Chapter Five: Quiet in the Library!
Harry opened the doors to the library, instantly regretting it. As soon as he walked through the doors, he caught sight of a shock of white blonde hair. He should have known that the library was one of the Slytherin's half-times. After all, he was one of the top students in this school.
He ignored the Slytherin, who was talking to Madame Pince. He watched the boy out of the corner of his eye as he continued to walk to the location of Ron and Hermione.
Harry flung himself into an empty seat, huffing out a short breath of air. He eyed his two friends. "You guys don't have any more bad news; do you?"
Hermione blinked, glanced to the red-head searching the shelves beside her. "No...Actually, we don't have any news."
"Well, that's good," Harry replied, retrieving his parchment, quill, and ink bottle. "Say, Hermione...What do you know about Veela?"
She flipped a few pages in her book, pushed back her bushy hair, and looked up at the emerald eyed boy. "Why do you ask?" she questioned suspiciously.
Harry scooted forward, not sure if he should tell his friends about what had happened. "Well, you see....I'm kinda..."
"He's my mate," he heard Draco say from behind him.
Harry and Ron jumped, the red-head dropping the books he was carrying. He drew out his wand, aiming it at the blonde as he took a position beside Hermione. "Back off, Ferret Face, or I swear I'll hex you."
Draco waved a careless hand, sitting next to Harry, ignoring the brunette's discomfort. "And risk barfing slugs yourself? I think not."
Hermione rested her hand on the angry red-head's arm. "What do you want, Malfoy?"
Draco smirked, crossing his arms. "At the moment," he glanced at Harry suggestively before his eyes drifted back to Hermione, "nothing comes to mind. But if I think of something, I'll let you know."
Harry let his head hit the table with a groan. "What is it with you? Do you take pleasure in annoying me?"
Malfoy shrugged. " Sometimes. I just think you look so darn cute all flustered."
Hermione watched their exchange with unblinking eyes. She held Ron in an embrace to keep him from knocking Malfoy flat on his ass. Wait..."Oh, my God!" she gasped. "How did it happen?!"
Harry raised his eyes to her. "How did what happen, 'Mione?"
She made a few gestures with her hands, motioning to him and Draco. "This... Veela thing! How did you end up with him?"
Draco arched an eyebrow. "I'm not entirely sure how I got stuck with him...He just kind of called out to me."
"NOT YOU!" the others hissed as quietly as angrily possible.
Ron glared at Malfoy before turning his eyes to Harry. "You best tell me what the hell is going on before I hex this ferret. Afterward, I want you to cast an obliviation spell in me."
Harry bit his lip. "I don't know how it happened. He," Harry muttered, pointing to Draco, "did something to me."
Ron tried jumping across the table, only to have his girlfriend push him into a chair. "Sit, stay, be good." She turned snapping chocolate eyes to the Malfoy heir. "What exactly did you do, Malfoy?"
Draco's silver-blue orbs flashed. "I didn't do anything to him, Granger." He gritted his teeth. "I'm part Veela, and something about Potter connects me to him." He gulped, knowing exactly what that something was. "Look, I'm accepting this." He fisted his hands, knowing that soon he would be doing more than simply accepting. "Now, because of Potter being my mate, I'd like to set a few ground rules."
Hermione rolled her eyes. "But of course. Please, do tell us how you plan to destroy Harry's life further."
The blonde emitted an animalistic growl, earning sharp 'Hush!' from the librarian. He bit down on his rant, settling for talking through his teeth. "I don't think any of you fully understand the concept. He's my mate. If he's hurt, it affects me as well. I am the dominant partner in this relationship. If I fuck up, and he gets hurt, the blame is mine, and I want neither."
Hermione gave him a small smirk. "I knew that would get you to confess a few things," her eyes glittered, letting him know just how much she knew. "Come on, Ron; I have to help you with that essay." With that, Hermione rose, making her way to the door.
"What essay?" Ron asked, hurriedly following his girlfriend. "'Mione?"
Draco sighed, placed his head in his hands. Trust Hermione Granger to deal such a low blow. If Harry had noticed that he had just confessed...more than he should, the brunette didn't look it. Maybe he was just waiting for Draco to inform him of what his friend had meant.
His mate issued a sigh, putting his forehead to the table. "Are you happy?"
Draco glanced at him. "If you're asking if I'm happy about you being my bonded, I've accepted the fact. If you're asking if I'm happy for making you feel miserable..." he bit his lip, chewing on it for a moment. "It affects me slightly. It doesn't give me pleasure, but it doesn't pain me...It just kind of nags."
Harry nodded, sighed. "We're going to have to reach an agreement, aren't we?"
The blonde put his head next to Harry's. "Potter...Veelas have to win their mate over. We never have another partner, and if our mate rejects us, we slowly go insane. I'm not saying that I'll be your dream lover, but I have to appease you to some extent, or go crazy. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?"
Harry cheeked the table, searching the blonde's silver-blue orbs. "You're not going to force yourself on me; are you?" His voice was barely a whisper as he spoke, quickly averting Draco's gaze.
Malfoy stared bewildered at his mate's downcast face. He was serious; he truly thought that Draco would push him to do something unwillingly. "Potter...Look at me."
Harry shook his head, scooting away from the table, putting a small distance from him and the Slytherin. Draco could see the emotions and pent up tears in the Gryfindor's eyes.
Blaise's words from earlier came back to him. Now was the time to show his other side. He sank to his knees in front of his green-eyed beauty, clasping on of his hands tentively. "Potter, you have a lot to learn. I'm not always a cold and heartless bastard. You only know one side of me, and if you're willing, I can show you who I am in truth."
He lifted the Gryfindor's head two fingers. "Even if I could force you into a bond, I wouldn't. I may be a Slytherin, but no one deserves to go through what I've gone through."
Harry searched his mate's face. "You've..."
Draco smiled softly. "When we've reached an understanding, I'll open up to you." The blonde sighed. "I know that we're kind of in an awkward situation, but you really have no idea what's happening to you. Potter, I think..." He stopped suddenly, rising to his feet. He tilted his raven-haired partner's head, examining him. "Have you...gotten paler?" he asked, slightly worried. "You look kind of sick. Are you feeling okay?"
Harry swatted his hands away. "I'm fine, Malfoy; I'm just stressed out. Why the hell are you fretting?"
Draco put a soft grip on the boy's neck, farther allowing him to examine the Gryffindor. "Smile."
The green-eyed boy put a hand to Draco's wrist. "Let go, Malfoy."
"Smile," the blonde commanded. "I need to see something."
The grip on his wrist tightened. "Let me go, say please, and I just might be good."
Malfoy rolled his eyes, releasing the other. "You are so stubborn ."
Harry took to the childish gesture of sticking his tongue out.
"Careful," the blonde warned with a chuckle. "If you're not, that tongue of yours might be in a tight spot."
Harry's playfulness jumped out a window. "Do anything weird, and I'll bite you." He gave a toothy smile. "How's that for propaganda?"
Draco leaned forward, taking the opportunity to gander at his mate's teeth. "Did you grow fangs?" he questioned.
The Golden Boy put a thumb to his forming canines. "They feel normal."
"They don't look it....they're still tiny, but...I think you should go to the infirmary."
Harry pulled a face. "Why would I do that?"
Draco gave his mate an aggravated glare. "I think you might be some kind magical being."
"I'm a Wizard; does that count as magical?" the Savior asked sarcastically.
The blonde growled. "Potter, I'm serious! I think you may be a...a Vampire," Draco finished uneasily.
"Do what?"

"I'm completely human!" he shrieked. "Let me go! Let me go, now, damnit!"
Draco sighed, sitting up to speak with Madame Pomfrey. "I want him checked."
She furrowed her brow. "Whatever for, Mr. Malfoy? He seems perfectly fit if he can fend you off...barely."
