Chapter 5
Love of a Phoenix
Chapter 5
Hermione stood nervously outside of Severus’s classroom door. She took a deep breath, knocked on the door, then entered. She found Severus sitting at his desk grading papers. When he saw her, he smiled, and gestured for her to follow him. She returned the smile and followed him into his study. Once inside they sat on the sofa.
“Hermione, today Albus asked me an interesting question. He asked if before you told me you loved me, if I ever felt like we belonged together and if I felt the need to protect you. I thought about it and realized that I did feel that. I want us to get to know each other. I mean besides a teacher/student capacity.” Severus said.
“I would like that too. Where do we even start?” Hermione asked.
“I don’t know. All I know about you is that your parents were dentists. Well, that and you’re a Phoenix.” He replied.
“When I was in primary school, I had very few friends. The other kids considered me weird. Books became my friends. I would read anything I could get my hands on. I threw myself into my studies. Then I was accepted here. Even then I was considered a brain. When mum told me what I was, I considered myself an even bigger freak. Then Harry and Ron became my friends.
“When I realized I was in love with you, I became even more frightened. When Voldemort returned and killed my parents, I really started loosing control. Then I saw Malfoy. I know, in my gut, that he was part of those Death Eaters who killed my parents. Every time I see him, I feel the Phoenix growing stronger and stronger. Just wanting me to unleash it and turn him into a human crispy critter.” She explained as she stood up and began pacing.
Severus stood up and walked over to her. She stopped pacing. He gently pulled her into his arms and held her. She froze, but slowly began to return the hug. They stood there just holding each other.
“Hermione, now that I know you and I are meant to be, you’ll never be alone. I will always be here for you. Now, there’s something I need to tell you. You had better sit down for this.” Severus sighed.
He eased her over to the sofa. As they sat down, he took a fortifying breath then faced her. He quickly told her of the letter that Voldemort had sent him that morning. Hermione’s eyes went wide. He caught a glimpse of what she meant by the Phoenix within wanting out.
“Hermione. Look at me, relax. Please.” He pleaded as he took her face in his hands.
“No. If I go to him, I’ll lose control. There has to be something that can be done.” She said fearfully.
“That’s why Albus asked me to get you here. He has a plan that might help you control the Phoenix. Just give Albus a chance. I think his plan might work.” Severus said gently.
“All…all right. For you I’ll give it a try.” Hermione stuttered.
Just then, there was a knock on the study door. Severus pattered her knee as he stood up to answer it. In walked Minerva, Albus, and Aurora. Hermione looked at them with a mixture of trepidation, weariness, and confusion. Albus conjured up three extra chairs and some hot tea and crumpets. Once everyone was seated, he began speaking.
“Hermione, I understand why you kept this secret. I’m sure you’re wondering what Professor Sinstra is doing here. Well, Aurora, perhaps you should explain.” Albus said.
“Hermione, you’re not the only Phoenix in Hogwarts. I’m one too. When Albus told me, I was so surprised. Normally I can sense another Phoenix, but then he told me that your mother didn’t begin training you until you turned sixteen. Then I understood. You’re a novice Hermione.
“If you want, I can help you to hone your gift. And yes, being a Phoenix can be a beautiful gift. Especially to whoever you give your heart to. As a Phoenix, when our mates are in danger, we can sense it and we are instantly at their side. Severus, consider yourself lucky. Especially since this is Hermione.” Aurora explained.
“Lucky? He should be afraid. Professor, just about every Phoenix in my family has turned dark. I’m a danger to him and those I care about. Now, Voldemort has ordered him to bring me before him on Friday night. I’ll loose control. I just know it.” Hermione cried as she jumped to her feet.
“Hermione, relax. Everything will work out.” Severus said calmly as he stood up and took her in his arms.
Aurora watched and smiled. She saw Hermione immediately calm in his arms. A few minutes later, Hermione and Severus sat back on the sofa. Aurora faced them once more.
“The bond between you is already forming. This is good. Tell me something Hermione, when you’re around Severus, how do you feel?” Aurora asked.
“I feel calm. I mean, I still feel the Phoenix, but it feels different. I don’t feel the need to unleash it. I mean I do, but not in a dark or harmful way.” Hermione answered.
“I figured. What you are feeling is the Phoenix calling to your mate. Once you two take the step and consummate your relationship, the bond will be completely forged and unbreakable. Severus will then be able to sense when you need him.” Aurora explained.
Hermione and Severus just stared at one another. Both getting lost in each other’s eyes. Aurora cleared her throat and brought them back to the here and now.
“As for Friday, there are a few techniques I know that may help you there. I mean, they won’t completely suppress the Phoenix, but they will help you control it long enough for you to go to Voldemort.” Aurora said.
“All right, when do we start?” Hermione asked.
“Tomorrow is Saturday, I think it best we begin then. I know your friends have Quidditch practice, so we will begin at the same time. Meet me in my classroom at nine tomorrow morning.” Aurora answered.
Hermione nodded. Aurora, Albus, and Minerva bid Severus and Hermione good night, then left. Once alone Hermione and Severus sat on the couch. Severus pulled her into his arms. He felt her trembling like a leaf.
“Everything will be fine Hermione.” He said soothingly.
“I’m scared. I’m scared of loosing control and hurting someone. Especially you.” She replied as she laid her head against his chest.
“I know you’re scared. Like I said earlier, I’ll be there with you. I swear I will.” He whispered.
Hermione looked up as he looked down. Slowly they leaned into each other. When their lips met, it was like a fire had engulfed them both. He pulled her onto his lap and her body was now flush against his. Her fingers were immediately tangled in his hair. The kiss had ignited a spark between them.
“God. That was…what was that?” She asked, gasping slightly.
“I…I don’t know. I liked it though. Whatever it was.” He answered as he stared into her eyes.
Hermione nodded in agreement. He leaned down and captured her lips once more. Hermione readjusted herself and she was now straddling his waist. Both groaned into the kiss as their bodies touched.
“Severus.” Hermione sighed as he began kissing at her neck.
“Hermione. You feel so good.” Severus moaned as he brushed her hair aside.
Hermione tossed her head back, giving him greater access. He pulled her even closer. She wrapped her arms around his neck and sighed. He was awakening things within not only herself, but the Phoenix as well. Things, she wanted awakened.
“Hermione…should we…be doing this?” He groaned as he felt Hermione’s tongue glide over the shell of his ear.
“I don’t know…but I don’t want to stop.” She sighed into his ear.
That did it. Severus savagely crushed his lips over hers. Holding onto her, he stood up and began to stumble his way from the study. A few minutes later they reached his bedroom and crashed to the bed. Both began laughing.
“Are you sure Hermione? This is your last chance. If you stay now, I won’t let you leave this room until dawn. That I swear to you.” He said as he held her gaze.
“I’m sure. I want this Severus. Don’t stop now.” She replied.
Their lips met once more. With the flick of his wrist, their clothes melted away. Hermione gasped in pleasure as her naked body molded to his. Severus hissed as his hardening dick brushed her nether lips, feeling the wetness that was beginning to flow. Her fingernails slid slowly and sensually down his back to cup his firm ass in both hands.
“Hermione.” He sighed.
“On your back Severus. Please.” She said.
He rolled over and let her sit astride him. Their eyes remained locked on each others. She leaned down and kissed him. The kiss was short as she began dragging the wet digit over his chin and down his neck. Severus sighed. He felt as if his whole body was on fire.
