Chapter 4
Broken Wings
Chapter 4
Hermione sighed tiredly as she sat in front of the fireplace at 12 Grimmwauld Place. Tonight had been a very long and detailed Order meeting. Voldemort was growing stronger by the day, but so was Harry and the Order.
“Hermione, something wrong?” Severus asked as he sat next to her.
“Well kind of,” Hermione said.
“Care to talk about it?” he questioned.
Before she could stop herself, she told him everything about her and Luke, minus the fact about who his father was. All the Professors at Hogwarts knew the truth about who and what Hermione was.
Over the last two years, she had found a confidant in Severus. He was quite familiar with the Jedi and the war with the Empire. His own father was once a Jedi Knight as well, as was Severus. Severus was also Hermione’s lightsaber sparring partner.
“When was the last time you spoke to him Hermione?” he inquired.
“When he first reached Hoth. That was four months ago. I know he said I could call him whenever I needed to hear his voice, but I don’t want to interrupt him,” she sighed.
“There something else, tell me,” he insisted.
“I’ve been having dreams Severus. I keep seeing Luke hurt. I can feel his pain. I see him at a city in the clouds. I then see him dueling with Vader. It’s after the duel I see him in pain. I never see all of the duel, just the beginning and the aftermath,” she explained.
As she began crying, Severus just pulled her into his arms. He closed his eyes and called on the Force. He was shown what haunted his friend’s nightmares.
“Hermione, I think the Force is sending you a vision,” he said.
“A vision? I thought you had to be a Knight to receive those?” she asked.
“No. You’re being given this because of your connection to Luke,” he answered.
“Should I tell him?” she questioned.
“I can’t answer that. If you feel it could help him, then yes. If you feel it will cause him to become unfocused, I’d advise you not to. From what you’ve told me, he’s at a critical stage on his path to becoming a Jedi. His training is incomplete,” he advised.
“Then I won’t tell him. I don’t want to worry him,” she said sadly.
“You should get some sleep. Do you want a dreamless draught?” he suggested.
“Please,” she nodded.

Luke sat in the cockpit of his X-Wing. He was currently on his way to the Dagobah system just as Obi-Wan had instructed. After a few minutes of deliberation, he pulled out his commlink.
“Luke?”
“Hello Hermione,” he smiled.
“Oh Luke. I’ve been so worried about you. I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to contact you, but didn‘t want to interrupt you. Are you alright?” she gushed.
“You know you could have called me. I’m fine. I have some bad news though. The Empire found us and attacked,” he started to say.
“I know my parents are dead. I felt it. That’s why I’ve been so worried about you. At least they died fighting for peace and they are now one with the Force,” she replied.
“How are you? Are you alright?” he questioned.
“I’m fine. I just miss you so much. Where are you?” she said.
Luke told her about what happened on Hoth. How he was attacked by a Wapa. He also told her how he saw Obi-Wan and that Obi-Wan instructed him to find Yoda on Dagobah.
“Master Yoda? I thought he was dead,” she gasped.
“Apparently not, otherwise Ben wouldn’t be sending me there to finish my training,” he added.
“Luke, things are getting bad here. Everyday Voldemort is growing stronger. He’s also becoming increasingly bolder in his attacks. We’re all worried,” she sighed.
“Hermione, listen to me. You need to stay focused. You are strong and brilliant. Use the Force to help guide you and the Order. Like I was meant to join the Rebellion, you were meant to help against Voldemort,” he assured her.
“I know. We are just unsure of how to deal with this,” she said.
“I understand love. Just be strong. Everything will work out as it’s meant to,” he replied.
“You’re right. I love you Luke,” she smiled.
“And I love you Hermione. I’ll try to contact you again soon,” he promised.
“Okay. Be careful and good luck with your training,” she nodded.
Luke ended the transmission and sighed heavily. When he had heard about Gareth and Lyraitha, he had wanted nothing more than to rush to Hermione’s side. He had been able to sense that she felt her parent’s death.
‘I miss her and want to be with her. At the same time, we both have obligations to fulfill,’ he thought.
A series of beeps and warbles interrupted his thoughts. He glanced at the screen to read what Artoo had said. “I’m sure Hermione will be fine. Yes I hope we’ll see her again soon,” Luke replied.

Voldemort sat on his throne situated on a raised dais. He smiled down at the scene below him. His Death Eaters engaged in the revel. Things were progressing nicely. He looked over as someone approached and knelt before him.
“Aahh. Welcome Severus,” Voldemort smiled.
“I wish I could stay and enjoy the festivities my Lord,” Severus said.
“I understand. What news do you have?” Voldemort asked.
“No new news. Whatever the old fool is planning, he’s keeping tight lipped about it,” Severus answered.
“I see. Now, what is this I hear about the mudblood leaving for three months back in January?” Voldemort demanded.
“Albus told us she had taken some personal time. Where she went or what she did, no one seems to know but her,” Severus stated, clamping down oh his fears.
“There is something different about her. I feel she is a threat to me. An even bigger threat than Potter,” Voldemort growled.
“She’s a mudblood my Lord. She’s no threat to anyone,” Severus argued, his heart pounding. ‘Voldemort either knows or suspects. I need to tell Albus and Hermione,’ he thought.
“Hmmm, perhaps. Go my servant. If you hear anything, you report it immediately,” Voldemort ordered.
Severus bowed and left. Once he was gone, Voldemort called for Wormtail. “Yes my Lord?” Wormtail bowed.
“I have a mission for you. I want you to trail the mudblood friend of Potters. Her name is Hermione Granger,” Voldemort instructed.
“Yes my Lord. What am I looking for?” Wormtail asked.
“Anything unusual. There is something about her that doesn’t add up. No mudblood is that powerful magically. Not even Potter’s mudblood mother was that powerful,” Voldemort elaborated.
“It shall be down my Lord,” Wormtail bowed again.
As Wormtail retreated, Voldemort smiled evilly. ‘Soon I will discover your secret mudblood,’ he thought as he returned to watching the revel.
