Lilly
Lilly sat on her bed quietly holding her doll tightly against her chest. Her heart ached and she missed her family more than words could say. She tried to sniff back the tears that were falling down her cheeks but it was a loosing battle. Arabella had just shown her the announcement for the twin’s birth and she was happy that they were born and everyone was well. She loved the names that Dad had picked out and knew that it couldn’t have been Daddy because he did not like Grandpa Weasley enough to name one of the babies after him. Although, the Severus part kind of sounded like Daddy and not Dad so maybe they choose together.
She was excited to see the twins and Jazzy and was so happy to know that they used the name that she had picked out. She felt so left out to be here alone with Arabella while the rest of the family was at home celebrating. She knew that she had to make sacrifices; Arabella told her that at least once every day, but she was tired of it. She didn’t want to be a medium. She wanted to play with Siri and see her sister and brothers. She wanted to hug her dad’s every night and have them read her stories in their gruff voices. She wanted to play dress up with all of her pretty clothes and jewelry that used to be Grandmother Narcissa’s.
She wiped away the tear that dripped from her chin and hugged her doll tighter. She was tired of Arabella telling her what an honor it was to sacrifice your life for others. She figured if it was such an honor someone else should do it instead of her. She could still remember the look on Arabella’s face when she suggested it. She had looked at her like she was the naughtiest little girl ever. Arabella never yelled at her, but she gave her the “look” and she always knew when she was upset.
Lilly stood up and walked to the window and looked out onto the street below. She was tired of living in yucky apartments and having to move all the time. She wanted to be home at the manor where she had a beautiful bedroom and lots of toys to play with. Here it was almost always studying and when she wasn’t learning how to block her thoughts and emotions she was learning how to block others thoughts and emotions. The only fun thing that she got to do was watch videos. That’s where she had figured out the name for Jazzy. The library had videos that you could rent and Arabella always let her pick them out when they went to the library.
She looked at the busy parking lot across the street and saw a man staring up at her. She quickly moved from the window and out of his view. At first she had a hard time telling the difference from a live person and a ghost, but now she could. Arabella had told her to never make eye contact with anyone because if it turned out to be a ghost then they would follow her trying to get her to help them. She could now tell difference and knew that the man across the street was alive. Arabella said that the alive ones were just as bad because the preyed on pretty little girls. She wasn’t quite sure what that had meant, but she was going to ask her daddy when she saw him.
Lilly was having a bad day because she had thought that they could go and meet daddy but Arabella said that it was not the right time. She had been looking forward to the birth of the twins since Jazzy was born so that she could see everyone again. Now she had to wait again. Arabella hated it when she cried and complained so Lilly had learned to stay confined in her room when she was sad. She went to her dresser and pulled out her mirror and thought about calling her dad. She stared at it for a moment and set it back inside the dresser. Arabella had told her to be very careful using it and only when it was necessary. She went to the shelf and pulled down her special ball. She smiled and said, “Siri” and then listened to his silly message.
“To my favorite sister in the whole wide world who I love more than life itself, except of course for chocolate. Sorry, Lilly, but you know how much I love chocolate. Think of me every time that you eat it. I can’t wait until your home again. They don’t know it, but you and I are going to be in Hufflepuff together. Of course, don’t tell dad, he’ll be upset that we’re not Slytherin’s. Right now they think that you are not going to go to Hogwarts with me, but you will. You’ll be home after only three years. Be strong and brave like the Gryffindor, and sneaky and manipulative like the Slytherin’s. Study hard and long like the Ravenclaw’s and soon you and I will be back together again. Don’t tell Dad or Daddy about this because they’ll get mad that I am making prophesies again. Just trust me, Lilly. You know I am always right. I love you, Sis.”
The first time that Lilly had heard her brother’s loud booming voice on the ball she had grinned. She kept his information to herself, but lived his words to the letter. She wanted to go home and was going to do everything that she could to make it happen. Arabella had told her that she was doing exceedingly well and if she kept it up she would be home in time to start Hogwarts. She was going to be home before that! She had no intention of being left behind any longer than she had to.
“Daddy,” she said wanting to hear her father’s voice.
“Lilly Narcissa, you don’t know how much I love you, my darling daughter. You are the apple of my eye, and I will miss you so much. You are off on a grand adventure without me, and I want you to be brave and strong like your dad. That’s the one thing about Harry that I was always jealous of, love, he could adapt to any situation with ease and make it seem like he had already spent a life there. You are a lot like him that way. Don’t be afraid, you know how to reach us if you need to. Trust Arabella, I would assume she knows what she is about as your dad seems to have confidence in her. You’ll be home again with us soon enough, and then I will never let you leave again. It breaks my heart to think of you gone, but I know that you will come back stronger for the experience. Remember, Lilly my love, I am here for you and I love you very very much.”
Lilly sniffled and smiled. Her daddy always tried to be brave, but he was really a cream puff. She didn’t have to be a seer to know that the second she left he collapsed into Dad’s arms and cried for hours. Then he probably stood up, washed his face, and pretended as if nothing had happened. He would never allow anyone but Dad to see him at a disadvantage. He would not ever want anyone to perceive him as being weak.
“Dad,” she said.
“My little Princess. I am not going to tell you to be strong and brave, I am sure that your daddy has already said that. I am not going to tell you not to cry and not to miss us. If I were you, every time I was sad I would cry my eyes out and miss us like crazy. A good cry does you good; at least that’s what Aunt Hermione said. You’re lucky, you’re a girl. A man can’t cry without everyone thinking he is weak. A girl can cry all she wants and nobody thinks anything of it. So Lilly, cry for both of us, because I will have to be brave and strong for your daddy and Siri. In my heart I will cry, but on the outside I will pretend that everything is grand and that you are fine. I promise you that I will take care of your Daddy and your brother. I know that you will be fine with Arabella. When I was young she looked after me, and helped me from loosing my wand when Dementor’s attacked my cousin and I. She’s a bit strange, anyone who collects as many cats as she does has to be, right? Just trust her and listen to all that she teaches you. I will be in your heart each and every day, my daughter. I love you.”
She loved how Dad took care of everyone. Everyone thought that he was the savior of the Wizarding world. She knew better. He was the savior of her Daddy. He was the bravest man she knew. She was proud to call him Dad.
She set the ball back on the shelf and sat down. She felt better now. She went into the bathroom and washed the tear tracts from her face and then walked out into the living room where Arabella was watching the television. “What’s for dinner?” she asked with a soft smile.
“I have sent an owl to your Dad. We shall meet them for dinner.”
“Really?” she gasped in surprise.
Arabella nodded and smiled. She knew how down Lilly had been feeling and decided that they would meet her family this evening. “Really.”
“I’m going to go get ready!” she shrieked with a huge grin and ran back to her bedroom.
“I don’t understand this, Harry. Only one of us is to take the port key?” Draco demanded as he read the note.
Harry sighed. “We can’t take a port key with three tiny babies. She wants one of us to port key to where she is while the other one drives the children to London.” He whispered softly in Draco’s ear the name of where they were going so that no resident ghost could hear. “You can port key and I will take the kids in the car. When I get to London I am to contact you via Lilly’s mirror. At that point you will tell us where you are and I will drive to meet you there.”
“Harry you know that I hate you taking the babies in the car! Muggle transportation scares me and I don’t think that it is safe!”
“Honestly, Draco, Muggles have been driving cars for decades! It is perfectly safe to drive in one. You and I have driven in the car several times. Siri has been in the car thousands of times. When we lived in America that is how we got around. Didn’t you take Lilly around in a car when you were together?”
“No! We walked where we needed to go. The only Muggle transportation we ever took was an airplane, and I figure if that started to go down I could apparate us out of there.”
Harry laughed. “And you couldn’t do the same thing in a car?”
“No! In a car they are trapped in the back seat in those Muggle car seats you insisted on buying. I couldn’t get them all out of those seats fast enough to get us out of there!”
“Those car seats are required by Muggle law, Draco. They are to keep babies safe if there is an accident.”
“See! Muggles assume that you are going to wreck your car so they invented safety seats!”
“Draco, sometimes I really worry about you,” Harry said laughing. “Would you feel better driving?”
“God’s no! You know I don’t have a drivers license!”
“Alright then, I am going to get the children ready and go. You keep the port key ready so that when it activates you have it. We’ll meet soon.”
Draco sniffed and nodded. “I’ll help you change the babies. What are you going to tell Zozo?”
Harry shrugged. “Just give her the night off. She’ll like that.”
“The night off? I had plans for you tonight, Harry! Tell her to be home by nine.”
Harry shivered in anticipation. He and Draco had had very little alone time lately and he was looking forward to his alone time with him. “Alright, I’ll let her know.”
Within a half an hour they had Siri and the babies loaded in the SUV. “We’ll see you later, love,” Harry said kissing his husband passionately.
“Dad!” Siri complained with a look of disgust. “Do you have to do that in public?”
Draco laughed. “Someday you will find someone that you want to kiss, and you will do it every chance you can, even with your kid’s whining in the back ground.”
“Hey! I’m not whining!”
A/N: It just sort of dawned on me that I have never mentioned Lilly's point of view or how she was feeling. What do you think? Respond!!!
