When I see your smile,
Tears roll down my face.
I can't replace.
And now that I'm strong, I have figured out,
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul.
And I know I'll find deep inside me,
I can be the one.

I will never let you fall. (let you fall.)
I'll stand up with you forever.
I'll be there for you through it all. (through it all.)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven.

Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

~
Draco swept low over the treetops, his broom hovering silently. Merlin how he loved this thing. It was sleek, a racing broom, and faster than anything available on the open market. This beauty was custom, the only other person to have one, was Lord Potter.

However, Draco was not currently involved in his beloved quidditch game. He was watching the searchers draw closer to his wards. There were too many to fight off now. Cain, Saya and himself had been picking them off as they could, but that did no good now. His only option was to return home and gather everyone, then flee to safety.

It had been two weeks since Hermione Granger had been cornered in the woods. He’d known it was only a matter of time before they came. Still, he had hoped for a bit more.

Angling his body to the left, he cut the broom in the desired direction and sped off. He dipped low towards Cain’s sprinting form, “Get back to the house, get everyone out. Rally at point seven!”. His order reached the lycan’s ears even as he shot upward through the clouds.

Hermione jolted in her seat as Draco stormed through the door, her wand was at the ready. “Maddy!” he barked, “We have to go. Now. Rally point seven.”

The house elf nodded and popped out of sight.

Hermione looked at him in alarm, “Draco? What’s the matter? What’s going on?”

He held out his hand and Maddy reappeared, the aqua vial in her hand. “Forgive me Hermione” he was saying, “There is no other time, no other way. We have less than an hour before they arrive here. Our time is up.”

She held her hands up, “Wait, what?”

He uncapped the vial with his teeth, “I can’t wait for you to heal.”

He grasped her, forcing her to drink, all the while barking orders.

Hermione swallowed the liquid, tasting honeysuckle on her tongue. It wasn’t bad at all. She blinked up at Draco when he pulled her through the door and into the small yard.

“Accio windthrift”.

A sleek broom appeared before them and he straddled it, grabbing her and pulling her down before him. Tossing a cloak at her after he did so.

“Put that on” he commanded. Hermione struggled to pull the large garment on. He had already donned one. Looking back at the cottage he pointed his wand, “Incendio!”

The cottage trembled and then belched fire before it was consumed by flame. Hermione gasped, “Maddy! All of your things! Your books!” she shouted.

He slid his arms under hers, forcing her back against his chest as he gripped the broom tightly, “Safe and away with Maddy” he told her. Then they swung up towards the moon at a sickening pace.

Draco leaned them low over the broom and her muscles protested. A moment later she realized that it had nothing to do with the riding stance. She felt the cruciatus take hold. She shrieked at the pain, at the betrayal. Draco merely cast a silencing charm and sped off into the night.

The elixir would take hours to heal her. Painful hours he knew. As her tormented nerves and muscles replayed and released every pain. He merely held her tighter and dashed past the clouds. Every now and again, a hot tear spattered on his glove, freezing. He was aware of each one, since his face was tucked beside hers. Her body contorted against his and he held her safe in the circle of his arms.

Draco landed before the warded entrance to the cave. Shrinking his broom down, he tucked it away and gathered his trembling companion in his arms. He ducked under the low stone ceiling and muttered the spell for light as he moved further back into the rocky confines.

When the cave dead ended, he reached out his hand and said softly, “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good”. The light hearted words that Lord Potter had insisted on made him smile briefly. Then the rock face faded away to allow him entrance to the living quarters hidden within.

Cain and Saya were already there, as well as Maddy. A fire roared in the heath of every room, the magical flames creating warmth but no smoke. Saya and Cain sat at the table before the bubbling cauldron on the stove. Bowls of untouched stew sat before them.

“Eat” he bade them, “I’m not sure how long this will take.”
The he turned and wound his way around the stone corridors to the master chamber.

He laid Hermione on the large bed pulling the cloak from her convulsing form. Her eyes met his briefly and he was stung by the pain and betrayal he read there. This was not how he had wanted it to be.

He flung his own cloak to the floor and climbed onto the bed beside her. “I know it hurts” he murmured in her ear. Her mouth opened on silent screams and she flopped painfully against the bed. Her thrashing violent. Draco pulled her tight against his body, allowing her flip to face him and then anchoring her in place.

One long leg thrown over both of hers, his arms banded tightly around her. She panted and shivered, tears pouring from her eyes. Draco caught her arms and forced them around his body. “I know it hurts” he said again, “I’m sorry, take it out on me.”

Hermione barely registered his words as more pain rolled over her and her nails bit into his back. He nudged her face into the crook of his neck and held her as she slowly recovered.
