Home Wrecker Chapter 5 Hidden Clues

Harry woke the next morning to a warm, familiar body curled in front of him. He stroked the blond hair and offered silent thanks to all the Powers that Be that Draco had survived and found the strength to get home. His next words were pleas to give him wisdom and compassion to get Draco through this and then for stealth to find the abusive culprits, bring them to justice and finally to find their children. Yes, he now thought of all three of Draco’s as theirs.

The blond made a happy sound and stretched as he felt the hand stroking his hair. Inhaling deeply, he took in the wonderful scent of Harry and started coughing. Harry eased Draco up into a sitting position and supported him through the wracking coughing. Finally, the blond indicated to Harry to take him to the bathroom. They made it in, Draco closing the door behind them. Harry turned the hot water on full power in the shower, trying to build up the heat and steam in the bathroom.

Harry transfigured the clothes hamper into a comfortable chair and sat his love in it. “Sweetheart, I’ll be right back. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.” The dark-haired man slipped through the smallest opening of the door he could. Draco slumped back in the chair waiting for Harry. He still wasn’t strong enough to do much on his own. Yet.

Harry lowered himself in front of the fire and called for Madam Pomfrey. He was greeted with different phrases, almost run together. “Well, Harry Potter, took you long enough to call me. Do you know how long we’ve waited to hear from you? You should be ashamed of yourself fro keeping us waiting. Now that I’ve had my say, what may I do for my favorite former patient? By the way, you look much better today then the last time I saw your picture in the paper.” The medi-witch smiled fondly at the former Gryffindor. She knew him as well as he knew himself.

“Poppy, there’s a reason I look better. I slept better last night than I have in five years. I need you to bring your ‘magic bag’ and come through. There is someone here who needs your help. My Draco came home.” Harry’s tears started falling as Poppy squealed in joy, grabbing what she thought she might need quickly.

“Move boy, let me through”.

Harry chuckled and stood up and back, holding out a helping hand to the medi-witch. He began to explain what Draco had told him of his time away. Poppy’s eyes were wide with shock and sympathy by the time he finished with the highlights.

“Mr. Potter, I hope you are wide awake and this isn’t your imagination again. I worry for you.”

The former Gryffindor shook his head and lead her to the bathroom. He opened the door, the steam and heat hit her in the face and she gasped. Making her way in, she moved to the chair. “Draco Malfoy Potter, you are a sight for sore eyes. Now don’t say a word. Harry, carry him to the bed. We’ll take care of you in no time.”

Harry scooped his blond love in his arms, frowning at how truly light he was. Poppy held open the door and watched as Harry carefully made his way into the room and laid Draco on the bed. She moved swiftly to his side, pulling her wand as she went. Muttering spells and shaking her head, she pulled a parchment and quill and wrote furiously.

“Draco, where have you been? I need to know so I can narrow down what is possibly wrong. You have a virus of some kind; it may be environmentally caused. I can heal you, but it would help if I knew where you’ve been.”

The former Slytherin began fidgeting, wringing his hands and bowing his head. Harry climbed on the bed to offer support. Taking the fragile hand in his own, the raven-haired man rubbed it gently. “Its okay love, I’m here. They can’t touch you now or ever again. Tell Poppy what she needs to know to help you.”

“I was” the blond started and stopped. Clearing his throat, he tried again. It started as a faint whisper. “I was taken by boat for a week at least. We left the boat at night and they blindfolded me. I remember sitting on a flying carpet. I would have loved to experience that any other way. It had to be at least two hours before we landed and then through a secure floo.” He stopped again.

Harry had been listening intently for clues. He would figure this out yet. Draco didn’t know how good his description was so far. There were still gaps though. So Harry kissed Draco’s cheek and rubbed his hand some more. He then did what he was forced to do – wait. He’d waited for five years; this would be the easy part.

Poppy sat on the edge of the bed, totally out of her professional character. “Draco, did you ever go outside? Did you see the buildings or the scenery or landscape?”

The blond wiggled on the bed. “Poppy I went out when the Master said I could, where I could and with whom. It was always on the roof of a tall building with high walls. It was always warm and sunny when I went out. I was not permitted near the walls. He told me he was afraid I’d fall and kill myself. He really meant he was afraid I’d jump and kill myself. I do remember hearing the birds singing occasionally and it reminded me of Hogwarts in early spring. Once in a while I could hear a child laughing. I pretended it was my Jocelyn playing in the sun, chasing butterflies through the fields. When I would cry at that thought, he could always tell and would beat me to make me forget. I never let on when I thought I heard a lot of children. I had to be careful, so careful.”

Poppy wiped a tear from one side of the pale face as Harry kissed the other side’s away. The medi-witch knew what a strain this was on the poor man. She wasn’t surprised to hear of Jocelyn, she was the one that had discovered the pregnancy after all. With a sigh, she looked him over again.

“Draco, I’m not sure where you were. I’ll get you started on some potions to help build your body and its natural defenses back up and some to help the cough. The cough has a unique echo; it sounds like something I haven’t heard of for ages, but it was only here, it never spread beyond these islands. It was usually found only in the lowest parts of our world, lower than Knockturn Alley.”

Reaching into her bag, she pulled out several vials, along with another piece of parchment that she wrote on. She handed him three in succession, and watched while he downed them obediently. Turning, Poppy set several more doses on the table beside the bed. “Take these at the exact times I have written down. Get plenty of sleep, eat lightly, drink plenty of pumpkin juice and no strenuous activities. I want you propped up resting, either in this bed or in a chair. I will be back to check on you in the morning unless Harry thinks I need to see you before that. Harry, walk me to the floo once we get Draco propped up and settled.”

Harry quickly placed all of the pillows behind and around his husband for support. Kissing his forehead, the Gryffindor whispered, “I love you. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

The blond nodded and leaned back. He could hardly bear for them to be apart, even those few minutes, after all these years.

Harry and Poppy went to the living room floo. The medi-witch turned and looked at the young man in front of her. “I know what you are thinking Harry James Potter. Right now, he needs you more. Give him some time, you will find your daughter together.”

Harry just looked at her and was beginning to feel mean. “Do you know, could you tell about the other two they took from him? Can you do something for the physical scars? I’m sure it would ease some of his burden if the visible reminders weren’t so blatant. Is there anything we can do to restore his magic to him? The “Master” bound it somehow so the babies could feed off it but Draco couldn’t use it. Please, Poppy, help my Draco.” The medi-witch gathered him close in a hug. She hadn’t seen this tower of strength cry in years and it was breaking her heart.

Patting his back and moving back, she started answering him. “Harry I could give you the salve and have the outside scars gone in a week. He needs to have them seen by the Aurors so when you catch his assailants, they can be dealt with properly. Then we will heal them. I’ll have to research the spells on his magic and see what can be done.” She stepped back from the stressed young man.

Harry held out the ornate urn with the floo powder and Poppy took some, stepped in and was away. Harry put the jar up and went back to his bed.

“You did wonderful telling all that to Poppy. She never asked, but were you ever ill and treated there? If you don’t want to talk now, let’s let it wait until later. Let’s rest now and after we eat something we have can have juice.” Harry called for Lola and asked for breakfast and juices for them. She returned and they tucked into the flavorful food. When Draco finished, Harry gave him his next dose potions, lifted the tray off the bed to the floor and moved over, stretching out with the blond on the piles of pillows.

“Sleep Draco. I’m here and you will start feeling better soon. Let the potions and food work.” Harry kissed him chastely again; both sighed and slipped into the land of slumber.
