Detention

Chapter 5: Detention

Harry and Draco were both dismissed after this to attend the rest of their classes, which Professor Dumbledore told them they would greatly need, especially this close to exams. The boys did their best to avoid each other for the remainder of the day, because they knew they would have to be attending detention together after classes, and that they did.

They both arrived outside the Potions class room as instructed by their Headmaster, not a word of greeting, they just stood there awkwardly waiting for the door to open.

Finally Snape opened the door and sneered at the two mischievous boys standing in front of him. “Mr. Potter, Mr. Malfoy you are here for detention I presume?”

His dark voice more intense than usual.

"Yes” the two replied in unison, but said nothing more.

"Right, follow me” He said without even giving them a hint to where they where going or what they were doing in their one months detention.

Snape took them to a remote part of the castle down in the dungeons. Not even Draco seemed to know exactly where they where. Suddenly they stopped, almost bumping into Snape as they did. They took a couple of steps back and gazed at the rather large and aged door. Snape took out an aged silvery key that seemed to match the lock perfectly with a snake curving along the handle just like the snake curving along the lock. The Potions Master led the boys into the dark room where you couldn't see anything at all except darkness and held his wand up into the air and said “Lumos”. Light emanated from the wand and now Harry and Draco could see that the room was filled with potion bottles, cauldrons, books, parchment and other little gadgets and things they didn't know what they where.

“I've been meaning to clean this room up for years.” Snape said and directed his dark eyes towards the two students. “But I guess that's your job now isn't it?” he said rhetorically with a little bit of a smile playing on his lips.

“You will organize all of these things into sort, function and it must be alphabetical. You will also clean every single thing in here as it is dusty and there may be crawling things along the floor for all I know” the Professor said as the light from his wand died out. Draco and Harry looked shocked at this last part, their eyes turned huge.

“And I suggest you do this communicating with each other, because how else are you going to have an impeccable cataloging system, if you don't put your tiny little heads together to do it?” As he turned to leave the room, all you could see was his dark silhouette in the back-light of the brighter corridor.

“Won't you be staying here to supervise us?” Draco asked Professor Snape, partly panicking and partly hoping he'd have a chance to escape the whole detention part and leave it to Harry.

“I have far better things to do than babysit a couple of ill-behaved brats, so I'll leave it up to you. And if you're planning on skipping detention, don't hold your breath, because I've charmed this door and once it's been closed it will not be opened until detention is over for the evening.”

Damn, Draco thought, there goes his chance to escape.

“And what about a light, there's no light in here?” Harry asked before Snape could close the door. “You have your wands and hands, find one.” he merely said then closed the door and the lock turned automatically. Draco ran over to feel if indeed the door was locked, which he found to his great dismay that it was.

“Great” Draco said “locked in together in a filthy room with Merlin knows what crawling about on the floor. ” Sarcasm more than evident in his voice. This day didn't turn out so good after all he thought and pouted his lips in sadness.

“Lumos” Harry said and the room lit up a little with the light from his wand.

“I guess there's nothing we can do about it now, we're stuck, so I think we should concentrate on finding a light, I can't stand this darkness and we can't be holding up our wands while we deal with this room.” Harry's voice sounded tired, but determined.

“Fine. Let's find a candle then.” Draco said and the boys started to search in silence.
