Questions with no Answers
‘He’s waking up.’
‘Ron, this is the hundredth time now, he isn’t waking up, give it up.’
‘Look at him, he is moving.’ Harry did want to get up but something was holding him down. What had they given him now?
‘No, he is still sleeping.’
‘I swear; he was moving.’
‘Ron!’ Harry heard Ron snort, a page be flipped over and footsteps moving towards the bed.
‘Madam Pomfrey, is he okay?’ They couldn’t have been there to long since she asked now, or maybe Pomfrey had been in the back room all the time.
‘Don’t worry; he is stronger than you may think.’
‘Is the baby okay?’
‘Yes.’
‘Why do you think he is blacking out like this? I mean, so often.’
‘It can be that he has been under a lot of stress lately, the exams and finding out about the pregnancy can be quite over whelming. I think I’ll tell Dumbledore to hold his exams, at least till after the birth, if he does decide to keep the baby.’
‘What do you mean?’ Hermione closed her book. ‘I thought he wanted to keep it.’
‘I can’t say anything else, I’m not allowed.’
‘Then well ask him when he wakes up.’
‘You will do no such thing, when he wakes up he will need plenty of rest.’
‘We will have to ask him, were his best friends.’
‘Then I have to keep you out till he is stronger.’
‘Why would he want to get rid of the baby?’ It was Ron’s turn to ask.
‘You two should leave now.’
‘Come on Ron, well be back later.’
‘Oh no you won’t, when he is ready he will come to you, don’t even bother coming up here.’ Ron and Hermione left while Pomfrey cooled Harry’s forehead before also leaving him. His eyes opened automatically when the office door closed, and his body was released from what kept him there. This was the second time he had waken up without being able to move or do anything. Was it meant so he could listen to what others were saying? Could it be the baby that was doing that? It was at least some kind of stronger power, and as far he knew the only great power around him was his baby. He couldn’t abort it; but he wouldn’t tell anyone about his decision yet, let them suffer for a while.
He stood up from the bed, still dressed he noticed, would be faster to get out of there. He saw that it was night by looking at the windows, wondering what to do now. He didn’t want to see Hermione or Ron yet, and there were no places he could hide besides the room of requirements, which didn’t interest him that much right at the moment.
He slowly opened the infirmary door and snuck out; looking both ways to be sure no one was close by. Once the door was closed behind him he decided to go the left, not sure where to but he didn’t care about any goal.
He had walked up the stairs and turned right when he was stopped by someone that thought it was funny to make fun of him behind his back.
‘Look at the pregnant bloke, the bottom in the relationship I would guess.’ Harry barely recognized Crabe’s voice, he had barley heard him talk, he wasn’t even sure he did know how to talk.
‘Surprised you can put together that many words.’
‘Let’s go guys, I need to repeat transformation.’ That was one voice he did recognize. It may be a good idea to turn around to see who else might be standing there. Luckily for him it was only Malfoy with those troll brains, if Pansy was with them, he would probably have some problems, but as it was, she wasn’t.
‘But Malfoy, I want to have some fun.’
‘Let them have their fun Malfoy, they can’t cut me down.’ He could see that Malfoy was going to say they should leave but was silenced by Harry. ‘So what does a baboon like you want to say? I have more brains than you, more skills, power, love, friends, everything. So if you think I’m powerless or weak only because I’m pregnant then you better think again. I’m even more dangerous, I am protecting the life of someone, and I will do whatever it takes to keep it safe.’ Crabbe’s smile had faded by the harsh tone Harry used, and Goyle was nervously looking between him and Crabbe. Malfoy on the toehr handwas looking at Harry with a really strange look on his face.
‘Let’s go Crabbe, he isn’t kidding.’ Goyle had fear in his voice, Harry’s speech had frightened him enough to make him wish he was in another place, he was pleased. It seemed that Crabbe was trying to take the lead, not that he would have enough power to become the leader, or brains to know how to become one, the only thing he had was the strength. They turned around and walked towards the stairs, when they reached them they stopped and then Malfoy continued down the hall while his followers were walking down towards the dungeon.
Harry wondered what was going on; Malfoy was acting really strange today. He decided to follow him; maybe he could get some questions answered.
Harry saw that Malfoy entered the bathroom where Moaning Myrtle was. Why would he ever do something like that? The only reason anyone would want to walk inside there was if they wanted to be alone. Was that what Malfoy wanted, to be alone? Nothing made any sense, and he wanted to find out the bottom in this mess.
He tried to open the door unnoticeable, but not being used often made it rusty so the plan of entering silently didn’t work. He could hear a stall be closed and locked and Myrtle screaming before she probably went through the wall or the toilet. Harry opened the door quicker and closed it once he was inside. The bathroom was silent, Malfoy was probably afraid of being caught and sat there without even blinking or breathing.
‘Malfoy.’ He could hear the other boy gasp and then splashing and crashing sounds echoed through the whole bathroom. Harry ran over to the stall he was sure Malfoy was in, he could hear Malfoy rise up before sliding again. Harry tried to open the locked door, but it wouldn’t open manually, and he had no idea where his wand was, Pomfrey probably had it.
‘Leave you prick.’ He wasn’t that easily offended, especially not by any Malfoy, and he wouldn’t leave him alone before he got some answers. ‘I said leave!’ He fell once more; Harry tried to open the lock with his nails and fingers, slowly it did open.
‘You aren’t in charge of me Malfoy.’ The lock opened and Harry pushed the door up, unfortunately Malfoy fell forwards the same time and hit the half open door, his head crashed with the door and he fell backwards again. There was water all around him, mixing with blood from his head.
‘See what you have done now?!’ He hadn’t been screaming or saying anything that would indicate that his head hurt; bloody Malfoy pride.
‘If you hadn’t stood on the toilet it wouldn’t have happened.’
‘I wouldn’t have stood up if you hadn’t come in here.’
‘I wouldn’t have come here if you haven’t acted strangely the whole day.’ Malfoy finally got a hold of something steady to stand on his feet, his cut on the forehead was pouring out blood.
‘What do you mean strange? You are the only one that isn’t normal here.’
‘What about the apology this morning in the owlery? And the strange looks you give me, and then ignoring me, telling those two asses you hang with to leave me alone, I want to know what is going on with you.’
‘Why? Why would you ever want to know anything about me? I’m your nemesis. Can’t you just leave me alone?’
‘No, I can’t get a straight answer by waiting on it so I am asking now. It’s not only you, everyone is hiding something from me, and now I want to know what is going on.’
‘Then why don’t you go and ask them?’
‘Because they can’t tell me what you are up to.’ Malfoy was pawning from trying to stand up and even less happy with Harry not wanting to leave him alone. He walked past Harry over to the sinks and examined his cut.
‘Why do you think I’m up to something Potter?’
‘Because, you have been behaving strangely all day is why.’
‘You are the one following me, I think that is strange.’
‘Don’t get started on that again, I want to know why you are acting like that, now tell me.’
‘Tell you what?’ He was still not looking at Harry, probably trying to hide something.
‘Tell me why you have been acting like a wimp all day.’ It had the effect on Malfoy that he wished; he turned around with his wand out, pointing it towards Harry and just looking at him. ‘Do it, I know you want to.’
‘No, I don’t. Why do you even want me to hurt you?’
‘I don’t, and you don’t either, so you have changed.’
‘No I haven’t.’ What a liar he was, did he think Harry would believe him?
‘Then why don’t you insult me? That is what you usually would do. Is it because of the pregnancy? So if I take abortion would you act the same as before?’
‘What? You are a maniac. You will take abortion to make me be mean to you? You aren’t normal.’
‘Maybe not, but if that is the only way I can get people to behave normally towards me then maybe I will.’
‘You aren’t worth it.’ Malfoy lowered his wand and turned around. He was walking towards the door, opening it with a stronger force than necessary. Harry wanted to say something but he couldn’t think of anything. There would come other times, he would get his answers.
Harry stayed there for ten more minutes before leaving too, he decided to go up to the owlery and talk with Hedwig. Maybe she would have some ideas of what to do, or just comfort him in the silent way she always used to.
He walked quickly up to the tower, only hearing his own steps. He loved the silence, the idea of being alone in the entire castle. He loved that even the portraits were quiet. Well, it was probably midnight so the students and teachers were surely in their own beds. The first exam was the next day so most would want to get a good nights sleep before that.
When he reached the top of the stairs he stopped to get a good look at the grounds, he couldn’t believe he only had eighteen days left before the end of this school year, soon only two weeks. Would he ever see the castle again? People could visit, couldn’t they? There were to many questions going through his head to try and find any sort of answer.
He slowly turned around and walked into the owlery, surrounded by sleeping owls. When he was further inside he found Malfoy on the floor, embracing his own legs and sobbing. His heart hurt by looking at the crying boy. Harry wished he knew what was bothering him so much so he could help him. He was standing there staring until Malfoy noticed him, not wanting to scare the Slytherin by suddenly talking. His eyes were all puffy and red; he almost didn’t care about Harry standing in front of him seeing him crying.
‘Why did you follow me?’
‘I didn’t know you were here, I swear. I only wanted to talk with Hedwig.’
‘There is no one here besides me and you.’ Harry just had to laugh, Malfoy had no idea who Hedwig was; he thought she was a human.
‘It’s my owl.’ Malfoy was offended by Harry making fun of him; he could see it by how his eyes had changed.
‘Then I should leave you alone with your owl.’ He rose up and was ready to walk away.
‘No, since you are here why don’t you keep me company? I still haven’t got any answers for my questions.’
‘And you won’t either; now get out of my way.’
‘Or else?’
‘I don’t have any or else, it’s an order.’
‘It’s nice to see you back to your old self.’
‘You are stranger than I thought.’
‘Yeah, I know.’
‘Potter, wake up.’
‘What?’ He was lying on the floor, he could feel the cold stones on his back; they were probably dirty with straws and owl shit. At this point he understood that if he suddenly found himself in a position like this one, suddenly on the floor or with people around him that wasn’t there beforehe had blacked out.
‘Merlin, why do you keep doing that?’ Malfoy was sitting next to him and looking down. He thought it was familiar in one way, but it was surely not the Malfoy from his memories. He could only remember someone bending over him, looking down at him with grey shining eyes that reminded him about two stars.
‘What do you mean keep doing it?’ Apparently Malfoy didn’t want to talk about it; he stood up and walked over to the other side of the room.
‘You should go back; your Gryffindor friends are probably searching the castle for you.’
‘They don’t know I’m here. What about your Slytherin friends? Aren’t they worried about you?’
‘No, I told them I would come later, they won’t worry.’
‘You’re lucky; I can’t even go to the toilet now without having a search group looking for me.’ Harry was sure he saw Malfoy smile, but it was a very short smile.
‘What do you want Potter?’
‘Answers.’
‘I can’t give you answers on questions I don’t want to answer.’
‘Then I know there is something you are hiding.’ Malfoy crossed his hands, looking at Harry with two sad eyes.
‘Give it up Potter; you won’t get anything out of me.’
‘If I want I can get you to confess what kind of stuffed animal you always used to carry with you as a child.’
‘I didn’t have any stuffed animals.’ He was offended by even the idea that a Malfoy could be soft hearted.
‘Do you want me to prove it to you?’ He rose up and walked out of the open door, leaned against the banister and then climbed it to sit on it, looking out on the forbidden forest with his back turned against Malfoy.
‘What are you doing?!’ Harry knew it was stupid, he shouldn’t play with his life in that way, but he wanted to know what Malfoy was hiding. ‘Get back here, what if you fall, or black out again.’
‘So you do care about me.’
‘You know what I mean, get back here now.’
‘Bossy.’ He smiled at Malfoy who was standing there almost petrified, afraid that something would happen.
‘I said get back here.’
‘Would you tell me what you are hiding then?’
‘No, I don’t want to.’
‘Why not?’
‘Because I just don’t.’ He walked over to Harry and dragged him off towards him. Harry fell backwards on Malfoy and they both fell down. Malfoy tried to stand up but Harry was just too heavy for him to just push him off. ‘Get off me you twit.’
‘That wasn’t nice, especially not after you dragged me off like that.’
‘So stay here then.’ Malfoy pushed one last time and Harry was off him, he rose up and was looking down at Harry. ‘Don’t speak to me again, and don’t try to manipulate me into telling you stuff ever again.’ With that said Malfoy turned and walked down the cold stone stairs. He didn’t even bother to look at Harry one last time.
Harry lay in the same position for a while; he thought through what he had found out so far. Malfoy was definitely hiding something, and it was important information since he kept it closed like that. He wouldn’t listen to Malfoy’s request of not talking to him again, his curiosity was hungry and Malfoy was the only one that could satisfy it for now. Tomorrow, seventeen days till the end of the school year, the end of everything, he would continue questioning him. Malfoy was a hard nut to crack, but he had to believe in himself.
An owl woke him up from his thoughts and made him realize he should go to sleep. There would be more time to think tomorrow, especially since he didn’t want to take the exams. So he rose up slowly, walked down the stairs and over to the Gryffindor tower. Everyone was asleep when he entered the room so he went straight to his own bed, not like he would want to stay up and answer their questions if they had been awake. And the bed was too welcoming to spend much time thinking about things, stretching out one last time was the only thing he needed to make him drift off to that sweet world of dreams.
‘Ron, this is the hundredth time now, he isn’t waking up, give it up.’
