Chapter 5

Snape’s Torment Begins:

Day1: The Great Hall

During dinner, the student body was in the Great Hall eating dinner. Every chair at the High Table was filled with all the teaching staff including Snape.

“Are you ready Harry?” whispered Hermione, but all poor Harry could do was nod yes. “Good, here we go!”

She burst through the doors of the Great Hall and yelled, “Professor Snape! Professor Snape! I caught him! I caught Harry Potter just like you wanted sir!” she was struggling, dragging something behind her.

Everybody in the Great Hall stood up to see what or whom she was dragging in and burst out laughing when they saw Harry completely tied up andged.ged. She somehow managed to drag him to the High Table as the professors either looked at her in shock or were laughing, except for Snape who wanted to strangle her, but was smiling instead. He decided that since she was not going to give up, he was going to play along with her.

“Well done Miss Granger,” he said in a deep, silky drawl, “Just as I requested.” He walked around to the front of the High Table and took the rope she had been dragging Harry by. “I will take him from here,” and he proceeded to drag Harry out of the Great Hall through a side door.

Hermione looked at Ron who was just as surprised and scared for Harry and she quickly walked over to him.

“Oh gods! What have I done?” she asked.

“Oh Hermione, if Snape doesn’t kill Harry, Harry is going to kill you!” gasped Ron as they both stared at the door he had been drug through. “Come on!”

They both ran through the door to save Harry, catching a glimpse of Snape’s black ropes rounding the corner with Harry behind him. Running as fast as they could, they came to a sudden halt when they rounded the corner because Snape and Harry were gone. They ran down a few more corridors, but they were empty too.

“What do we do now?” panicked Ron.

“He won’t kill Harry! I know that much, but I am afraid of where he might leave him,” said Hermione. “Let’s go back to the Great Hall and see if Ginny and the others will help looking for him.”

While walking back into the Great Hall, Ron grabbed Hermione by the sleeve and pointed to the High Table. Snape had returned and was eating his dinner. They looked at the Gryffindor table, but Harry was still gone.

Making their way over, Ron asked, “How long has Snape been back?”

“About two minutes,” said Ginny, “Where’s Harry?”

“We don’t know,” said Hermione, “We need help looking for him.” About ten Gryffindors stood up and followed Hermione and Ron out of the hall. After thoroughly searching the castle, they went outside to search the school grounds.

“LOOK!” cried Semus, “ON THE NORTH TOWER!” Everybody looked up and saw Harry dangling by the rope Snape had been dragging him by.

“Oh gods!” cried Ron as he drew his wand and pointed at Harry.
Hermione pulled his arm down and asked, “What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know, but we need to do something!” pleaded Ron.

“RELASHIO!” they heard and saw a red spark that had been cast fly toward Harry, but missed him by a few feet. Everybody spun around to see Snape smirking. Again he aimed his wand and yelled, “RELASHIO!” and this time his aim was closer.

“ARE YOU CRAZY!” yelled Hermione.

Snape smiled as he aimed one more time and yelled, “RELASHIO!” this time hitting the target dead center as Harry fell to the ground.

“NOOOOO!” the Gryffindors screamed as they ran in the direction he had fallen. On their way there, Harry had just walked out of a side entrance of the castle, stopping everyone dead in their tracks.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

“Harry! But - but - but - ” was all Ron could say.

“Where have you been?” asked Hermione.

“In the kitchens. Snape said to stay in there until the wards he placed were dropped and then I could leave,” he looked at their shocked faces, “Why?”

Hermione gave him a big hug and they explained to him what had happened. Harry explained that Snape had taken a pan from the kitchens and transfigured it into a lump with black hair. Finally after everyone calmed down, they had a good laugh, but this made Hermione more determined to torment Snape.

Day 2: Double Potions Classroom

The Gryffindors and Slytherins were filing into the classroom when they noticed a very worn child’s teddy bear sitting on Snape’s desk and they began to snicker. Snape stormed in and the teddy bear immediately began to speak in a child’s voice:

“My name is Fuzzy Wuzzy and I belong to Little Sevvie Snape. He plays with me and cuddles with me every night and holds me when he is scared. We brew potions together because he is too mean to have friends, but I still love him.”

Snape’s pace quickened as he drew his wand and hexed the bear into nothing but fluff that was now floating down, landing on the students.

Hermione stood up quickly and placed her hands on her hips, “Severus *snort* Snape! What would your mother say?” she yelled in a very stern voice. He just glared at her as he continuing to teach his class.

Hermione looked at Ron and Harry, puzzled, because he did not even take off points.

The class immediately began to brew their potions while Snape remained on the opposite end of the classroom, hoping to avoid any more annoyance from Hermione. He spotted Goyle trying to add the liquefied beetle dung instead of the powdered spider legs.

“MISTER GOYLE!” Snape stormed over to him and stood directly in front of the scared student, ready to yell.

“Sic ‘em Severus!” cried Hermione and the class started laughing. He glared at her effortlessly gliding through the rows, never breaking eye contact.

“Miss Granger,” he began in a lethal hiss, “I have tolerated your shenanigans long enough!”

Hermione let out a loud yawn, stretched her arms, and sighed, looking very bored.

“Sorry Severus, but the thrill is gone. You just don’t scare me anymore,” she said as she sighed again showing her disappointment.

“MISS GRANGER!” his voice echoed through the classroom and down the hall.

“We have talked about your temper,” she said calmly, “You need to take a timeout. Sevvie, go face the wall.”

“GET THE HELL OUT OF MY CLASS AND DON’T EVER COME BACK!” the veins on his forehead were pulsing as Hermione tediously collected her books and placed them in her bag. Slowly walking to the door, she turned around and smiled at him with a mischievous grin.

“Are you cheating on me?” she asked him hearing the class gasp.

“What?” he yelled shocked by her question.

“You didn’t assign me a detention so I figured you were planning on keeping company with someone else,” she said casually, winking at him before she left.

On the other side of the potion’s door, Hermione stood, shocked about what she had done, ‘Shit! I just got kicked out of potions,’ she thought, trying to figure out what she needed to do next.

“Miss Granger, may I have a word with you?” asked Dumbledore who suddenly appeared next to her.

“Yes sir,” Hermione followed him into an empty classroom waiting for the lecture to come.

“Miss Granger, I have been monitoring your daily activities in Double Potions,” he began smiling at a blushing Hermione, “And I have to say that I have not been that entertained in a long time!”

“Sir?” she questioned.

“You are well aware of Severus’ medical needs and I know that you offered to help him brew the potion. Even if he does not admit it, he needs your help Miss Granger. I told him that until he is ready to accept your offer, he is not allowed to take off points or give you detention. I did this because I was well aware that you were going to make his life miserable until he caved in, am I correct?”

“Yes sir,” she smiled.

“You are doing a magnificent job!” he chuckled, “Normally, I would have put a stop to all of this from day one, but Severus’ condition is worsening and will eventually kill him,” his voice was more serious now. “Hermione, I have talked to the doctors at Saint Mungo’s hospital, but they claim that it is impossible to restore nerves. We need your abilities and I need you to understand that no matter what the out come of this is, your every effort will be appreciated and you are in no way to blame yourself if a cure is not found. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes sir,” said Hermione felling a chill running down her spine as she realized the seriousness of the whole situation.
“Do you have any questions?”

“No sir, but Professor Snape did just kick me out of his class, telling me not to come back and - ”

“And he will let you back in,” smiled Dumbledore, “Or he will have to personally tutor you one-to-one in his dungeons every night!”

“Thank you sir,” she said. He nodded and they both left.
