Dinner With the Weasleys
Dinner With the Weasleys
Harry knocked softy on the door. It had been a while since he had come to visit Ron and Hermione. It would be nice, the golden trio together again, he thought as he heard movement from inside.
The door opened and Hermione greeted him warmly.
“Harry! It’s so good to see you!” She exclaimed, moving aside so he could enter their house.
“Hello, Mione. It’s good to see you too,” he said planting a kiss on her cheek before stepping across the threshold into the modest house.
“Heya, Harry,” Ron said, walking down the stairs.
“Hey, Ron,” Harry said, smiling.
“Supper’s almost ready,” Hermione said, closing the door behind them.
“So, how are things?” Harry asked, interrupting Ron’s gaze, which was planted firmly on his retreating wife.
“Things are great,” Ron said. “Hermione’s working for the ministry in their legal department, and Fred and George opened up another Wheezes, so they gave me location two, in Diagon Alley.”
“That’s so great, Ron!” Harry replied to a beaming Ron.
The twins’ business had really taken off, and when they hired Ron after graduation, Harry knew it wouldn’t be long before they gave him one of the stores to run.
Harry still felt a scrap of pride in knowing that arguably the most lucrative joke shop in Wizarding Britain came to be because of him.
“It’s ready,” Hermione called from within, and Harry and Ron followed her voice to the dining room.
“Wow, Hermione, this all looks delicious,” Harry said, eyeing the table before them.
“Thank you,” she said, beaming.
Cooking had never really been her strong suit, but years of teaching by Mrs. Weasley had really paid off.
“Well, let’s sit down,” Hermione said, looking as thought she might burst.
“What’s going on?” Harry asked.
They could never keep anything from him.
“Well, we were going to wait until dessert to tell you, but I don’t think Mione can keep it in that long,” Ron joked.
“We’re going to have a baby,” Hermione said in a rush, a huge smile on her face.
“Oh, that’s---well congratulations!” Harry said, opening his arms to hug them both.
The trio embraced before sitting down to supper.
“So, how did your mum react to the news?” Harry asked them.
“Well, you’re the first person we have told,” Ron said sheepishly.
Hermione reddened a little.
“Yeah, I haven’t even told Ginny yet,” Hermione said with a smile.
Harry’s face fell a little. He tried to hide it, but Hermione caught on instantly.
“You still love her, don’t you?” she accused.
“No, no of course not,” Harry said, ears going pink. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
Ron and Hermione exchanged a look.
“She’s single, you know,” Ron said.
“Well, I’m not,” Harry snorted into his glass.
“Really? Who is the girl?” Hermione asked with great interest.
“Endor--Ismelda,” Harry replied a little too quickly.
“You can’t even remember her name,” Hermione accused.
“Her middle name is Endora,” Harry said, hoping they would drop it.
“Well, perhaps you can bring her around for dinner sometime,” Hermione suggested.
“Yeah,” Harry trailed off.
They finished the rest of the meal in silence.
Ginny looked around her flat once more. Everything was packed, and she had thoroughly scourgified the entire place. All that remained was reducing her luggage and turning the key in to her landlord. She was going to miss her little flat.
Her flat in New York would be bigger, and much more expensive, but with the pay raise they were offering her at St. Mungo’s, and the signing bonus, she was able to secure it immediately.
She had been told there was a wizarding coffee shop down the walk, and that there were a few other witches and wizards living in her building, but that she would have to remain discreet, as the building was mostly Muggle. When she told her father that, he began to make immediate plans to visit her.
“Now, Arthur,” Molly had said. “It wouldn’t do for you scare off all of Ginny’s poor neighbors.”
Ginny giggled at the memory. She pulled her wand out of her hair and reduced all of her boxes. She opened a small trunk and placed the boxes inside. She was planning to arrive at night so that no unsuspecting Muggles would be perplexed by her single trunk.
She walked down the hall and knocked softly on the door.
A middle aged wizard of rotund stature answered the door.
“Miss Weasley,” he said cheerfully. “Leaving today then?”
“Yes, sir,” she replied. “Here is my key.”
She handed him the small scrap of metal.
“Thank you, Dear. We sure are going to miss you around here,” he said brightly.
“I’ll miss you too Mr. Freeneman,” Ginny said with a smile.
It was true, though. She really would miss him. He had been a great landlord.
“Goodbye, then,” he said.
Ginny nodded in agreement and made her way down the steps to the entrance. She walked out into the morning sunrise.
She made her way briskly to the apparation point. It was a crisp morning, and the commuters were already all bustling about. She clutched the trunk tightly and began the hour long apparation.
