Beautiful Soul, Chapter 5

The party ended pretty quickly after the presents were opened. Everyone wished Harry a happy birthday one last time as they departed. The twins, Ginny, Seamus and Dean were going to join Harry at the concert with Ron and Hermione, so they all went back to The Leaky Cauldron together.

“Harry, are you ready yet?” Hermione yelled through the door.

“Keep your shirt on, Mione,” Harry said as he opened the door. He was wearing skin tight black jeans and a forest green t-shirt.

“Wow, Harry! You look great,” Hermione said in awe.

“Do you really think so? I need to look my best since we are going backstage. I can’t believe it. You guys are so wonderful, surprising me with the tickets, and backstage ones at that!” Harry replied.

“Yes, you look wonderful. You will have every male and female lusting over you in no time at all. You look fantastic. Jesse will love you, if he isn’t straight, of course.”

“Ok, now I know you are saying that to make me feel better. Thank you!” Harry pulled her in for a hug.

“Harry, do I have to start watching you around my girl now?” Ron questioned as he leaned on the doorframe.

“Ha! Ha! Very funny, Ron, but you know, I could change my mind. Hermione here does look pretty ravishing tonight. She might make a straight man out of me yet,” Harry, teased his best friend.

Hermione looked over at Ron’s shocked expression and laughed at him. “So, is it time to go yet, or will we have to keep the birthday boy waiting even longer to see the man of his dreams?”

The three went downstairs and said goodbye to Ron’s parents. “Now you kids be good. Stay safe. Don’t talk to people you don’t know. For goodness sake, NO MAGIC! Where are your wands?” Mrs. Weasley mothered as she hugged each and every person there. “Fred, George be on your best behavior. Hermione, PLEASE keep them out of trouble.”

They all went outside and apparated to a safe place in the park. They followed the crowd of people towards the concert area.

“Oh my, don’t they need a room?” Hermione said.

“Ewww, gross! I think my eyes could have been spared that,” Ginny replied hiding her face in Dean’s shoulder.

“As if you haven’t done worse, what is it anyway?” Harry questioned. He was too excited to pay attention to the people around him.

That is when he noticed him. A huge boy his age, apparently sucking tonsils with a girl who looked as if she belonged in some horror story, was all Harry noticed when he heard Ron exclaim, “Hey mate! Isn’t that your cousin?”

“Dudley?!” Harry stared at the startled boy.

“What are you doing here, Harry?” Dudley stammered looking shocked that someone recognized him.

“I came to see the concert same as you. This must be Mary Jane. It is a pleasure to meet you, I have heard so much about you.” Harry replied, ever the gentleman.

“Pleasure to meet you, as well…ummm…” Mary Jane stuttered. She looked at the new boy and wondered how she could end up with him that night, instead of Dudley.

“Harry, my cousin. Does Dad know you are here? He wouldn’t let you come. I know he wouldn’t.” Dudley started complaining. He never did like it when Harry got to have some fun. He also didn’t like the look that Mary Jane was giving Harry.

“Yeah, well that is what I have friends for. You know, they always remember my birthday. Guess what I got this year? Backstage passes!! Can you believe it? I heard the sold out the day the concert was announced, but they managed to get them for us. Aren’t they great?” Harry replied with a grin on his face. He loved shoving it in Dudley’s face that he was getting something so much better than Dudley could even imagine.

Dudley’s face crumbled as Harry finished his speech. Harry knew that every word had struck home with Dudley, making it harder to handle. “Backstage? That is impossible. I tried to get them, but they were all going to specific people already specified by Jesse McCartney.”

“Well, apparently, you just didn’t know the person to talk to, isn’t that right Fred, George?” Harry decided he had enough teasing of his cousin for the night. He still planned on enjoying himself and that meant being as far from his cousin as possible. “I would love to stay and chat longer, but I have a star I have to meet. I hope you have a wonderful time watching the concert! Oh, and it was so lovely meeting you, Mary Jane. I do hope we can meet again someday, perhaps a family reunion or something,” Harry said with an evil grin on his face. Dudley’s face just dropped at the thought of Harry meeting his girlfriend again. Harry smiled one last time and walked off with his friends to the area behind the stage.

“That felt SO good! Finally, I have something over him and he can’t do anything about it. He can’t run to Daddy and he can’t take it away from me! I love it!” Harry said gleefully as he danced along the sidewalk.

“Yeah, it looked like Mary Jane was ready to leave him and come with you, too. Too bad she’s not your type. First backstage passes, and then to steal his girlfriend, that would be classic!” Ron said excitedly.

The gang got to the gate and showed their passes. Harry’s eyes were darting around taking in everything. It was so hectic backstage. People were rushing around. They felt like they could get lost in the crowd and no one would even know they were there.

A manager came over and talked to George for a minute, then walked away. He came back a few minutes later and led them to a secluded tent beside a trailer. He told them to wait there and Jesse would be out to meet them as soon as he finished getting ready.

Harry could hardly contain his excitement. He was about to meet the man of his dreams. He hoped he wouldn’t act too much like an over-zealous fanboy, but this was Jesse McCartney! This is the boy he had fantasized about for a month now.

Everyone settled down in their own little areas to wait for Jesse to arrive. Ron and Hermione were making use of a dark corner. Ginny was sitting in Dean’s lap talking about art. Seamus and the twins were planning all kinds of tricks they could do backstage so no one would suspect a thing. Harry just paced the small-enclosed area.

Without warning the door behind Harry opened up and out walked a godlike creature; messy blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, a smile to melt the sourest heart and such a sweet melodic voice. Harry stopped pacing and just gaped.

“Hi, I’m Jesse. How are you doing?” Jesse asked.

“Um…Hi…um…I’m Harry,” he stammered. The others rushed over to meet the American singer. Hermione and Ginny whispered to each other about his sexy American accent. Hermione could finally see what Harry saw in this boy. If Ron didn’t watch out, she too might develop a huge crush on the boy as well.

“Hi, Harry. It is a pleasure to meet you.” He shook Harry’s hand and went around to everyone else to say hello. While George and Fred had him cornered for a couple of minutes, Harry just kept staring at Jesse, the longing written on his face.

Jesse’s manager gathered everyone together with Jesse to go over some last minute details. They were told where they were going to sit and when they would be allowed to come backstage again.

“Jesse!”

Everyone looked up at the sound of the voice. “Draco!”

“Draco?!” Harry just saw his world crumble. He watched as Jesse went over to Draco and gave him a huge hug. “Figures that he gets all the girls and the guys,” muttered Harry. Everyone else just sat back in stunned silence while the two embraced.

Draco broke out of the hug and looked around. His eyes clashed with Harry’s. “Well, if it isn’t Potter and a gang of Weasels,” he drawled. “Part of your birthday present? Didn’t know the Weasels could afford something so expensive.”

“As a matter of fact is it my birthday present.” Harry glared at the other boy.

“Oh wow! Tension! Maybe this isn’t a good thing after all,” Jesse started.

“Oh no, Jesse. It is just fine,” Draco reassured the boy. “Potter here goes to school with me. For some reason, I have yet to figure out, he does not wish to be my friend. Can you believe the absurdity?”

”Well, maybe that will change tonight, Draco. You two can really get to know each other,” Jesse said. “Wait, you said Potter. Not the Harry Potter you have told me about.”

Harry turned bright red at this comment. Draco walked over to him and put his arm around Harry’s shoulder and said, “Jesse, please let me be the one to properly introduce you. This is Harry Potter, savior of the wizarding world.”

Ron, Fred, and George all jumped up ready to fight Draco, but the look on Harry’s face stopped them. He looked as if he were ready to kill Draco.

“Don’t worry, boys. I promise, I won’t tarnish him by touching him,” Draco said flippantly.

“Oh, wow! It is such an honor to meet you Harry! Wow! A hero in our midst,” Jesse began to gush. “So, Harry, tell me more about yourself. I would love to know all about you.”

“Jesse, it’s time,” his manager yelled over to them. Jesse looked torn between finding out more about Harry and going onstage, but duty beckoned. Everyone followed him out of the tent. The students from Hogwarts were led to the seating area arranged just for them. The seats were perfect, front row, center. The crowd was behind them chanting Jesse’s name.

Somehow Draco managed to get a seat beside Harry. He leaned over and whispered, “I hope you don’t have any plans for my cousin, Potter. He is the straightest person you will ever meet.”

“Why, Draco, jealous someone might get more attention than you?” Harry retorted.

“Not likely. I just don’t want my cousin harassed by the boy who lived to be gay.”

“Oh, please, Malfoy! He looked totally interested.” Harry would have continued, except for the announcement coming through the speakers. Jesse was coming out on stage singing and Harry dismissed the annoying blond beside him. He only had eyes for Jesse.
