Thank you everyone who reviews! I love you all! As there are no questions that I know of (if there are you'll see an edit), then let chapter five begin!
Chapter Five: Cauldron Dragon
“Well, this sucks. I wanted to speak with fair Quiari today.” Erique had his hands folded behind his head, a pout on his face. Hazelton rolled his eyes. “You’d be doing all the talking again.” Said Hazelton quietly, but Erique didn’t seem to notice. “I want to ask her about what happened in the lake.” Said Erique. “I’m sure everyone does.” Said Hazelton. They were sitting quietly in Potions class, as Erique had finished making his potion a few minutes ago; he was sitting back, waiting for the professor to check his potion. “Still…I wanna be the one to ask her.” Hazelton sniffed. “Because you want to see if your charm works on comatose patients?” Hazelton was still mixing his potion quietly, checking the book every few minutes. Erique gave a glare that could freeze fire, Hazelton had his back turned. “That’s not it.” Erique’s voice was a hissed whisper. “Then what is it, lover boy?” Hazelton’s smirk had the desired effect on Erique, whose eye started twitching. “She’s the only girl in the school…every boy is interested in her…” Hazelton turned with a cocked eyebrow. “So, you’re telling me it’s not love?” asked Hazelton.
“I’m saying I’ve got competition.” Erique’s voice was surprisingly calm; a perfectly arched eyebrow made the eyes skeptical. “Fortunately, none of these boys pose much of a challenge, especially you.” Said Erique quietly, and Hazelton started chopping up a beetle…hard. “And why is that, oh great love guru?” asked Hazelton, a dangerous tone coming to his voice. Erique rolled his eyes as if the answer were obvious. “Because, my dear Hazy, I’m afraid you’re the only one here who hasn’t been checking her out. I’m starting to think that maybe…” Erique stopped at the cocked eyebrow Hazelton now faced towards him. “What?” Hazelton’s mouth widened in a smirk and he winked slowly. “You know you like it, tiger.” Said Hazelton and Erique went incredibly pale. “Why wasn’t I born blind?” he asked, trying to regain his indifferent face, but Hazelton’s amused face wouldn’t let it be. “Just…shut up and get back to your potion…” grumbled Erique, blushing a slight pink, and Hazelton chuckled before turning back to his cauldron. “Whatever you say, Erique, my love.” Said Hazelton and Erique snapped his head to face Hazelton, who had his back turned.
A soft click came at the bottom of the door. “You’re late!” shouted the potions master, and the door opened to reveal Quiari with an enormous stack of books in her arms. She stepped forward, long fingers wrapped around the edges of the books, and it seemed that her heels clicked even louder than they should have on the stone. She didn’t stop moving forward, and she walked with a slight limp, barely noticeable, but still present. She seemed to ignore the potion master’s cold glare, and she put the stack of books on a table in the corner of the room. She sighed quietly, just barely, and then straightened up and turned to face the potions master. She stood straight and tall, but her eyes were to the ground to the left, her bangs hid her eyes. “Well, Miss Quiari, I’m surprised you’re still able to attend Durmstrang School after your little “show” yesterday.” Said the potions master, and Quiari didn’t say anything, just stood quietly.
“Tell me, what kind of creature are you to be able to transform without a wand?” asked the potions master, Quiari said nothing, but her right arm came up to her left and she gripped her left arm tightly. The potions master didn’t turn his gaze away, just glared at Quiari when he didn’t receive an answer. “Just to see, make a potion!” the potions master said sharply, and Quiari took in a deep breath and took a step back. She didn’t look up. “As I thought.” Said the potions master smugly, and Quiari looked up before shooting her head down again. Her hand tightened on her arm, the knuckles turning white. “I wouldn’t expect your kind to understand the intricacies of potion making. After all, what use have you for them?” the potion master’s voice was cold and cruel, unforgiving. Quiari bowed and then turned her back to the potions master; something she had never done before. “Don’t turn your back on me!” shouted the potions master, but Quiari kept walking, the soft click of her heels the only sound. She was trembling, but her eyes were alight with anger.
“Didn’t your parents teach you anything of respect?” demanded the Potions master, and Quiari stopped. Her eyes had gone wide, and there were tears forming in them. The Potions master smirked, knowing he’d struck a sensitive point. “Or…you have no parents…perhaps?” Quiari stiffened and straightened up, eyes blazing in anger again. She swept around, arms falling to her sides, and the Potions master seemed to shake beneath the unforgiving gaze she sent towards him. She moved forward, cupboards opening and closing after releasing their ingredients. She walked up to the Potion master’s cauldron and waved her hand, the potion he’d previously been making drifted out of the cauldron and the new ingredients began to add themselves, floating back to their cupboards after their part in the potion was mixed. The mixture glowed in the cauldron, reflected in Quiari’s hair, and off her eyes. She only had one ingredient to go and then the potion would be done. She held her hand above the cauldron, taking in a deep breath, and then she brought out a dagger and made a clean cut to her wrist. The students watched in awe as she emotionlessly gave her blood to the potion, turning it a dark red instantly. She blew across the cut, green flames engulfing her hand, and the cut healed. The cauldron bubbled for a moment before it let off an incredibly bright flash of light. Only Quiari didn’t scream, she didn’t even cover her eyes. When the flash was gone, the Potions master was on the floor, he’d fallen over. The cauldron was empty, and Quiari reached into it and pulled out something the students had never seen before…a baby dragon.
It was long and twisted around her arm in its serpentine body. It was like a large caterpillar with a mane and tail of blue fire. Quiari smiled softly at the creature and it squeaked at her. She stood up straight, looked down at the Potions master coldly, and then walked out of the room before dashing down the hall to the library. The Potions class was in awe. “Well…get back to work!” shouted the Potions master, breaking out of his embarrassed daze, and the students instantly went to work while Erique sat in the back, just staring straight ahead. “Well…that was interesting.” He said, and Hazelton just nodded and focused again on his potion.
