Chapter 52
Harry looked at Draco and groaned. Now that they were spotted he knew that there was no getting away from the public. At Draco’s nod to Harry’s unspoken question he withdrew his mirror. Speaking softly so that no one could hear him he called for Ali.
“Hey Ash what’s wrong? I thought you and Drac were having a boy’s day away from your crazy hormonal wives.” Ali said tongue in cheek.
Harry smirked “Cute Ice real cute. Everything is fine but Draco and I just got recognized. Can you and Mione get here quickly?”
“Sure but why? If the public just saw you two why do you want us there?”
Harry just gave Ali a look which made her laugh and say “Give us ten maybe twenty minutes ok bro?”
“That’s fine sis see you in a few.” Harry said putting his mirror away.
“The girls coming?”
“Yeah Ice said to give them twenty minutes.”
At that Draco burst out laughing. “Twenty minutes?”
“Yeah why?”
“Oh come on Harry you know your sister well enough to know that if she says twenty minutes that means she is already ready to go. Hell it takes Ali thirty seconds just to get ready to train. I’ll bet you five galleons that says she was dressed and ready to walk out the front door when you called and that she will be here with Hermione in five.”
Harry grinned and said “Sure but let’s make it ten.” They shook on it just as an older wizard walked up to them.
“Mr. Potter? Mr. Malfoy?”
Both turned and said “Yes?”
The older wizard said while holding out his hand “I just wanted to say thank you for what you have done for the wizarding world. It took a lot of courage to stand in front of You-Know-Who. For that I thank you.”
Harry shook his hand then Draco. That one handshake started a frenzy as people lined up for the chance to thank the two heroes.
“My goodness. I can’t even let you leave the house without causing trouble now can I Drac?”
Draco turned and caught his smiling wife in a hug. Casting a quick Tempuras charm he smiled and looked over at Harry. “Four minutes Potter pay up.”
Harry laughed. Over the year that Draco had been with Ali the two had become more than friends. The bond between them was as strong as the bond between brothers which is what they considered each other to be yet calling each other by their last names had been such a habit that it had now become a fond term of endearment towards the other. Reaching into his pocket Harry pulled out the ten galleons and tossed them at a smirking Draco. “You win Malfoy.”
Ali rolled her eyes as Hermione came up beside Harry. As each man grabbed his wife’s hand they lead them calmly to a table. Draco helped Ali sit down his touch lingering as long as the baby would allow. Harry caught the gesture and smiled a sad sort of smile as he and Hermione sat side by side. She leaned over to him and whispered “They are going to be fine Harry.”
Harry kissed her and then looked at Ali. She looked drained. Her pregnancy was just starting to show and yet she was pale. It was obvious that she had lost weight despite her rounded stomach and the dark circles under her eyes stood out. “Oh Ice why didn’t you tell me?”
Ali rested her hand on her stomach calming her unborn son. Taking Draco’s hand in hers she said “I couldn’t Ash. There isn’t anything that you could have done and the baby sees everything as a threat. This is the first time I have even been able to hold Drac’s hand for more than a few seconds.”
Draco looked down at their joined hands realizing that she was right. “What happened and why can I touch you now?”
Ali decided to test the waters and leaned over quickly kissing him. She pulled away and grinned “Thank Severus. He developed a potion that dampens the baby’s power and creates sort of a bubble around him.”
Draco put his arm around Ali and pulled her close. It felt so good to have her body next to his that he let out a small groan. Ali giggled at his discomfort and kissed him before the kiss could get to heated they were interrupted again by the last person they wanted to see.
AN: Me and my cowriter friend will be held up together during New Year's Eve working on story. We will hopefully get a few chapters cranked out during that time.
