Chapter Five

The first thought that crossed his mind when daylight splayed its fingers over his face was, this feels good. A little sound of pleasure growled at Remus' throat, at the sensation of long silky hair cool upon his chest, the warm satin flesh of a female flush against his body and making him thoroughly aroused. Wait. His eyes opened in a flash. A female in his bed?
Nymphadora was still asleep, her long lashes throwing shadows on the pale cheeks, and her hair changing color constantly. She looked lovely, Remus' eyes widened at the sight of her breasts clinging to the pink silk nightie she wore, the way the silk slid over her thighs and broadcasted her firm, slim legs. He could smell her delicious scent, in which he wished to bury himself and never come out.
When her eyelids fluttered, Remus mused, "I thought you said you wouldn't throw yourself at me."
"You should have known better than that," Tonks muttered sleepily. "Now bugger off and make breakfast." Remus chuckled at her response- which was distinctly Tonks.
"I see you are back to normal," he called over his shoulder, "glad to see you're not moping around about me." Walking to the kitchen area, Remus took out some bacon, eggs, and sausages from the refrigerator.
Tonks retorted, "Well, you see, I figured out there's probably lots of fish in the sea. Or werewolves in this forest. I don't need to be a living Moaning Myrtle for you." Her comment, though nonchalant, burned through Remus' veins. Could she forget him like that so easily? He told himself that was what he wanted, as he broke eggs into a frying pan. That had been Remus' aim- to get Tonks to stop liking him with as little pain as possible. Yet the idea of Dora wrapped up in another man's, being touched and caressed by someone who was not himself, drove him to a frenzy.
"And that's why you spent the night in my bed?" Remus said, tossing the bacon and sausages into another pan, where they hissed deliciously.
She reddened- her face, her hair, everything. "That was a mistake. It's not my fault you were caterwauling to the high heavens and woke me up. I thought someone was attacking you and well, I accidentally fell asleep." As the magically cooked food arranged itself on two plates, Remus inched closer to Tonks, eyes hot. She backed away, not looking at him in the eye.
"Accident, Dora? Somehow I don't believe you," his voice was husky.
"Um..."
He suddenly went back to the food. "We had better eat quickly. We want to reach the Barri werewolves as fast as possible."
With a relieved sigh, Tonks accepted a plate, wondering what had just occurred between them.

Albus Dumbledore was rarely surprised, but there were the few occasions that he was entirely nonplussed. This was one of those moments. His bright blue eyes widened at Minerva McGonnagall. "Are you sure?" he asked her in a low whisper.
"I am. Arthur Weasley found him. He's alive, Albus." Professor McGonnagall's normally dour face was alight with joy, her eyes soft with tears.
"Minerva, this is uplifting news... it's beyond belief, a miracle. Have you told the boy?" Albus stuttered excitedly.
"No," Minerva answered, "I thought you ought to be the one to tell him."
"And Lupin... he should be alerted at once! It'd brighten up the man entirely." The Headmaster quickly snatched at a piece of parchment and a quill, writing furiously, his tears dribbling on the paper. While writing, he said, "Go on, tell him at once. What wonderful news!"

"Thank Merlin you're here, Holly," said the stout mediwitch, wiping away the sweat that beaded her brow. "There's no one like you with healing."
"What is the matter?" Holly asked, immediately following Carol Endwidge, who was walking swiftly to one of the rooms.
"There is a rather serious case. A man was just wheeled in and he's not in good shape- apparently took a powerful Stunner directly to the chest a while ago, but he's still alive, though his pulse is growing weaker... it's a wonder he's alive!" She opened the door to the room, and Holly hurried in.
The man was wasted, but there were traces of former handsomeness in the thin face. He was breathing raggedly. Holly said to Carol hastily, "Bring some Blood Replenishing Potion, as well as some Pepper-Up Potion, and some of the restricted one that I made a while ago, you know which one. We're going to save him." Carol rushed out to get the potions.
Drawing in a deep breath, Holly laid her hands lightly on the man's weak chest. Closing her eyes, she registered the damage done- years of poor food, Azkaban, torment. Blue and silver ropes of light entered the man's body from her hands, healing him enough to ensure life. When Carol reentered, her arms full of potions, Holly looked tiredly at her and said, "He's getting a bit better- the potions should be good."
Pouring drafts of each in the man's mouth, the patient regained color in the thin face, and his eyes opened for a moment, then closed back again wearily. He must be in heaven, Sirius Black thought, for he'd seen the loveliest angel imaginable.
