What would you do if you had to die?
Would you live life now?

Would you reach your goals?
Now I must tell you
You’re dying

Chapter Five
Dying of Curiosity

Nobody was shocked or surprised that the stranger would be put in Slytherin, hell they would’ve been shocked if he hadn’t been. With the way that he talked and moved it basically screamed Slytherin or rather “Dark Wizard”; don’t get me wrong, not all those in Slytherin are Dark but they do have appearances to keep. No, if anything they were more surprised that Luna Lovegood had a Slytherin bone in her body and that she would be with this stranger; after all she was a friend of the Great Savoir of the Wizarding World, Harry Potter.

As the Headmaster went to speak again he held the attention of all those present in the Great Hall, his normally cheery Grandfatherly voice was hard as stone. “Now I believe that you should keep up your end of the bargain. You said that you would reveal who you are as soon as you were properly sorted, now I must ask for the safety of my students that you reveal who you are or I will have to ask you to leave.”

A deep chuckle came from the person before he nodded and walked back to Luna, he needed her comforting presence now more then ever. The room seemed to get a bit colder at that moment though nobody knew how nervous the cloaked figure was inside as he stood with that of the highest confidence. Slowly, he raised his steady hand to his hood and pulled it back, revealing a face that nobody, not even the Headmaster was expecting.

Harry just smirked at all the confused faces before him; even the Slytherins were showing their shock. What surprised him however was that the Head of Slytherin house showed no outward surprise though you could tell through his midnight eyes that he was just as shocked as the rest of the school. Surprisingly it wasn’t any of the normal teachers or any of the students that broke the silence but that of the newest addition to the staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Eric Tenshia.

With a loud laugh he locked eyes with those of Harry before he doubled over in a laughing fit, making some students and teachers look at him as if he was mad. Once his laughing subsided, however he pulled a bag from inside his cloak and tossed it to Harry who easily caught it, a smirk in place.

“Damn it, I hate it when you’re right… but when you’re right, you’re right. Gods and here I thought that SOMEONE would have expected your change or at lest have the decency not to act like you're Voldemort himself.” With that last sentence almost all those present flinched or turned pale except for headmaster Dumbledore, Harry and Luna.

When he saw everyone flinch at the mention of Voldemort’s name, Harry just rolled his eyes at their weakness. He nodded to Eric with his smirk still in place before placing the bag inside his silk robes, normally he would not accept it but he did have a huge fight on this one and was going to enjoy beating Eric at something.

“Luna and I will be going to our room until everything is straitened out, as we discussed before leaving. I trust that you remember what I told you to do in order to come in contact with me?” Harry’s voice seemed to knock some sense into some of the students gathered as well as some teachers as cries of outrage could be heard from all around.

Harry didn’t wait for a response before placing his arm securely around Luna’s waist and guiding her towards the entrance to the Great hall, ignoring all threats coming from the others. Surprisingly nothing of the kind came from the Slytherin table, they knew better then to upset someone as powerful as Harry and he was indeed powerful to all those that had enough sense to look.

After Harry left, Dumbledore made an announcement that nobody was to try and cause harm to Harry as he had stated that he would not react well to such and was likely to cause a great deal more harm back. It took a great deal of time to calm down the students but within an hour the Great Hall was empty again as the students were sent to their Common Rooms for the rest of the night until breakfast in the morning.

As a group the Slytherins, old and new made their way to their Common Room without a fuss to discus the new turn of events. Once everyone was in the room Professor Snape made himself known to the group of confused but determined Slytherins before him. It was a known fact that everyone outside of Slytherin thought that they were evil and would sooner kill them then look at them, and although that was true for some they could also see the value of muggles, they just knew they were better.

Professor Snape decided that his normal speech was not going to work this time as the new turn of events was too important to just ignore. As he stood before his Slytherins he could see that some hated the idea of Potter coming into Slytherin but they all accepted it. He had after all shown a great deal of Slytherin cunning to even get the Headmaster to agree to allow him into the school when he didn’t even give his name.

Receiving the attention of all those present, Professor Snape started to speak in a demanding but somewhat understanding tone of voice that he would only use to those in his house. “It seems as though what some of us had believed before is true and that Mister Potter does indeed belong in Slytherin. I can not say for sure what it is that he thinks he will achieve by coming into this knowledge now but it can be safe to assume that should one push him that he will push back. I’m sure that some of you have noticed his power over the years but it changed over the summer, it is by far a lot darker then previously so I would be weary of provoking him in any petty arguments, he is Slytherin and we protect our own, is that understood?”

At their nods, although some of them were hesitant, Professor Snape continued. “Now, as for the first years welcome to Slytherin. The other houses as you may already know have named all of us Dark Wizards and Death Eaters, although for some of us this is true you will not be pressured into serving the Dark Lord, that is your choice and yours alone though you may ask questions if needed. I, myself am a Death Eater and should you need to know anything before making your final choice then you may come to me, I will be honest to you and answer all questions that you have that I can, this applies to all of you.”

Some managed to flush at his pointed gaze, he knew that some of his new students were confused as to why he would openly admit to being a Death Eater, but all those present would keep it to themselves and never speak of it outside of those walls. When Snape spoke again he still had the attention of all students even though some of them had heard this speech before, he always changed it a bit each year to let them know that what he was speaking was truth, not a recited duty.

“It is likely that you will not have many friends outside of this house as many avoid and mock us at any given opportunity. It is because of this that Slytherin is a family one that you can trust and confide in. I understand that there will be fights but you will keep them inside of these walls, not out there with other students from different houses watching. Outside of Slytherin you will remain one and stick together, I don’t care if your mortal enemy is getting hexed, if he or she is in Slytherin you will help them.”

Another round of nods where made and Snape allowed a small smirk to appear on his face before finishing off his speech. “Now, although I should be telling you not to go against any rules, honestly as long as you don’t get caught I don’t care. However should you get caught by me you will be punished far worse then any teacher, is that understood? Although I may not take points from my own house I will not stop from giving detentions as well as suspension should the situation arrive. Any questions?”

When nobody said anything or made any indication that they had something to ask Snape turned and made his way back to his own chambers. Once he entered his rooms he quickly poured and downed a glass of Firewhiskey before making his way to the fireplace and took a handful of Floo Powder, speaking “Staff Room” very clearly while thinking, Gods I wish I could have taken the bottle with me… this is one meeting I never want to go to.
