Gargoyle-kind

Part 5: Gargoyle-kind ...

He never looked back. Good. I have no clue what the Snape version of me might have said to Malfoy but it looked to be something that had the other boy flushed and frustrated. Silently the human half of me was secretly hoping that it was Snape's usual razor tongue that had cut Malfoy down a notch or two. That might explain the confused and flushed look on his face. The gargoyle half knew it was a mating dance between two human males. With my gargoyle side I could smell the arousal from both males. That information was a little disconcerting, however, I didn't have time to look too closely at that information.

The Snape-me paused just for show, extended a hand, and whispered, "Your up, Potter."

"See you soon, Professor." I whispered back to Snape as if I were wishing him luck.

I nodded my head and shook his hand in my clawed one. It felt strange looking at myself and pretending to have never have met me. After all it was the same face I'd been looking at in the mirror for the past seventeen years. Still it was ironic. In a way, I was seeing myself for the first time, just through another's eyes. I wasn't beautiful or elegant like Malfoy but in my own way I was handsome. Of course its probably because I was slightly biased that I think that. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked back to see Hagrid jerking his head at the door.

Releasing Snape's hand I watched as the elves hurriedly put my things in a carriage and Snape rode off in it. He would be taken to the back part of the school were he would change back and slip in unnoticed to sit at the head table as if nothing was out of the norm. I wish I could pretend the same. From this point on I had only Hagrid and the Headmaster for my friends. No one would know me.

*No one would know me?* A voice inside my head asked me how that was any different from normal life. Which made me chuckle as I walked up to the doorway that would lead me into the Great Hall. I found myself folding my wings around my shoulders like a cloak partly for something to do with them and partly to shield myself, if only slightly, from prying eyes. I walked into the hall with Hagrid at my side. My head held level to the floor, the gargoyle half of me wary of all these humans, so my eyes scanned the room as if checking for potential attacker. We walked straight up the middle and I felt as if I were a first year all over again. It was when I found myself looking up at Dumbledore that it sunk in that I had a fresh start and with no expectations or pressure from the outside world I could finally just be who I am.

"Greetings friend." Dumbledore addressed me.

"Greetings." I replied back.

I could feel every eye in the place was on me. I fought the strange feeling that I should growl at them to stop but only just.

"It is an honor to have you join us. I'm sure your stay here will be both informative and pleasant." the headmaster's eyes twinkled at me.

"We shall see." was my only answer. In truth I didn't think it would be either pleasant nor informative. I knew I was an outcast yet again but this time I had a chance to really change that.

"Yes, well then. I've been told you understand the rules here so we can skip that part. As is our tradition you'll be required to go through the sorting ceremony." he told me.

I nodded at him and followed him up the stairs to the place the stool and the sorting hat resided. Professor McGonagall lifted the hat from the stool and stood to the side for me to sit. Looking at the seat I realized I'd have to open my wings and lift my tail in order to accomplish this. Stepping slightly off center and well away from the Professors I extended my wing to their full span. Startled gasps and sharp intakes of breath could be heard throughout the room. I doubted anyone had seen a living gargoyle's wings this close before in over one hundred years. I carefully made my way to the stool and lifted my tail sitting as quickly as possible. Folding my wings back and curling my tail so that it would pool wrap around the stool legs and out of the way, I sat there and faced the school full on for the first time as Bolt the gargoyle.

A/N: I know a lot of people have been asking about Snape as Harry allowing Draco groping him. The reasons for that will soon be revealed, so please be patient as the answer lies withing the next two chapters. Also, I am still in need of a beta for this story as my last one is going through a divorce and hasn't the time. Any takers?

As always, reviews are welcome.
