
“What about Harry or Ron? Why him?” Hermione said, as she motioned over to Draco.
Dumbledore put up his hands to cease their talk. “ I would like Mr. Malfoy to accompany you because I want you two to set an example to the other students how to get along. And, not Mr. Potter or Mr. Weasley can accompany you because they are training some new quidditch players. Now, that is the final decision,” he firmly said.
Hermione accepting the decision asked , “We’ll be flying by plane? Why don’t we just apparate to the resort?” Still, not liking this turn of events.
“Because a muggle by the name of Derek, which I believe you have already met Miss Granger, will be meeting you and your guest at the airport,” Dumbledore stated.
“Now, if that is all, we’ll meet here Friday mid-morning. Remember that you will be among muggles, so dress appropriately. That will be all, enjoy the rest of your day.”
Hermione and Draco were both silent as they trudged to their dorm. She plunked down on the couch in disbelief that Dumbledore would do this to her. “I can’t believe he put me with you of all people, he knows we hate each other,” Hermione said, shaking her head.
Draco stopped his pacing and smirked over at Hermione, “You know hate is a pretty strong word. I’m not too impressed with the old man’s decision either, but hey, it’s a couple days away from classes. What kind of modelling is it anyway for Dumbledore to think you need a protector?”
