Chapter 5

Logan was walking through St. Mary’s orphanage in London. Professor Xavier had gotten a reading from cerebro that a mutant was here and asked Logan and Storm to go pick him up. So here he was looking for this teenager at this orphanage while Storm talked with the Headmistress. Walking through the hall he heard the laughter of a small child coming from a room down the hall and decided to see what was going on. Upon entering the room he saw two children. One a small boy age three or four with messy black hair, bright green eyes, and a small pair of glasses on his face. He was sitting on a bed with another boy who looked about fifteen who was shape shifting into different animals the small boy was calling out.

The two boys never heard any one enter the room they were having too much fun. Jake had been the only person Harry let into his heart after what happened with his parents. Jake saw Harry as the little brother he would never have because his parents were dead. He felt protective over the little boy. The other children were always picking on him because he was small for his age, smart for his age, and had to wear glasses. Jake didn’t care though, he mostly kept Harry inside with him and amused him by changing into different types of animals. For some reason Harry’s favorite animal was a wolf, followed closely by a dog. Those were always the first two animals the boy would ask him to turn into.

At the sound of someone clearing their throat Jake turned back to his human form and put himself between Harry and whoever was at the door just incase they intended to do harm.

Logan saw this and held up his hands to show he meant no harm. Then he introduced himself, “My name is professor Logan and I am a teacher at Xavier’s Institute for Gifted Children. I would like to offer you a chance to attend this school.” He said to Jake. Then he looked at Harry and his heart almost broke. The boy looked so lost thinking Jake was going to leave. I brought up bad memories of all the times he felt alone growing up.

Jake looked excited about this opportunity, he really didn’t want to pass it up, but how could he leave Harry. However, he knew he had to go.

“OK” he said as Harry’s eyes filled with tears.

“Get what you want to take with you packed while I go see how things are going with my colleague and the headmistress.” Logan said, but he intended to do more than that, and left the room.

He arrived at the headmistress’s office just as Storm and the woman were finishing up. When they were done he asked storm to wait outside while he had a word with the headmistress in private. Storm shot him an odd look but left anyways. He sat across from Sister Helen, who had been promoted in the last year, and started to ask questions about Harry. Needless to say he didn’t like what he heard, she told him the reasons his parents gave him up, that he had been there for a year, and how all the children except Jake picked on him.

Then she asked why he wanted to know.

“Well, I was wondering if he was up for adoption.” For some reason he felt a connection to this boy.

Sister Helen looked hopeful at this, she really liked Harry and although she didn’t know the man in front of her she could tell he was a good man, a little rough around the edges, but a good man.

“Yes he is.” She replied. “Are you interested in adopting him?”

“Actually, yes” was Logan’s response. She gave him the paperwork to fill out and pulled some strings as well as called to talk to professor Xavier to see if he could help and because Logan used him as a reference, and within an hour, which was very quick, everything was set and ready to go.

Walking out into the hall he found Storm still waiting patiently for him, which was a little surprising as he was in there along time. He explained the situation to her, needless to say she was more that a little shocked, as this was way out of character for him.

When asked why he decided to do it he said. “just take one look at the boy and if you are still wondering ask again.” And with that he set off down the hall to get their new student as well as his new son.
