Inside the Mind of the Potions Master
Chapter 5 – Inside the Mind of the Potions Master
Sorry about the wait! I can’t find my flash drive. But I won’t keep you waiting any longer, so I wrote this short little interlude until I can get what would have been chapter five, but will now be chapter six.
This is just a small insight into Snape’s thoughts so far.
~~~
Severus was too late. His private potions stores were in complete disarray.
“Fuck!” he shouted, and threw his chair across the room.
Knowing that destroying his office would only make getting it back to normal take that much longer, he forced himself to relax.
‘Just wait a little longer,’ he told himself. ‘It won’t be long before we catch the little brat. And then you will have your revenge.’
He began trying to put the potions cabinet back to its normal state. This was going to be a real pain in the arse, because many potions ingredients were virtually indistinguishable from others. Not mixing them up was essential, or it could take hours to be sure which exactly was which.
It was just another thing he added to list of reasons to make this person suffer as much as possible. This student had a lot of nerve, thinking that they had any right to punish him for anything. He’s endured more just in the last two years at the hands of Voldemort than this dunderhead probably ever had. Hell, he risked his life spying for Dumbledore to protect this moron and his friends, and this was the thanks he got. Snape was going to snap this little fool like a twig.
The Potions Master was more than a little angry with himself as well. He should have realized what had happened sooner. If he had, the culprit may have been caught. Instead, he let his anger blind him from the bigger picture. How could he have been so stupid as to not be more suspicious?
It was quite clear that someone was targeting him. Whoever they were, they certainly were not attempting to do serious harm. The culprit seemed to just be trying to make his already hard life even harder. It was rather juvenile, to be perfectly honest. So obviously a Gryffindor, who doesn’t think a second into the future.
He had two suspects so far: Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley. Possibly, they were even working together. This was just the sort of thing he’d expect from those two. They were idiotic enough to think they wouldn’t be caught, but their pranks were horribly traceable. How could they not think that he would not interview Longbottom? Or that he would not check their wands for breaking the seal on his office?
He considered the possibility that Miss Granger was also a part of this, but he shook that thought off. Granger was not the perfect little student that McGonagall tried to make her out to be, but she didn’t have the balls to go this far. She still followed some rules, and there was no way she would so blatantly harass/attack one of her precious teachers like this. Not only that, but Severus believed that she was above this sort of petty thing.
He was reluctant to admit it, but he actually admired Granger. She was very intelligent, way above the company she for some reason kept. Her courage and loyalty were also commendable, and he was certain that she would have an important part to play in wizarding history. Severus was actually more proud of her than any of this other students.
But he did not like to think of her, because he’d been guilty of having certain…thoughts about her that could be considered inappropriate. She was practically a woman now, and as such she had…er…grown.
Severus quickly shook those thoughts from his head, and focused on correcting his stores.
But while he didn’t suspect the girl, the two idiot boys were at the top of his list.
He couldn’t prove it, and it was possibly someone else. In fact, pretty much anyone in Gryffindor had the motive. But he was determined to uncover the truth. Severus was quite certain he could outthink and catch the pathetic culprit. When that time came, he knew beyond any doubt that he would make that person regret it.
Severus was not going to just stand by and take it; that was certain. This immature brat was not going to screw him over again. And once he caught them, Albus could go to hell.
Once he figured out who he was dealing with, he was going to exact the most brutal revenge he could possibly devise. This person was going to find out what one who once worked for Voldemort was capable of. His allegiance may not belong to Voldemort, but the dark seeds that the lifestyle had placed in him had created a malevolent thread that ran through his consciousness. That thread demanded satisfaction for the crimes against him. The headmaster’s detention/points/suspension system of discipline was not true satisfaction. If this person was going to be punished for humiliating him, the Potions master was going to make sure they knew it.
With that in mind, he yanked open his office door and headed to find Neville Longbottom.
