Death of a Saviour

Chapter 53 Death of a Saviour

With the dagger connecting them, the Dark Lord apparated himself and Harry to the back garden, its flowers and bushes as unruly as the front of the house scattered amongst the hay-like grass. His Death Eaters were able to follow him easily through the Mark, but the Order and it various members, including Hermione, had to run through the house frantically searching until someone saw them through a window.

Before they arrived though, Voldemort had forced the dagger from Harry's hand during the young man's confusion of their trip to the outdoors. He held it up to the setting sun to look it over before placing it in the folds of his robes. Harry stood stock still as his nemesis circled him like a vulture surveying its prey, the twenty or so Death Eaters in a semi-circle around the two. When the Order got to the scene, their numbers in the mid thirties, they came out with wands blazing.

Immediately two Death Eaters went down, stunned as the others started attacking. The Dark Lord, thinking that there was absolutely no reason for him to be outnumbered, called another group to him, including the Hogwarts students, though their identities were hidden behind their masks. It was a scene of absolute chaos, the colored light from the spells that were being sent brightening the area during the last moments of dusk.

Lupin and Tonks were trying to get to Harry, who was now engaged in a battle with the Dark Lord, though it could really be called a dodge-a-thon. Despite the fact that he had dueled the entity, for one could not calll him a man, three years previous and had been training for this moment for the past year, he was still no match. Especially in an unfair fight.

As Hermione looked around and surveyed the scene before her, she saw Snape engaged in what appeared to be a jovial battle with one particular Death Eater. They were jumping around, shouting at each other, and neither was throwing any truely harmful curses. Not to mention that he was actually smiling as well as laughing, two things she had never seen before. Interesting. Turning a little she could see the Weasley twins taking on four at once. They almost looked like they belonged in a muggle movie, back to back firing their hexes and blocking the incoming ones in practiced synchronicity.

Bill was fighting against Greyback who was obviously looking to finish what he had started at Hogwarts. Their fight was much more of a physical fight than the surrounding ones. As she watched Greyback took a calculated swipe to Bill with his overgrown yellow nails that had been broken into points naturally, catching the man in the face and pulling away large lengths of skin revealing a bloody mass of purple muscle. Bill winced with the pain but with all the adreneline pumping through his veins giving him enough strength to keep fighting back with a roundhouse kick that was caught by the werewolf in midair. He was forced to the ground while Greyback used his now bloody fingernails to slice open the soft skin of the man's belly, whose entrails spilled out of the cavity, pooling on the ground as he took his last breath. Charlie had tried to reach his brother in time, but there was too much in the way.

Both Weasley parents were at Grimmauld Place awaiting the return of their family and the rest of the Order, as well as Harry and Hermione (though a bit grudgingly) while their only daughter slept in one of the rooms upstairs.

A ways away from her she could make out Draco's voice casting the Sectumsempra followed closely by the tickling charm and just as quickly with a Crucio. Behind him Bella was making it a sport of cheering on her nephew while she sent out random Crucio's.

Stephen Cornfoot, whom neither Hermione nor Harry realized was a part of the Order until that afternoon was being Crucio'd in long intervals by a Death Eater Hermione assumed was Zabini. His laugh certainly sounded like Zabini. Lupin and Tonks were still a full twenty feet away from Harry, but it was a crowded and dangerous twenty feet. Before they could get any closer to him, a petite figure apparated between him and Voldemort.

"Ginny! What are you doing here?" Harry exclaimed.

"Harry, I love you! I always have, I always will. Hermione doesn't care for you, no matter what she says, don't believe her." The redhead grabbed the front of Harry's shirt as she pleaded with him, filling him with her love. He could feel himself growing stronger with it as it enfused his being. The Dark Lord could sense this growth of strength and decided it needed to be cut off at the knees.

"MUDBLOOD!" he called out, startling every person on his property into a momentary cease-fire.

A second later Hermione popped between her master and the duo of Harry and Ginny. "Yes, My Lord?" she asked primly.

"Take your spells off the blood traitor." In response she nodded and waved her hand in the general direction, undoing her complicated spellwork with the will of her mind.

Ginny could feel the difference right away and started to spill her guts, all Order members enraptured at the sight of their precious Hermione Granger taking orders from He Who Must Not Be Named. It gave the Death Eaters time to kill off a few of them before the fighting started up again, not much attention being paid to the Main Event.

"Harry, Hermione is a Death Eater. She killed her parents. She tortured me and made it so I couldn't tell anyone. Then when we were back at school she made you hate me while she made you want her. Please believe me, please," she begged.

Harry was now looking at his best friend, his girlfriend, his lover, his confidant. She was standing next to the Dark Lord, whose arm was draped around her shoulder like an overprotective father.

"You did all that?" he asked, his eyes tearing up.

"And more," she acknowledged, smiling sweetly as she moved from the embrace of the Dark Lord to Harry, putting her arms around his neck. Ginny tried to pull her away, but was forcefully moved back from a spell by Draco, who had joined the small undisturbed group.

"What do you mean 'and more'?" he asked, his voice cold as his heart shattered as he tried to back away from his girlfriend.

Hermione looked back, and at a nod from her master she answered. "I gave all the horcruxes to My Lord. The ones we destroyed were all fakes that Professor Davis created with a little bit of help, though it turns out that Nagini was never one anyway so even if I hadn't the Dark Lord would still reign. I made love with you last night, making it the best night of your life despite the fact that I faked it, because of what it would do to you today. After all, you have no chance of even wishing to compare to Malfoy in that compartment. Oh, and I killed Ron." She added the last sentance, almost as an afterthought.

"You slept with Malfoy....." his voice was more than dejected, it was pure sadness and emotional pain, especially as he saw the look of smug superiority on Malfoy's face out of the corner of his eye.

"Mmmmmhmmmm, have been since summer. But it's interesting that that's what you took from that, not the fact that I cast the killing curse on your best friend because he went to join my master but still tried to protect you by not mentioning the horcruxes."

"Ron didn't betray me?" Now there was a small amount of hope.

"Oh, no. Ron definately betrayed you, after all he went there of his own free will and took the Mark, he just seemed to think that he knew better than the Dark Lord."

Ginny, who had had a smug look on her face before this conversation turned sour at the news that he had slept with the traitorous bitch, and what's more that he had enjoyed it. But when she admitted to the death of her brother she flew at the woman shrieking like a banshee, once again gaining looks from those still alive and fighting.

She was dead before she even made it two steps, falling to the ground with a loud thud as her head cracked against the overgrown stone walkway, her blood and small portions of brain matter slipping from the opening in the bone. Not a moment later her remaining brothers were crouching at her side, throwing murderous looks to Hermione and her master. Harry was crumpled into a ball on the ground, sobbing to his hearts content. No less than ten minutes ago he had been infused with Ginny's love and the knowledge that he could kill Voldemort. He should have done it at that moment, rather than listen to her. Now he was a broken shell.

This time when the Dark Lord stepped forward to the saviour of the wizarding word and cast the killing curse, there was no rebound. There was no scar. There was no blood protection. There was only death. The force of the blow spread him out on his back.

Still having not gotten close enough to help, Lupin let out a howl that came from his gut and lasted a full minute and a half before he collapsed to the ground in grief. In the ensuing silence, the Dark Lord made a proclamation. "Harry Potter is dead. Kill the rest. Take no prisoners." With that he spelled his property so none could apparate away as his followers took his words to heart. In his position with the love of his life next to him, Lupin's head was twisted so the neck broke with a loud pop, his corpse slumping onto the purple haired auror next to him. Tonks fired the killing curse back to the perpetrator, but as she had never used an unforgivable before there was not enough force behind the spell. Her target took a couple of steps back upon the impact. When she had seen that it didn't work, the Death Eater Imperiused Tonks to take her own life with a jagged rock that was nearby by plunging it into her own heart.

The Weasley men, fueled on by the death of their sister decided that if they were going to die, they would take as many Death Eaters with them as possible. Starting with Hermione. She was faster than them though and able to dodge between all of the unforgivable curses and people surrounding her. Twice they hit other Death Eaters as she weaved around the garden. When the second of the two fell their mask came off, revealing none other than Pansy Parkinson.

She came within an inch of the killing curse, set off by George who was now the only Weasley of his generation still alive. When she turned around to make that count down to zero, she was beaten to the punch by Snape. She gaped at him, her mouth resembling that of a fish. He nodded to her and moved onto his next victim.

Soon the place was filled with dead bodies. She looked around and saw that the only people still standing were in Death Eater garb with the exceptions of herself and Severus Snape. On previous orders the more advanced Death Eaters started spelling the corpses into Inferi and soon there was an army of the Light's dead, Harry Potter at the forefront of the group.

"Now to the Ministry!" called out the most powerful wizard in Britain undoing the anti appariation wards he had so recently put up.
