They walked in silence back to the manor. It wasn’t a companionable silence, they were both just lost in their own thoughts. It was a difficult job, swallowing the story they had been told. Of course, it made sense, but it didn’t mean that either of them had to like it.
Their private analyses of Dumbledore’s tale carried them all the way to the front steps of the manor. Before they went in, though, Draco sighed and said, “Would you like to sit in the library with a cup of tea and discuss what we were just told?”
Hermione eyed him wearily; ultimately deciding him was being honest. “Why are you being nice to me?” she eventually asked.
Just as wearily, Draco replied, “Because we are stuck with each other for five years, at the minimum, and if I make you miserable then I know you’ll make me miserable then we’ll both be miserable.”
His logic seemed to make sense to Hermione, and she said, “Alright, then. Truce, Draco?” His name felt foreign on her lips, yet it seemed natural to say it. From the expression on his face, it was clear that its use was not overlooked and meant something to him.
“Truce, Hermione,” Draco agreed. To his surprise he found that her name rolled off his tongue in a rather pleasant manner, if it was a little strange to hear it coming out of his mouth.
He offered his arm to his wife, and she took it. “How do you like your tea, Hermione?”

At the end of the day, they had accomplished quite a lot. Draco had left abruptly to avoid yelling at Hermione twice, and Hermione had spilt her tea on him while trying o control her anger three times. But despite these infractions, they were able to figure out quite a lot.
Draco confessed that he had been wanting to fuck her since the Yule Ball in their fourth year, and seeing that he did admire her brains, admitted that the two amounted to having a crush on her for three years. He also wrote a letter to his mother explaining that he had eloped and she was to come back to England when possible so as to meet her new daughter-in-law. After a House Elf had taken that letter away, he wrote a quick note to Pansy, congratulating her on her and Ron’s relationship and thanking her, because it had driven Hermione into his arms and they were now a couple. He figured that the specifics of how much a couple they were could wait until they were face to face, and once he and Hermione had worked out what they would do once they went back to school.
Hermione confessed that a part of her had had a crush on him on and off since first year. The way she put it, it was in first, fifth, and sixth year. She wrote a letter to her parents saying that she had eloped, and when should they come by for dinner? As for the Weasleys and Harry, she wrote letters to them saying that she was staying with a friend, and also set up times to meet Ron, Harry, Ginny, and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley individually at the Leaky Cauldron to explain the full story.
Both Draco and Hermione agreed that their parents would be nothing compared to their friends. Blaise Zabini, Theo Nott, and Pansy Parkinson would understand, after some explaining, but the rest of Slytherin House might not. Likewise, while Ginny and every female in Gryffindor would understand in a heartbeat, Ron, Harry, and the Gryffindors might post a bit of a problem.
Aware that there was now a woman required to sleep in his bed every other night, and they had to share a bedroom, Draco suggested that they take up one of the guest rooms. They had a little more color, and did not cause either of them to remember what had happened the night before any more than necessary. She readily agreed, and while she was picking out which one (they were all the exact same but had different color schemes), he sent a House Elf to the Weasleys to deliver the letters and to get Hermione’s things.
Draco might have been a seventeen-year-old wizard, but he knew that if he were to keep his wife from murdering him, he needed to keep her happy. Of course, like all Malfoy men, he had taken a wizard’s oath when he was eleven never to cheat on a woman, and he was really hoping to get laid sometime within the next five years.
