Chapter 4
Mutant VS. Magic
Chapter 4
“I can’t believe this,” Scott said as he watched the television and the report on the cure for mutants.
“There’s nothing to cure,” Storm said.
“I agree. Our mutations can’t be helped anymore than that of someone who is born deaf or blind,” Hermione added.
Ron just glared as he saw how Logan was staring at Hermione. He didn’t like it one bit. Before he could say anything, Rogue came walking into the office. “Is it true? They can cure us?”
“Yes Rogue. It appears they can,” Charles started to say.
“No they can’t,” Storm said as she got to her feet. “They can’t cure us…because there’s nothing to cure,”
Rogue looked a bit crestfallen and started to leave, but Hermione stopped her. “Rogue, wait,”
“Yes?” Rogue asked as she turned and faced Hermione.
“Look, I know what you’re thinking. I have a proposition for you. After I’m done here, you and Bobby meet me in my room. I think I have a way to help you with your mutation,” Hermione said.
“You mean you can stop it?” Rogue asked hopefully.
“In a manner of speaking. I can teach you to shut it off. If it doesn’t work, you have my word that I will take you to the clinic myself and hold your hand through the whole thing,” Hermione vowed.
“All right. About how long?” Rogue questioned.
“Give me twenty minutes,” Hermione answered.
Rogue nodded and left the room. “Hermione, you know that technique only works on certain mutants,” Charles said.
“Uncle Charles, I feel that Rogue is one of those whose mutations can be shut off when it’s not needed. I feel she may even master the technique quicker than I did,” Hermione replied.
“What are you talking about?” Logan asked.
“Logan, every mutant has the equivalent of a large light switch for their mutations. Of course, only certain mutants can actually turn it off. Most mutants don’t have that option. Take me for example. I can turn off my telekinesis and my Phoenix abilities, but I can never turn off my telepathy. I feel Rogue however, can turn hers off when she doesn’t need it,” Hermione explained.

“Okay Ron, what’s wrong?” Draco asked as he and Harry watched Ron close their bedroom door.
“It’s Hermione,” Ron replied.
“What about her?” Harry asked in confusion.
“Did you guys see how close she and that guy Logan were during the meeting? I think he likes her,” Ron answered.
“So what. They make a good couple. Their both mutants and she seems to like him in return,” Draco said.
“He isn’t good enough for her. All he’ll end up doing is hurting her. She should be with someone better. Someone who can appreciate her,” Ron hissed.
“You mean you?” Harry asked.
“Yes!” Ron yelled.
“Ron, look. You and Hermione don’t go together. Her and Logan do. I can’t explain it, but I just feel that those two were meant to be together. Besides, you would want her to just stay home and pop out kid after kid. That’s not Hermione. She’s too wild and willing to learn to be pent up inside the house,” Draco said calmly.
“Fuck you Malfoy! I love her and she will be my wife!” Ron screamed.
Harry and Draco watched in shock as Ron stormed from the room, slamming the door behind him. “Should we be worried?” Harry asked.
“I think we need to talk to Severus and Hermione’s uncle,” Draco sighed.

“Okay, I want you to close your eyes and clear your mind,” Hermione instructed.
Rogue took a deep breath and did as she said. Hermione sat cross-legged across from Rogue on the bed, while Bobby sat in the desk chair. Once Rogue’s mind was completely cleared, Hermione began the next set of instructions.
“Now, picture a large light switch. This is the switch for your mutation. It should be set on ‘ON’ at the moment. Do you see it?”
“Yes. It’s a soft green color,” Rogue replied.
“That’s it. Walk to it and turn it off,”
Rogue was silent for a few moments. Finally she opened her eyes and looked at Hermione. “I don’t feel any different,”
“You won’t. Now, Bobby come over here,” Hermione smiled. Booby walked over and stood beside the bed. “Touch Rogue’s cheek,” she instructed.
Without hesitation, Bobby reached out and placed his palm against Rogue’s cheek. Five minutes passed and nothing happened. “It worked” Rogue squealed.
Hermione laughed as the young girl threw her arms around her neck. Hermione returned the hug. “Whenever you feel you need it, just think of the light switch and flip it on. Here, try it now. Don’t meditate like you did before. Just picture it quickly, but picture it on instead of off. Got it?” Hermione said.
Rogue quickly saw the light switch and touched Hermione. Hermione felt her powers slowly draining. Rouge quickly pulled away. Without thinking she pictured the light switch off and touched Hermione’s hand.
“You all right?” Rogue asked worriedly.
“I was right. You’ve mastered that little technique a lot quicker than I did. I’m fine. Now, just because you can turn it off and you can touch Bobby without hurting him, don’t just rush into a huge decision,” Hermione smiled.
“You mean sex?” Bobby asked.
“Yes. Look, this has been a problem for you and it has caused a rift. You guys need to get to know each other and fix that rift first. Don’t rush into sex. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but you should want it to be the right time for you both. You get what I’m saying?” Hermione answered.
“I think we do. Thanks Hermione,” Bobby smiled.
“Yeah. I can’t repay you for this,” Rogue added with a bright smile of her own.
“You don’t owe me a thing, just glad I could help. Now you two get on to class. Oh and Rogue, tell Strom about what we did. Let her know that there is a cure, just a different kind of cure,” Hermione chuckled.
The couple nodded and hurried from the room. Hermione let out a relieved sigh as she got to her feet and went to find Scott. She was worried as to how he was dealing with everything.
