On the first Valentines Day of their first friendship, Luna had given her a box of chocolates, a box shaped like a heart with a card attached to it. Luna had walked the expense of the Great Hall without thought, oblivious to the questioning glances people gave her. She stopped in front of the Slytherin table, behind Millicent waiting for her to acknowledge her. Luna knew that Millicent knew that she was behind her, but she needed some time to put down the apple she was eating and turn around.
Millicent was having trouble hiding the smirk on her lips. She found the entire scenario hilarious. It wasn’t an everyday occurrence seeing an insane Ravenclaw giving a Slytherin a box of chocolates.
Millicent turned slowly to face Luna, still chewing on her apple. She glanced at the box in Luna’s hand. “That for me?” She asked nodding to the box.
“Yes” Luna extended the box. Milli took it, gave it an uninterested scan, rose and left. Luna returned to her table sat down and finished her breakfast.
No one commented on the strange incidence that took place that day. But many became increasingly interested in both Luna and Millicent. No matter how many times a person might see them sitting under a tree, doing whatever they felt like doing that particular day, they could not help but stop and stare. Luna never encountered any more teasing or ridicule, although Millicent did find herself annoyingly scrutinized by her fellow Slytherin. No one dared to ask them of their ‘friendship’, that until a nice spring day, two months before summer vacation, when a too curious, know-it-all Gryffindor couldn’t help but question them.
