Hold On

Siri walked quietly into his father’s study, looking around to make sure that Hermione and Grandma Molly were nowhere in site. He quickly walked to the fireplace and stood on his tippy toes reaching for the yellow floo powder. He glanced one last time behind him, threw the powder into the fire and shouted, “Lestrange Manor!” He watched as the flames shot up and turned green and then stepped through the fireplace. A moment later he tumbled out onto the dusty floor of another study. He quickly shot up and looked around him.

There was nobody in the room and he breathed a sigh of relief. He looked down at his dirty clothes and smirked. His father would be disgusted with the residue from the fireplace covering him. He really could care less though and didn’t give it another though. He glanced around the room at the rows of dusty books and the desk that looked as though nobody had sat at it in years. The chair was even covered in a thick coat of dust. He slowly crept toward the corridor carefully watching for any signs of someone else hanging around. When he was sure the coast was clear he slowly made his way down the long, dark hall towards the stairway that his grandfather said would be there.

A few moments later he could see it ahead of him. He started to race towards the welcoming stairs when he heard a deep voice shout, “She denies being a Medium!”

“Did you expect her to tell you the truth?”

“She informed me that it was Lucius who was the Medium. It makes sense, he seemed to know everything and was always a step ahead of the Dark Lord,” the man said defending himself.

“Lestrange, you idiot!” the voice shouted. “Don’t you know anything?” Siri could hear stomping as the voices slowly disappeared in the opposite direction. He waited for a second longer and then made a mad dash to the stairs. He needed to find Lilly while he still could. He raced as fast as his small legs could carry him up the stairs to the third level and stopped for a moment and panted trying to catch his breath. He looked down the long hallway and sighed. There were dozens of doors and he didn’t know where to look. He turned one way and then the other when something caught his eye. He could see footprints in the dust leading down the corridor to the left. With a smile he slowly followed the tracks.

He saw that they went almost to the end of the hall and he stopped in front of the door that they disappeared under. He hoped that this was the right room. If he entered it and it was someone else, he would be caught and he wouldn’t be able to help Lilly. Slowly, he reached out and turned the knob, praying that he would find his sister behind the door. He slowly pushed it opened and cringed when it screeched. His eyes bugged out at the site in front of him.

“What took you so long, Siri?” Lilly grinned as she sat on the edge of the bed with her hands folded neatly across her lap.

Arthur tripped on a broken step and stumbled noisily in the back door biting back a curse. He prayed that nobody was close enough to the door to have heard him, but figured they would have to have been hard of hearing not to have. He stood up and looked around and decided that he was probably safe. The kitchen was covered in so much dust and grime that it was doubtful that anyone had been in the room in years. He couldn’t find any signs of recent use.

He slowly stepped forward and winced at the creaking sounds that the old floor made. The house was in obvious disrepair and he cursed slightly again at the noise. He wondered if there were any house elves still about and hoped not. He knew that they were usually loyal to the their owners and their home and would stay even when there were no inhabitants about, still dutifully doing their job.

Cautiously he moved deeper into the house. He wondered where they could be keeping Lilly. He worried about who else was in residence with Lestrange. He was a known enemy, but whoever was with him was not. He worried about the unknown. He should have asked the Aurors to come for backup, but Harry and Draco didn’t want to involve the Ministry and he couldn’t blame them. It was easier and quicker when the ministry was not involved, but it was also more dangerous.

He eased into the main part of the house and could see fresh prints in the dust. They lead into each direction from here. He turned back and flicked his wand at his own prints making them disappear so that nobody would know that someone had been in that direction. He wondered which way to go from here and decided to go straight ahead. He saw a large staircase and briefly wondered if he should go up them, but decided that they would probably keep Lilly close to them. A few moments later he was in a study that he could tell had not been used in years. He saw that dust on the floor had been disturbed and small footprints leading away from the fireplace.

He stood quietly staring for a moment and then his heart stopped. It looked as if a child had come through the fireplace; fallen on the floor, and then made its way out of the study and back down the corridor he had come from. Who could have came in this way? What child would seek entrance into the Lestrange fireplace? What floo was hooked to allow entrance to this one? He gasped at what his mind came up with. Bellatrix Lestrange would have left an open floo connection to her sister, Narcissa Malfoy. With both women dead, who would have though to cut the connection? The only possible answer would be that Sirius had come through.

Arthur quickly turned and rushed quietly back down the hallway. He stopped at the end of the hall and looked in each direction trying to guess which the child could have gone. He looked at the prints on the floor and though that they went toward the stairway. He quickly ran across the foyer and towards the stairs when he heard, “Cruciatus!” and felt his body stiffen in pain. He dropped to the floor, his entire body aching.

“Who the hell are you?” and angry voice shouted, easing up on the curse.

Arthur gasped in pain and whispered, “I am Arthur Weasley, with the Ministry of Magic!” he said.

“What is the Ministry of Magic doing in my home?”

“We received word that there had been signs of inhabitation and we were under the assumption that all the Lestranges were dead. I was sent out to investigate,” he lied, trying to sit up.

“Stay on the floor, you blood traitor!” he hissed. “Don’t think that I don’t know who you sided with during the war, Weasley!” he said furiously.

“The wars over!” Arthur cried as a stunning spell was sent in his direction.

“You have no business being in my home! The Ministry is not welcome here!”

Arthur said, “If you will just release me, I will be on my way.”

“He lies!” another voice said, coming up from the other side of Arthur. “He is here with Malfoy and Potter. I have just seen them outside, sneaking towards the manor.”

Arthur recognized the voice, but he wasn’t sure from where. The man stood behind him where he could not see him and he couldn’t turn towards him as he was immobilized.

Rabastan looked from his unwanted visitor on the floor to his companion in the doorway. “Are you sure?” he asked.

“They shall be in the back door within seconds. Shall we allow them to think that they are safe and see what they do, or should we just kill them now?” he hissed evilly.

“What about Weasley?” he demanded.

“What about him? Kill him with the other two,” the man said.

“That will bring the Ministry down on our heads!” he argued.

“We will be gone as soon as that kids tells us where Bellatrix has hidden the key. She should never have had it to begin with after Rodolphus died!” he said angrily.

“She was his heir,” Rabastan said.

“You are the last Lestrange, it should be yours! Damn those goblins for not allowing you into the vault!”

“Antonin, there is nothing I can do about that!” Rabastan said in exasperation. “I have told you that my brother left everything to his wife! She made her nephew her heir!”

Arthur was stunned. Antonin Dolohov was presumed dead in the final battle. He himself had seen the fight with him and Professor Flitwick. He couldn’t believe that the man was standing behind him alive.

“You should have demanded that Malfoy give you access to the vaults!”

“I have told you, he has no love for me! He hated the death eaters and all that we stood for! It was bad enough before he hooked up with Harry Potter, but now he is worse than ever!”

“Well, we have their precious daughter upstairs! That should quickly put them in the right frame of mind! When given the choice of access to the Gringotts vault or the life of their daughter, who do you think that they will choose?”

“Is that what this is all about?” Draco shouted coming up behind them. “You can have the damn vault, Lestrange! I never wanted it!” he growled. “I haven’t once been inside of it since I found out that Aunt Bella left it to me!”

Rabastan turned and looked at the younger man with disgust. He stood with his wand out towards him and his mate, Harry Potter, stood behind him with his wand pointed as well. “Like I believe even for a moment you would just walk away from all of that money!” he sneered.

Harry snorted. “Do you know how much money the two of us have combined? We don’t need or want the Lestrange vault! All of this could have been avoided if you had just come to us and asked for it. You are the last Lestrange alive, you are entitled.”

“Don’t believe them!” Dolohov shouted. “They’re trying to trick you!”

“Why would we do that? We only want our daughter back!” Draco shouted. “Give us Lilly, and we shall sign the vault over to you, no strings attached!”

Rabastan looked from Draco and Harry to Arthur, who was still stunned on the floor, back to Antonin. “You will give me all of it?” he demanded.

“Yes!” Draco shouted. “Every last galleon and moldy family relic!”

“It’s a trick, I tell you!” Dolohov shouted and pointed his wand at Draco shouting, “Sectumsempra!”

Draco immediately hit the floor, slashes of open skin appeared and blood poured from the wounds. He cried out in pain and watched in horor as his blood flowed from his body.

“No!” Harry shouted. He pointed his wand at Dolohov and shouted, “Avada Kedavra!” and the man dropped to the floor with a look of shock permanently glazed onto his face. “Draco!” he gasped dropping down next to his husband. “Hold on, love, I’ve got to get you help!” he urgently whispered.

“Lilly, you have to help Lilly,” Draco softly moaned.

“Just hold on, love!” he said and apparated the two of them away.

Rabastan and Arthur stared in horor at what just occurred. It took Arthur a moment to realize that he was free from the stunning spell and he slowly sat up. He watched as Rabastan kneeled down in front of Antonin with tears streaming down his face. “Oh love, why?” he cried throwing himself into his dead lovers arms.

Arthur quietly pulled himself up off the floor and tried to sneak away before the weeping man noticed, but he didn’t get very far before he heard, “Don’t take another step, Weasley, or you’ll join Antonin in hell!
