CHAPTER 4
After the rite was completed the minister of magic and the head of magical law enforcement left the two former enemies alone and went about their day. Before taking his leave Rufus turned to Harry “remember to come by the ministry next Monday Mr. Potter to speak with the Daily Profit and be briefed by our task force concerning plans to rid our world of You-Know-Who and his Death Eaters once and for all.”
“I’ll remember Minister. Thank you once again for entertaining my request to invoke the most ancient of our laws.”
“No problem at all Mr. Potter. Thank you for agreeing to help the ministry. Have a happy birthday and try to fit some fun in among all the business that you need to do today.”
“I’ll try Minister. Good day to you.”
Rufus gave one final nod to Harry, completely ignoring Lucius, before apparating back to the ministry to get on with his day.

Once they were alone, Harry turned and looked at Lucius once more. “Well Lucius are you ready to go; we have quite a bit to do today. I would like to get some breakfast before heading to the bank, are you hungry or have you already eaten?”
“I am ready whenever you are. I have not yet had anything to eat and could do with some breakfast as well. However, you do not need my permission to eat or to leave; I must follow your orders now” Lucius replied with only the slightest hint of bitterness.
Harry sighed at Lucius’ words. “While that is true Lucius, I want to make one thing perfectly clear right now. The main reason I had you released is so that you could help me save the wizarding world from your former master, and from itself. I would rather think of you as an associate or mentor, not a slave. I do not now, nor have I ever, approved of one person owning another. However, that said, I did have to let the minister think that I would control your every move in order to agree to your release,” Harry said this with a sly smile making Lucius wonder if the boy would not have done well in his former house. His musings were cut short when Harry continued to speak.
“While you cannot escape or lie to me, I do not want you to be subservient to me or anyone else, ever. I want you to be an advisor and teacher, not a slave,” Harry stated boldly. “Does that make sense?” This last question was spoken in a very quiet voice and downcast eyes, almost as though he were asking himself the question instead of Lucius.
Lucius could not be more pleased with this turn of events. He and Harry both wanted the same thing; for him to help the boy achieve his goals and destroy the Dark Lord. But why would Harry Potter want that of him? Did he not go to his friends for advice? The way he meekly asked if his statement made sense reminded Lucius that the man in front of him was still young and looking for approval and understanding which he had probably never received growing up with his muggle relatives. It also made Lucius want to embrace Harry and murmur that of course it made sense and then ravish that innocent looking face. But he knew he could not do that, at least not yet.
Lucius suddenly realized that Harry would always be forced to act the part of popular, outgoing, hero. The wizarding world would never accept anything else from their savior, not until the Dark Lord is destroyed, and probably not even then. He could not imagine someone this young being so mature in mind and spirit. It touched him deeply. He swore to himself that he would do his best to lessen the burden that this young man had been forced to carry his entire life; maybe then he would deserve even being able to associate with someone with a soul as pure as Harry’s. Throughout everything he had been through Harry had remained pure of heart and had not turned evil, as the Dark Lord had done under slightly less strenuous circumstances. He would make it his sole purpose in life to see that Harry maintained that purity for it truly is a rare and beautiful sight.
When Lucius replied it was with a small, warm smile gracing his handsome face and a new sense of determination in his eyes and heart. “Yes it does make sense, master; but I do have a few questions. What matters could you possibly want me to advise you in and why are you not going to control my every move? I would think you, of all people, would never want me to see the light of day again.”
Harry too had a small smile on his face after hearing that his beliefs were not completely foreign to the man in front of him. “I want you do advise me in several things. I am the sole heir to the Potter and Black estates and now control the Malfoy estate and I have no sense when it comes to money as I never had any before I found out I was a wizard. I need to make myself look the part of a Lord and influential politician, which is what I must become to protect our world from evil and destroy Voldemort. And I need to learn all of the laws and customs in our society so I can know which laws need to be changed and so the pure-bloods will better accept my help in updating parts of their world. I plan on using all of the resources that the ministry and the wizarding world have to offer to help me kill Lord Voldemort and get my life back. If I have to suck up to the likes of Rufus Scrimgeor and play the happy Golden Boy and Savior of the Wizarding World to do that, then so be it. I don’t want to be plagued by the disease that is your former master any longer than I have to and while I don’t have the skills to kill him yet, I will, and I will need all the help I can get to keep the Death Eaters busy while I do so.”
By the end of his impassioned speech Harry was slightly flushed and was now holding himself straight and tall with an air of righteousness that indeed made him look like the savior of wizarding society. Lucius was overcome with the sheer amount of knowledge that Harry wished to have; but he set that aside as he began to plot how to use this man’s charisma to help him reach his goals. He was also still slightly aroused by the power and passion Harry displayed and the defiant glint in his eyes that spoke to the determination he had to win this war at all costs.
After clearing his throat and unconsciously adjusting his robes he addressed Harry again. “I see. You basically want me to teach you how to be who I was before the Dark Lord came back into power and forced me back into my former role as most trusted servant. I think I can manage that. You are bright, attractive, and have a natural charisma that brings people to you and makes them want to follow you. If I did not know better, I would say that you are acting precisely like the Dark Lord before his fall from grace. He too wanted to save the wizarding world from itself and the muggles that would hunt us down. That, of course, was before he immersed himself so deeply into the dark arts that he no longer remembered that he wanted to help our society and not destroy it.”
After blushing slightly at the complement, the rest of the statement slowly sunk in and enraged Harry greatly. This time he was red with rage and started advancing on Lucius with a dark look in his eyes and his magic flaring and surrounding them both. “I am nothing like that murderer. I would never kill countless people just because they do not agree with me. I want to reform our laws and protect us from muggles and those within our own society that seek their own gain instead of the gain of the larger community. I want to end the hatred of the different species in our world and form treaties with them giving them rights to live their own lives to the best of their ability. I want peace, not blood shed. Do not ever compare me to that mad man again.”
The amount of raw magic swirling around Lucius’ body nearly made him fall to his knees, whether in arousal or fear he did not know. He now knew why the Dark Lord feared this young man. Harry was so enraged that he was losing control of his magic and the display made even his hard fought mask slip slightly in fear of the being in front of him. “I apologize, master. I did not mean to insinuate that you were in any way like the Dark Lord. I merely wanted to warn you that even the best of intentions could be twisted if you are not careful to keep sight of your goals and beliefs.
“I too never wanted to become a murderer. I too want that of which you speak for our world. I was drawn to the Dark Lord by those promises of which you now speak so passionately about. While I am proud to be a pureblood, I know that without new blood our people would die out. Even the Malfoy family has ties to various magical creatures which kept our magic strong and bloodlines true, in a magical sense. I consider you a pureblood as well, since your mother and father were both magical. Your friend, Hermione Granger, while not of magical blood is intelligent and, while not as powerful as you or I in a magical sense, has more power than many in families that have never mingled with those outside of pureblood wizarding families, and I am proud to have her in our society. I, however, can never reveal these beliefs to my former associates or master. I would be killed instantly, without question, as a blood traitor if I were to do so. I must play the part of faithful servant to the Dark Lord and pretend that I believe as he does in much the same way that you are talking of playing your role as ‘Golden Boy’ to achieve your goals; my goal was and is to stay alive and protect those that I love. But as I have found no one that fits into the former category I had to settle with keeping myself alive.”
Harry was deeply embarrassed for over reacting to Lucius’ statement and more than a little surprised that he had revealed that he had no one in his life to love, but decided to let it go for the moment and stored the information for use at a later time. “I’m sorry that I overreacted, Lucius. I just do not like being compared to that lunatic, I have been too many times for my comfort. Perhaps we should go and get some breakfast. I, for one, could use a cup of coffee before I have to go consult with the goblins.” With that Harry pulled out another port key created by the minister, this one to Diagon Alley.
