Chapter 5

Hey Everyone! I`m really excited about this chapter so I would love to hear from readers to see what they think. As always thank you to everyone who has reviewed already! Loved the advice!

-------------------------------------

Daylight slowly leaked through Hermione’s window, waking her. Suddenly, she groaned and covered her face with the pillow. She really didn’t want to face the day. It had been two days since the little incident with Draco. Two days! And the thought of it still sent shivers down her spine! It shouldn’t have affected her this much! She shouldn’t be thinking about it this much! Thinking about the way it felt to have his flush against her, his eyes, how focused and intense they were as he looked at her. She shouldn’t think about what would have happened is Snape didn’t come in. She shouldn’t be this aroused from a small kiss on the neck! Gods but she was. When his lips touched her it was like an electric shock. Her senses came alive and she could feel him so much more, the smell of him became that much more intense. The need to urge him on and run her hands up and down him. She shouldn’t feel like this!

She had done a fairly good job of avoiding him. It had been easy enough, during their lessons with Snape she didn’t say anything to him that wasn’t lesson related, and even then she didn’t even look in his general direction. Other than that she had had no reason to see him. She taught her class, which she found she loved. It was wonderful to teach and she loved every minute of it. She was really looking forward to teaching her class once a week throughout the year. She felt like she could get closer to them and she loved the idea of filling their heads with the knowledge she craved at that age. But today, today was different. Today was the day she was going to teach with Draco. They would be meeting with Snape an hour early so he could tell them what they would be teaching the children and they could plan out the lesson together. Normally this wouldn’t be required, when you taught alone you did what you want, when you thought it was appropriate. This would be slightly different. She was fairly sure they both had different teaching strategies and combining them could cause problems.

“I don’t want to get out of bed. I don’t want to teach the stupid class....” she grumbled as she once again squished the pillow over her head and rolled over.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Draco, on the other hand didn’t sleep a wink. He was staring at the ceiling telling himself how much of an idiot he was all night. And no matter how many times he told himself, there were so many insults left in his mind for the dumbass who kissed the girl on the neck the first day of his apprenticeship.

“Way to be subtle you fuck up”

“You. Fucking. Idiot.”

“What the fuck were you thinking?!”

“You fucking dumbass! Why?!?!?”

He couldn’t stop it. He kept asking himself what the fuck was he thinking when he kissed her neck. The answer was plain and simple. He wasn’t thinking. It was just such a powerful need. He needed to kiss her, to touch her. It was the combination of her soft body against him, pinned underneath him. Her beautiful amber eyes looking up at him, her erratic breaths, the sight of her hair fanned out on the floor, the smell of her and the adrenaline pumping through him after that explosion. He leaned in and had to do it.

He had fucked up so huge. She was being kind to him, they had laughed together. He was fairly sure that in a few weeks they could have even called it a friendship. But it was too late, he fucked up. Her expressions would be guarded from now on. She had given him a chance. Something no one had ever given him, and he ruined it within a twenty four hour period.

She had avoided him for two days now, he was miserable. She wouldn’t even look at him. He had wandered the castle during all his free time the past few days in hopes of just seeing her. Hoping for a chance to apologise. His only distraction had been his first years, it had terrified Draco. They had all stared at him like he was about to turn bright green and tail. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t his father, that he never took the dark mark, he was a Malfoy, and Malfoys were scary. That was all there was to it. He had tried his hardest to be funny and kind to all his students, but it was hard for him. He had managed to stay out of the spotlight for three years for this exact reason. Once his last name was said there usually wasn’t hope to recover and continue on with a real relationship of any sort, business or romantic. So he gave up three years ago. But these were children who only knew a little about his name. So he worked damn hard to make sure they liked him and would listen and by the end of the lesson, he had succeeded, a little. They laughed at his jokes, sort of. They weren’t afraid to ask questions, kind of.

Whatever, that’s better than he expected. But today he was going to teach with her. They were going to meet up and plan, together. She would have to talk to him; maybe he could slip in an apology or something.
Draco continued to stare at the ceiling and count down the minutes until he could crawl out of bed and stop pretending he could sleep.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

They both met at the door awkwardly, pausing, neither one willing to take that first step into the classroom. Draco was staring straight at her, his silver eyes piercing her. Hermione just looked at the ground, she missed the flash of sadness that crossed his face until he schooled it into an emotionless mask. He quietly sighed and opened the door for her. She hesitated, looking into his eyes, and then quickly walked through the door.
Snape greeted them with a single arched eyebrow and waited them to sit.

“Right. Today you will be teaching the students to brew a very powerful sleeping potion. They should be able to make it strong enough to cause the drinker to sleep for a month. I assume you are both competent enough to be able to test the strength of the potions?”

They both nodded. “Very well, I will not be observing this lesson, good luck.” He turned abruptly and left them to their silence.

“Right... Well I guess we should get started? Well, I know how I would teach this... Want to tell me how you would and we can compare ideas?” Draco said tentatively.

“I usually explain the importance of the potion and wait ten minutes for everyone to gather and prepare before I go around and check every ones ingredients to make sure their perfect then let them get to it and observe carefully.” She replied in a monotone voice.

“Alright, well I like to just let them get to it and ask them questions about it while prepping.” He paused “Then I like to poke and scare them while their trying to brew. Either that or ask them questions with no answer and glare at them in a Snape like fashion while they squirm.”

That did it. Hermione cracked. She laughed and punched him in the arm.

“Don’t be a jerk!” she said with a smile. Draco was over the moon, he decided not to push it and avoid the neck topic. She was talking to him, he’d enjoy it while it lasted.

“I like your idea of questions instead of just explaining it to them. We can go with that, and the whole questions with no answer is just hilarious.”

“I figure it’s no fun if you can’t mess with them a bit. God knows Snape did.” He said with a grin.

She giggled. “This shouldn’t be too bad then. Want to set up so we can have a good final example for them?”

“Sounds good.”

They made quick work of the potion, both of them brilliant and knowing all the short cuts of the potion. He watched Hermione begin to bottle the potion, her hair covering her face, and once again Draco reacted without thinking. He reached out and tucked the hair behind her face and ran his hand down her cheek. Hermione stiffened. Draco froze his hand still on her cheek. She turned her head to look at him, Draco’s eyes a pool of fire and Hermione’s darkened.

The door burst in and students filed in. They both jumped back and straightened. The students greeted them excitedly. Giddy to have new teachers, hopefully ones less terrifying as Professor Snape.

“Good morning class. My name is Professor Granger and this is Professor Malfoy.” The entire class went dead silent. They knew those names. Everyone knew those names, and they were their teachers. Kids were gobsmacked.

“There is a list of the needed ingredients on your table and the potion you should be doing. Get to it!” Draco barked.

Both standing close to one another still. Draco turned to walk past her and make his way through the class inspecting. Brushing close to Hermione he heard her breath hitch. He stopped and turned towards her, their bodies only an inch apart he stared into her eyes and tried to convey that they needed to talk about this later. Hermione looked from his eyes to his lips and blushed furiously, thinking of how they would feel all over her body. She quickly walked away and down the aisles observing and talking to students. Draco’s eyes widened. Did she want him too? Was she as confused as he was?

“Class,” Draco asked, “What would the purpose of a sleeping potion this strong be?” never taking his eyes off Hermione he pointed to one of the students.

“I suppose it would be used in cases with severe health problems... It would slow down a disease because it slows down everything about the body; it’s what allows the body to sleep for that long a period of time. It’s a way to buy time to fight or kill the sickness.”

“Excellent answer, twenty points to Hufflepuff.”

“Sir, I’m in Ravenclaw.”

“And I said twenty points to Hufflepuff.”

He heard Hermione snort from the back of the class and try to stop from laughing. She turned to look at him, and once again her face went bright red. He grinned again. He was almost enjoying this, if it weren’t for the fact that he kept fucking up what could be so good. He made his rounds through the room never taking his eyes off of her as she continued to avoid eye contact but managed to step into things and maintain the bright blush on her face. She could feel his eyes on her, it was so intense and passionate she had no idea what to do. It made her nervous. She kept walking into things and that made her feel even sillier.

“Professor, why do you keep staring at Professor Granger?”

“I’m waiting for her to spontaneously combust.” Draco said distractedly.

The lesson managed to stay like this until the very last student filed out. Draco watched them leave and shut the door when the last student left. Hermione shivered as she heard the lock click and gasped when she saw Draco turn around and head right for her. Hermione pretended not to notice and headed for a shelf to put things away. She was reaching up to put a vial on a high shelf when she felt two hands on her waist and felt his breath as he whispered in her ear.

“Hermione.”

She shivered and turned around. As soon as she did she was slammed into the shelf, Draco’s lips on hers, and his hands in her hair. Her eyes widened and quickly shut as she moaned. He bit her lip and she gasped, he slid his tongue into her mouth and moaned. Her hands on his chest began the run all over him until she grabbed his jacket to pull her closer. Their tongues duelling, one hand untangled from her hair and ran down her body to her waist and pulled her closer. He broke away gasping and immediately began to kiss up and down her neck pulling the rest of her body closer to her. Her hands ran up to his neck and into his hair gripping hard and pulling. They needed to get closer. Draco bit the small crook in her neck and it snapped Hermione back. It was too fast. Too much. She couldn’t do it. She could feel his arousal as he kissed his way back up to her chin. Gods she had never gotten this aroused from just a kiss. It was too much. Too much, too fast.

“No.” She gasped and pushed him away.

Draco took a step back and looked incredibly surprised. A wave of hurt flashed across his face. Hermione did the only thing she could think of. She ran. She could hear Draco calling after her. His voice echoing down the halls, his footsteps following as tears streamed down her face.
