And the Players Are...
The next week seemed to drag by for James as he waited to find out the results from the auditions. He secretly hoped that he got the part, though he always groaned about it with Sirius, and his other friends. More so he hoped he was Romeo and Lily was Juliet. It would make her have to spend more time with him, and she would see exactly how he was in real life.
Lily sat jiggling her foot at breakfast the day the cast list would be posted. She crammed toast down her throat, and chased it with juice, when she saw Professor Burbage get up from the table, and she rose from her seat, though she wasn’t the only one. A whole swarm of people got up from their seats and walked quickly down the hall to the muggle studies teachers’ office.
James followed out with the marauders, and they bumped into Lily. “Hope you get the part,” James said lightly to Lily.
“Thanks you too,” Lily said without thinking. She was too nervous to come back with a mean comment. When she realized what she had said though she cursed herself.
When they made it to the professors door, it was crowded beyond belief, students were pushing one another to get closer, and some walked away disappointed. “All the seventh years got the good parts,” Lily heard a younger girl say as she stomped off.
Sirius pushed his way through, and grabbed the paper of the wall and ignored the protests. “Let me just read it off, it will be faster,” he said over the peoples voices. Everyone quieted down and he cleared his voice and began to read.
“Lady Capulet: Joan Thicknee, Capulet: Jason Ingel, Lady Montague: Penelope Grindal ,Montague: Leonard Barney, Friar Lawrence: Remus Lupin…hey good job Moony!” He called before continuing, “Nurse: Phoebe Janders, Mercuito: Jackson Lane, Paris: Kyle Peters, Tybalt: Ryan Forest, and most importantly, Juliet: Lily Evans understudy Bridget Jones” he said and winked at Lily, who just rolled her eyes at him. “And of course Romeo: Sirius Black, understudy James Potter.”
He then dropped the paper on the ground and walked out of the group of people who were fighting over it to see all the other parts.
Lily groaned and began to walk off, there was no way she was going to do this with Sirius Black, she was going to just give the part to Bridget.
“Damn it,” James muttered walking off as well, not bothering to compliment Sirius on the part. He would make up the excuse later for walking off that he had forgotten something in his room for class.
“Hey where did everyone go?” Sirius asked with a cocky grin on his face.
“James muttered something about forgetting a book, and Lily…just left,” Peter said with a small smile.
“Alright then, I will just have to catch up with the both of them later."

Lily was mad, very mad. She didn’t want to give up the part since she worked so hard practicing for it, but she did not want to do it with Sirius Black either. It involved kissing him, and who in the world knew where his mouth had been.
“You should be happy you got the part!” Amy said sourly as she dropped down in the seat next to Lily.
“I am but I am not happy who is Romeo,” she said angrily. “Hell I would have preferred Potter over Black.”
“Well James is his understudy, maybe he will get sick or something,” Bridget offered, then backed off when Lily glared daggers at her.
“He would not pass up kissing girl if his life depended on it. He would come on stage if he was dying just to kiss me,” Lily replied.
“Well just think about it, it is two, maybe three short kisses on stage, you don’t have to practice them that often, and then it will be over with,” Phoebe said trying to make her happy.
“Your right,” Lily finally conceded a few seconds later and that was the end of the conversation.

“Where have you been mate?” Sirius asked James when he finally found him at dinner that night.
“Busy with school work, planning some Quidditch plays,” James lied as he took a seat next to his friend.
“I never got to say congratulations on your part,” he said with a genuine smile.
“I only get to play it if you get sick, or die,” James said unamused as he grabbed some roast beef.
“Maybe I will let you stand in for me, when it comes to kissing Evans,” Sirius teased nudging his friend lightly. “Since I get to kiss her a lot in the next month.”
“Shove off Sirius,” James said getting up from the table and walking out, leaving the food on his plate.
“Oi! Prongs! I was only teasing!” Sirius called after him, but James did not turn around.
“What’s his problem?” Sirius asked Remus turning back around.
“I think he really wanted to get the part,” Remus said quietly, “especially with Lily being Juliet.”
“Oh…oh well,” Sirius said before taking a bite of his sandwich. He really did care about James, but it was his time to shine.

Lily waited patiently for James, she was starting to get used to the fact that her and James needed to work together in order to do their job right. “Ready?” She asked a bit sourly as James came around the corner.
“When you are,” James said, his voice just as bitter before following her down the hall.
“Can I ask you a favor?” Lily finally dared. She had been thinking about this for most of the day, and figured that James maybe able to help, even though she was not happy about asking.
“Sure what is it?” He asked genuinely curious.
“Tell Sirius that we are just acting in a play. If he tries anything stupid, I will not hesitate to hex his face off,” she replied.
“No problem,” James said laughing a bit. He was just upset about as Lily was about the situation.
“Thank you,” Lily said quietly as they continued down the hall. They did not talk much more than that, and at one their shift was over.
