To Hell With Time Changes

~*~*~*~*~

Phoebe had fallen into a fitful sleep. She dreamt of beautiful hazel eyes as her unconscious mind tried to remember where she had seen them before.

Knock, knock, knock.

Phoebe groaned as she was awakened by the noise. If I ignore them, will they go away? she thought hopefully.

The knocking came again—more insistent this time. With a frustrated sigh, Phoebe threw off her covers and dragged herself out of bed to answer the door. Ginny and Hermione stood on the other side smiling brightly, wide awake.

“Your sister, Piper, asked us to wake you. She said you and Paige need to get used to the time change,” Ginny said happily.

Phoebe just looked from one girl to the other with narrowed eyes.

“Piper seemed to think you would prefer it if we woke you instead of her,” Hermione said uncertainly, put off by the dangerous expression on Phoebe’s face.

“She thought I’d ‘like it better?’ ‘Take it better’ is more like it,” Phoebe said darkly. “And she was right; I don’t want to kill the messenger or messengers. But now I have to get changed and go all the way downstairs to kill her.” Noticing the horrified looks on the girls’ faces, Phoebe relented and smiled. “I’m sorry. I just get cranky when I haven’t had enough sleep. Have you two tried to wake Paige up yet?”

“No,” Ginny and Hermione said together, looking relieved.

“Well, I suggest that you take a strong mug of tea to her. She’s worse than I am in the morning,” said Phoebe with a small laugh. “Thanks for getting me up. Piper’s right, we do need to get used to the time change. Just don’t tell her I said so.”

After getting everything she would need for a shower, Phoebe picked out a tight, black tank top that showed off her stomach, a pair of low-rise, bell-bottom jeans, and a pair of black, platform sandals. She then made her way to the bathroom at the end of the hall.

When she was done with her shower and dressed, Phoebe made her way back toward her bedroom with a towel wrapped around her head. Ginny and Hermione were still knocking insistently on Paige’s door. Hermione was holding a mug of tea in her hand.

“Let me try,” Phoebe said with a smile, amused at their persistence.

Bypassing the knocking, she walked right into Paige’s room while the younger girls hovered in the doorway. Paige had thrown her pillow over her head and was lying on her stomach. Phoebe yanked the pillow and covers off of her sister.

“Quit! Go away,” Paige groaned, turning onto her side, feeling for Phoebe with her eyes closed against the morning light.

“Everyone else is already up. Ginny and Hermione have brought you a mug of tea. Get up or I’ll pour it on you,” Phoebe threatened.

Paige opened one eye, peering blearily up at Phoebe. “No, you wouldn’t.”

“I haven’t slept much either. Try me.”

“Fine,” Paige said grumpily, sitting up on the edge of the bed. She put her hand through her hair, pushing it back out of her face.

Phoebe gestured for Hermione to bring the mug to her sister. “Here; drink this. I’m going to go finish getting ready. You better be in the shower by the time I’m done, or I’m coming back with a bucket of ice-cold water. If I have to be up, so do you. Look on the bright side—we can go torture Piper for making us get up when you’re done,” Phoebe said tantalizingly.

“Was there ever any doubt?” Paige asked sarcastically, taking the mug from Hermione. “Thank you and sorry. We’re not morning people. Piper is the only one who likes mornings.”

“Come on. She’s up, so your mission is accomplished,” Phoebe said, leading the girls from the room and closing the door behind her. “I was wondering if I could ask you a question?”

“Of course,” said Hermione eagerly.

“Follow me,” Phoebe said, heading toward her room. Once they were inside, Phoebe picked up her blow-dryer and asked, “Where can I plug this in at?”

Ginny and Hermione looked at each other anxiously, both silently vowing to never wake them up again.

Phoebe entered the kitchen after towel-drying her hair as best as she could. She was still muttering to herself furiously. Who the hell didn’t have electricity?

“Hi, honey, sleep well?” asked a pale-looking Piper in a sweet voice.

“Bite me,” Phoebe growled back. “Did you know that they don’t have electricity?”

Piper smirked. “Found that out this morning, too.”

As she spoke, Molly entered the kitchen with Remus. “Good morning! Would you like something for breakfast? Eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast?”

“No, thank you, Molly,” Phoebe said, smiling tiredly. “I’m not awake enough to eat,” she added, glaring at Piper. Turning back to Molly, Phoebe said, “Ginny and Hermione said that you knew a spell to dry hair? They said that they weren’t allowed to practice magic outside Hogwarts because they’re under age?”

“Children under the legal age of seventeen are not allowed to perform magic anywhere except school,” Remus said, looking over Phoebe in what he hoped was an inconspicuous manner. The clothes she wore showed off a butterfly tattoo on her lower stomach and a ring in her navel. He would have to ask her later why she would want metal put in her skin.

“I can dry your hair for you. It will only take a second or two,” Molly said. She nonverbally performed the spell and, almost instantly, Phoebe’s hair was completely dry.

“Wow, can you teach me that spell once we get our wands?” Phoebe asked eagerly.

“I’d be happy to,” Molly replied with a smile.

“Would you ladies like a cup of coffee?” Remus asked them, noting how tired they both looked.

“Coffee?” Phoebe echoed, perking up instantly. “You have coffee?”

Piper looked at her sister as though she had lost the last bit of sanity that she’d had left.

Molly laughed and replied, “Yes, of course we do.”

Remus conjured cups of steaming coffee for the sisters. “There you go.”

“Oh, thank you, thank you! This is leaded, right?” Phoebe asked.

“Excuse me?” Remus asked, glancing at Molly, who also looked confused.

“She wants to know if the coffee is caffeinated,” Piper explained, smiling in amusement.

“Oh,” Remus said, realization dawning on his handsome face. “Yes, it is.”

Phoebe was studying him, having noticed that he was looking a bit pale and a little ill. “Are you feeling okay? You look kinda pale. Didn’t you get much sleep either?” she asked, giving Piper a venomous look.

“Oh, uh, I-I’m fine. I j-just had trouble sleeping, also,” he stammered unconvincingly.

Phoebe narrowed her eyes, clearly not believing him, but she simply said, “All right.”

Paige finally made an appearance a few minutes later, brandishing her own blow-dryer. “Where are your outlets at? I’ve looked everywhere!”

Phoebe looked pointedly at Piper, sipping her coffee. “You tell her.”
