A/N: Hello! First let me say I am so SORRY for making you wait so long! I ended up having a very stressful winter break and I experienced some writers block because of it. The chapters however should be coming faster now though. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with me!
Chapter 4 I don’t care!
Draco Malfoy wanted to punch someone in the throat. His life had taken a wrong turn somewhere in the last few days and he was not sure how to back up and take the correct road again. He looked in the mirror in his bathroom and ground his teeth together, this was not happening! He reached up and touched it, it was curly! He wanted to vomit all over the person who had done this to him! He had said a little, the witch had said “I will take care of you baby, when you get through you will look better than you ever have” and now he looked like, like, like….He couldn’t even think of the word.
He sighed again; this would pass over though this could be fixed. He heard a knock on his bed room door and left the bathroom for his room. He picked up a black t-shirt and said enter.
Narcissa Malfoy glided into his room and gracefully took a seat on the small couch located by one of the full length windows. “Darling you are looking quite handsome t his morning.” She said with a small smile.
Draco’s eyes narrowed into slits. He could do this, calm he thought. I can get through this.
“And your new look is lovely dear” His mother started but that was it. He had had it! He didn’t look handsome and it was not HIS new look.
“That is it!” he exclaimed. “I do not look LOVELY! I look ridiculous! Can you believe she did this to me? I look like…like….like….”
His mother delicately raised and eyebrow as her son struggled for words. She decided to help him along, “You look lovely dear, but that is not why I am here. Your father and I wish to speak with you about the new law and next school year. Lucius wants to see you in the study in one hour.” With that she stood up and walked to the door. As she walked out she said over he shoulder, “And I must say I love the way it curls.”
Narcissa Malfoy giggled at the roar from her son that could be heard as she walked down the hall towards her husbands study.
The ministry had finally decided that it was going to pass a marriage law. All muggle-born and half blood witches and wizards were to me matched with pureblood witches and wizards. In theory this was a good idea. After the war the wizarding population had decreased drastically in numbers and more and more squibs were being born into pureblood families. The Ministry of Magic thinks that by introducing new blood into the pureblood families it would stop squibs from being born so frequently.
The idea, while interesting was stirring some problems. Many or the arranged marriages netween pureblood families had been broken and many of the purebloods were trying to buy spouses for their children. Narcissa did not like the idea of a woman marrying her son only for money. The idea of that made her frown.
While her family was not known as being fond of anyone but purebloods she didn’t want to try and buy happiness. After the war her family had suffered enough unhappiness and stress as it was. Adding another member was going to be hard enough and the idea that the girl would only be with them for money was sickening.
As she reached the door of her husbands study she paused and smiled softly. Lucius Malfoy was hunched over his desk deep in thought. His hair was mussed up because of all the times he had run his fingers through it. He furrowed his brow and Narcissa became instantly curious as to what he was doing.
“Darling” she said as she entered the room “what are you up to?” She grinned as he jumped and tried to hide his source of distraction under some papers on his desk.
“Nothing, I was just-“he began.
Narcissa stood patiently waiting for him to create an answer to her question. She now knew what he was up to. It was supposed to be a secret, be she had discovered it little secret months ago. When the war had ended the ministry had made the former followers of the Dark Lord take a series of classes to help educate them about muggles. The ministry figured that if they were truly reformed they could pass the classes and walk away with some new knowledge about the group of people they had tried to erase from earth. During these lessons Lucius had discovered he enjoyed muggle fiction. That had lead to muggle crossword puzzles.
When he was alone in his office would attempt to complete the puzzles. He did not think anyone knew of course but Narcissa did because she was the one to find the puzzles in the first place.
“I did not mean to startle you. I know you were hard at work but Draco will be here in an hour. I hope that he plans of cooperating with this, I would like him to have some say in his choice of bride.” She said as she sat in the chair across from her husband.
“Of course he will not cooperate. He is a spoiled brat and will leave the choice solely to us. He does not realize that this is as important as it is. This meeting with him will not last more than ten minutes.”
Narcissa raised her eyebrow. “Is that a wager? I think that Draco does know the gravity of this situation. I bet you 1000 galleons that he has already thought about this and is very ready for this conversation.”
Lucius snorted, “When I win you will owe me 1000 galleons and I shall relish taking it from you.”
Narcissa smiled deviously. She began to speak but her sons entrance stopped their conversation.
“Draco, “ Lucius said his eyes growing round, “What have you done to your hair? Its….curly” he said the distasteful word leaving a foul taste in his mouth.
Draco glared, “I don’t want to talk about it. I am going to have it fixed today.”
He sat in the chair next to his mother, “What did you and mother wish to talk to me about.”
“We simply wanted to begin discussing you ideas for you future bride.” Lucius began but was cut off.
“I don’t care.” Said Draco missing the smirk his father shot his mother, “You choose. As long as I don’t end up with someone like Granger I don’t care. I am going to Blaise’s for the weekend I need to get my hair fixed.” With that Draco walked out.
Lucius turned to his wife in time to see her mouth hanging open in shock. “That’s 1000 galleons my dear.”
“I am going to go begin a list of what I am looking for in HIS future wife. “She said as she stood up to walk out of the room, “You should do the same. I shall be back. Oh, “Narcissa stopped at the door, “As I was saying earlier you have all the money, so in reality you owe yourself 1000 galleons.”
