ADEHR Ch 5

Finally after about a half hour of riding in the carriages, everyone made their way inside the castle and into Great Hall. Everything seemed to be going good this year so far. The train ride was uneventful for most, the carriage ride was just spent talking to friends about the summer or about future careers, and McGonogall made her speech as the new headmisstress and the Sorting was normal. Everyone greeted the new first years that were sent to their table and the feast began and ended with nothing out of the ordinary happening, so naturally one would have no worries for the rest of the night or for tomorrow even. Everyone went to bed with a clear mind ready to begin the day of classes tomorrow. Even Harry, Ron and Hermione had forgotten all about going to see McGonogall about what had happened on the train. They were all too tired to really care and it wasn’t really that important was it? I mean it was just singing, no harm could come from singing could it?

Only they forgot one thing, one should really never assume anything unless one is absolutely sure, then it’s not really assuming when you know it is?

The next day everyone woke up well rested and ready for classes to start.

Harry got up at six o’clock, like he usual does on the first day, showered, got dressed, made sure he had his homework he had done over the summer, and went down to the common room to wait for his friends to arrive so they could all go down to breakfast together. Hermione was already sitting in a chair in front of the fire waiting, so he went over and sat down on the sofa to wait for Ron.

“Hey Mione, did you sleep well?”

“Oh yes and you, no nightmares or anything?’

“No actually I slept perfectly fine, which is quite unusual for me I know but I enjoyed it none the less.”

“Well it’s nice to hear that you finally got some peaceful rest, maybe those nightmares of the final battle are finally starting to go away!”

“Well I sure do hope so; I don’t know if I could have gone on much longer waking up every three hours with that face in my head, I just might have pitched myself over the Astronomy Tower this year eventually.”

“Harry don’t you dare joke about something like that, you life is nothing to joke about!”

“I know Hermione but I just needed to lighten the mood, it was getting far too depressing.”

“Well you could have joked about something else.”

“Like what pitching Malfoy off the Astronomy Tower?”

“Now who in their right mind would joke about something so serious?!” Ron said as he made his way over to the sofa where Harry was seated.

“You’re right mate, if I would have said it I would have been completely serious.”

“Uh, you guys are so childish, doesn’t he fact that Malfoy helped us out mean anything to you?” questioned Hermione.

“Just because he helped the Light side in the war has nothing to do with the fact that he still a pompous, slimy git that insulted, and ridiculed us for the past six years!” exclaimed Ron.

“We are no longer children Ron, why can’t you just let go of childish grudges?” asked Hermione.

This argument was a long one running. It started about a month after Malfoy had come to Grimmauld Place. It turns out that Snape was actually fighting for the Light side, and was forced to kill Dumbledore on the Headmasters own orders. Since he had made an Unbreakable vow to protect Malfoy he brought him to the Order so he would be protected and so he could give any information or offer any help that would aid in help killing Voldemort. It turns out he did have some useful information, such as where Voldemort’s hideout was. So with that information and the added help in making the potions needed to destroy the Horcruxes, Harry was able to defeat Voldemort.

Harry had long since forgiven Malfoy of his past actions, but that didn’t mean he actually considered him a friend, let alone actually like him. Hermione on the other hand was much more forgiving and decided to try and befriend Malfoy this year, and was pleasantly surprised that he had talked to her yesterday. Hopefully the process of befriending the blonde Headboy would be much easier that she had hoped.

“Guys come on just drop it, Ron you know Hermione won’t let it go and neither will he Mione.” Harry said turning to look at Hermione.
“Let’s just go down to breakfast, I don’t want to face Snape on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.”

Knowing Harry was right, and not wanting to miss breakfast, or go to Potions class on an empty stomach either, Ron quickly dropped the argument and offered his apologies to Hermione and headed for the portrait.

“Well come on guys don’t want to be late for breakfast.” Ron said as he rushed his friends out of the door and down the stairs to the Great Hall.
