Explanations

Dumbledore ignored Harry’s coarse language and decided to go on with the explanation. The boys’ increasingly anxious looks and fidgeting had not gone unnoticed by the headmaster and he decided not to point it out. “The bond and Draco’s Veela blood combined created a reaction that is almost identical to the bonding of a full Veela.”

Harry and Draco had both felt a strange burning sensation since the moment Harry had jumped from the bed. It was like fire flowing through their entire bodies and it had gotten worse with each passing second. By the time Dumbledore got to that point in his speech they were both wincing from the pain. Dumbledore decided it was as good a time as ever to break the news to them. “Harry, please go sit next to Draco. You’ll need to be touching.” When Harry didn’t move, only watched him with a look that said something along the lines of ‘you’ve got to be fucking kidding me’ Dumbledore explained. “This is a side effect of the Veela bonding. You and Draco must maintain physical contact or suffer extreme physical pain.”

Harry nodded reluctantly moving to sit next to Draco. With a look that showed just what he thought of the situation, Draco scooted closer to Harry, pressing their legs together. Both boys heaved sighs of relief when the touch immediately stopped the pain. Dumbledore smiled. “Now that that’s taken care of we can continue. As, I said you will need constant physical contact.”

Draco interrupted, as he had been during the entire conversation. “What about when we shower and stuff?”

“Unfortunately, the bond that occurred is for soul-mates so it does not make an allowance for embarrassment. Over time the need for contact will fade.” The boys both looked relieved at that bit of news. “There is one problem. It won’t begin to fade until you have consummated the bond.”

“You mean like…?” Harry trailed off, unwilling to continue the thought.

“Yes, Potty, sex,” Draco drawled. “So basically, I need to fuck Potter and then the need to be constantly touching him will go away?”

“Well, Mr. Malfoy, I would not necessarily put it in that way, but yes. Your rooms have already been prepared and you will be excused from classes tomorrow to rest and to get used to the bond. In your room we’ve provided you with a list of some things we’d like you to do and discuss. It’s for your benefit, so please do not think you can just ignore it. I’ll show you to your rooms unless you have anything else you’d like to ask right now.”

Both boys shook their heads, despite the millions of questions they had. Things such as ‘Why me?’ and ‘How can my soul-mate be someone I hate?’ Dumbledore nodded and stood. Harry stood as well, but as soon as he was away from Draco the pain returned. Hurriedly, Draco stood and grabbed his hand to ease the pain. Dumbledore nodded in approval before leading the boys out of the room. Everyone was in class so, thankfully, they didn’t have to face any questions being asked about why they were holding hands.
As they walked, Dumbledore continued to speak. It seemed that the man had an endless amount of information he felt compelled to share, much to Draco’s displeasure. “So, what do you boys know about Veela mating, exactly?”

Draco didn’t say anything so Harry spoke up. “Not much. I know that they mate for life and that they are very dependant on each other.”

Dumbledore nodded. “Well, then, it seems that this will be an entirely surprising experience for you. Well, as you said, Harry, Veela mate for life. The bonding of a Veela and his or her mate, though, is not complete until it has been consummated.” Both boys visible flinched at the implications of such a thing.

Suddenly, Draco had an idea as to how to get out of being mated to Harry. “Well, what happens if the Veela just doesn’t bond?” he asked, obviously pleased with himself for coming up with something.

Dumbledore frowned. “Once a Veela has begun the bonding process with their mate, there is no turning back. Refusal of the bond, by either party, will result in the death of the Veela. If the Veela’s mate dies, the Veela dies also. Once they have bonded, the same applies to the mate.” Draco scowled, miserable with the knowledge that he was truly stuck with Potter for the rest of their lives.

“Veela are also very possessive of their mates, so please don’t be surprised if you become angry or jealous easily where Harry is concerned. It’s perfectly normal and is to be expected. Tonight at dinner, which you will be eating in your rooms, we will announce the situation to the school. Not to much detail, I assure you. Just enough to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible.”

They finally stopped walking at a portrait of a mermaid on the third floor. Dumbledore turned to them. “Ah, here we are, then.” He smiled at the portrait of the beautiful woman lounging on a rock that was half submerged in water. “Flabbergast.” The portrait swung open and Dumbledore turned back to Draco and Harry. “This is your room. The password is ‘flabbergast.’ Inside are your bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room. The house elves will be delivering your meals to your rooms until you return to classes. Please do not forget that we provided the list of things you are required to do by tomorrow night.” The boys looked officially bored with the man’s longwinded speeches and explanations and he took it as a sign to take his leave. “Have a good day. I’ll see you bright and early for breakfast the day after tomorrow.” With one final nod, Dumbledore turned and began to walk back to his office where he would surely face the wrath of all the people he had asked to leave the hospital wing.

Draco looked to Harry as the stepped inside their new rooms, still holding hands. He gave a cynical laugh and a bitter smile and said, “Well, Potter, I think I finally believe in karma.”

A/N: I continue to end my chapters with cheesy, slightly lame one-liners. When will I ever learn? Haha. Once again, I’m more than grateful for the wonderful feedback from everyone. It’s nice to know that some people are enjoying reading this as much as I’m enjoying writing it.

EDIT: Okay, I had planned on updating this story once more before Christmas. Unfortunately, the next chapter has taken longer to write than I expected. I haven't finished it yet, so don't expect it up until after the holiday. Sorry about that. Merry Christmas!
