Meeting Faith and a Flashback

Disclaimer: I own Nothing!

Chapter 4

Three weeks had passed since the attack. Hermione felt guilty for the ultimatum she gave Draco that night in St. Mungo's. He looked so sad and heartbroken. She also took notice that he respected her wishes to give her some space. Hermione decided to stay with Ginny at the burrow, and was surprised that Blaise was living there also. They explained to her that they had gotten together shortly after her and Draco had. They told her how much he cared for her and how he professed his love for her infront of the whole school. And showed her pictures of their small intimate wedding. But they didn't tell her about Faith because the Healer said too much information would overwhelm Hermione. She was so fustrated that she couldn't remember these memories. She wanted too. She wanted to know how Draco had won her over.

Ginny suggested she work at th Preschool with her and help teach the younger kids. She hoped she would notice Faith and figure out eventually that Faith was her daughter. The Healer thought it was a great idea, a way to jog her memory without being told too much information.

Hermione started her job on a crisp October day. The children were excited to have new friend to play with. They were from the ages of 3 to 5. But one little girl stood out to Hermione. She was sitting in the library, reading a book. She has silver blonde ringlets that flowed down her back. She looked familiar, but could'n put her finger on it. Hermione walked over to the little girl and knelt down. Ginny was quietly watching this from the side of the classroom. When the little girl noticed someone was kneeling next to her, she loed up from her book and smiled.

"Hi. I'm Faith." she said in the sweetest voice Hermione had ever heard.

"Hello Faith, my name is Hermione. May I ask what book you reading?" Hermione said to Faith.

"The little Mermaid. It's my favorite muggle book. I think Aunt Ginny looks just like Ariel. Uncle Blaise looks like Erik. Did you know I met the Merperople who live in the lake near Hogwart? Daddy took me last week." she said

"No I didn't know that, but I did see them in my 4th year at Hogwarts, during the Tri Wizard Tournament." replied Hermione.

"So why is 'The Little Mermaid ' your favorite book? Is it because it reminds you of Ginny amd Blaise?" Asked Hermione.

"No" replied Faith as she shook her head. "It's because no matter how different Ariel and Erik were, the love they felt for eachother, withstood the evil of the sea witch and with the help of her friends, broke the spell that had been cast on Erik. Love is the strongest power of all. It can beat anything" she said smiling.

Faith knew what she was doing. The story was reflecting her mother's and fathers life. They were two different people who fell in love and were now fighting a battle with her mothers memory and Hermione needed to let Draco's love in her heart in order for her to remember.

Hermione was impressed. This little girl was very smart. Especially for a three year old.

"Wow. That was very well spoken" said Hermione. "Do you have a favorite wizarding book?" asked Hermione

"Of course. Hogwarts, A History . "'I've only read it twice, but I always have time to read it on a rainy day snuggled up by the fire" she said happily.

"Wait, you can read?" asked a stunned Hermione.

"Yes, I taught myself how to a few months ago" she said as she got up and put the book away. She then went to a table and started to draw.

Hermione got up and walked over to Ginny who was tending to two children who were fighting over who got to fly on the toy broom.

"Ginny, that little girl, Faith, why does she seem familiar to me?" she asked.

"I don't know Mione, but she is smart. She could give you a run for your money." Ginny said smartly.

Hermione had thought about what Faith had said, about love being the strongest power. Maybe she should give Malfoy a chance. Get to know him again. Maybe it would help bring back her memory. She decided she would owl him later.

A few minutes after Faith had sat down to draw, she jumped up with her picture and ran to Hermione.

"Look what I drew!" she said as happiness danced in her chocolate brown eyes. The picture was a girl and boy riding on the back of a unicorn. A sharp pain ran through Hermione's head. Darkness came over her as she fell to the ground.

*Flashback*

Hermione was walking down the the dark hall with Malfoy. They had prefect duty for the first time that year. Secretly, Hermione had a crush on Draco since she hit him in their third year. She was probably the only girl to hit him, and that made her proud. He was goregeous. He was tall and muscular and his blond locks fell over his grey-blue eyes. She relized she was falling for her worst enemy.

They continued to walk in silence fro a while until he broke it.

"Ok, Granger, I've been thinking. Seeing we have to work together can we at least be civil towards eachother?" he asked with no emotion in his tone.

" I suppose." she said quietly.

Draco stopped in his tracks and turned to Hermione, gazing his eyes into hers. For the first time ever she saw a flicker of happiness, real happiness.

"Thank you, it means alot to me. I know you probably won't go with this but, I was hoping we could be friends. I know I was cruel and evil and incredibly horrible to you and your friends. I know you can't froget, but I was hoping for forgiveness." he said in a small voice.

"Why do you want to be friends with me and want my forgiveness, Malfoy?" she asked sternly.

" I had the whole summer by myself to think. My father's in Azkaban. He can't control me anymore. I started to look at people past their blood lines and found that some of the most wonderful people are half-blood and muggle borns." he said gesting to her.

"I'm sorry. For the name calling, the provoking fights, for everything. No one deseves it, especially because of stupid blood lines." he said in a sincere voice.

Hermione was taking in what she just heard. She could tell by his actions, and she could feel, that he was being sincere.

"Ok, I'll give you a chance. I forgive you, but I won't forget" she said in a softer voice. They came to the end of a hall where a large portrait of a boy and girl riding a unicorn stood. They both looked at it in awe.

"How much you want to bet that next year, this is where we'll be living as Head Boy and Head Girl?" Malfoy asked.

"I don't have to bet, I know." she said happily.

After she said this, Draco slipped his hand into hers. She intertwinded her fingers with his, and both of them looked up at the portrait, knowing that next year they would be Head Boy and Girl, possibly more.
