AN- Last chapter! Sorry it took an extra day. You may notice that “Gully” is referred to as “Raymond” or “Professor Raymond” in this chapter, because that what Severus and Hermione call him.
Miari- Her brother psychologically abused her, and hit her, but he didn’t sexually abuse her.
Anon- It is kind of where I got the idea. I was at Barnes and Noble, and I saw a book that was the diary of a girl who was taken in and sexually abused by her teacher. That started me thinking about why I found that situation so abominable, but I liked SS/HG. I started plotting out a story about another student/teacher relationship at Hogwarts, but it wasn’t working, and when I read buttercup’s story, the format seemed like a good one to tell this tale in. I almost e-mailed her and asked her for permission, but it sounded weird, “Can I use the idea of a character responding to diary entries?” So I ended up just writing it.
abbi cee- Whoops! I never even thought of the umbilical cord. Poppy can’t throw them out, because the healers are there to help, the ministry officials are investigating why a student gave birth, Dumbledore is there because he’s headmaster, Snape is getting healing potions, the other professors have no purpose, but there’s no one to kick them out. It’s a bit out of control. As far as writing it when Hermione was a student, I just wasn’t comfortable doing that. Hermione is reacting so strongly because she is trying to empathize with Laura, and she just gets caught up.

“Hermione?” Severus queried, worry evident in his voice. He walked to her, and hesitantly performed some cleaning spells that took care of the mess she was sitting in.
Hermione looked up, and saw him. Silently, she handed him the diary, open to the entry she had last been reading. His face immediately closed over, and after he finished the page, he quickly skimmed the next few pages. Hermione sat there, as he rapidly read through the following entries. When he finished, he glanced at her. Her expression was shuttered, and she asked him, voice shaking slightly, “What else does she say?”
“Basically, she continues to talk about how much she loves Professor Raymond, and describes their encounters. She finds out she’s pregnant, he tells her to abort it, she can’t believe he’s saying that, and she hides it. Ackerly finds out, and blackmails her into sleeping with him. The last entry is about her plan to have the baby in secret and then leave it in the hospital wing.”
“Severus… how could he do that? How could anyone do that?”
“I’m not sure which “he” you’re referring to,” Severus snarled, “but I have no interest in determining their motives. The only thing I’m concerned with right now is hexing them into oblivion.”
Hermione nodded, pulling herself together. Sitting here and freaking out wouldn’t help Laura. Taking his hand and giving it a squeeze, Hermione got up, and they left their chambers together.
When they found Professor Raymond, he was busy marking some second year essays. When he saw them, he sat up and smiled charismatically, “Severus! Hermione, what can I do for you?”
Looking at him, Hermione realized how ridiculous her fear had been earlier. Raising her wand, she sent a powerful blasting curse at him. Snape followed her curse with a quick “Accio,” taking Raymond’s wand so he couldn’t defend himself.
After cursing him a few more times, Hermione let Severus bind him, and after ensuring that the ropes were secure, Severus turned to her. “You do know that it is possible he might get off.”
Anger flashed through Hermione’s eyes, and she was about to start ranting when Severus continued, “bearing that in mind, do you want me to kill him?”
Raymond began to thrash against his bonds, as he heard these words. Hermione ignored him, though, and stared at Severus. His eyes were cold, but she could tell he was furious. He would kill Raymond, without a second thought. For a moment, Hermione considered it. He could kill Raymond, then transfigure the body and burn it. Raymond deserved it, and if they let him go to court there was no guarantee he would be sent to Azkaban. For a moment, Hermione considered telling him, ‘Yes, kill him, snuff him out, and end his life.’
But only for a moment. Because it wasn’t worth Severus’ freedom if it were ever found out. So Hermione told him, “No, we’ll let them put him in Azkaban,” but it wasn’t because she felt compassion, it was because she was selfish. To her, Severus’ presence in her life was more important than getting vengeance on this little girl’s behalf. So they wouldn’t kill him, but they did stun him, and take him to the Aurors with the diary.
The Auror that they talked to was youngish, but he seemed competent and he promised to make sure Raymond went to trial. After they sorted that out, Severus and Hermione went to find Stuart Ackerly, and when they did, he confessed. Hermione was all for expelling him, but Severus told her, “I don’t think that’s quite enough.”
So they went down to Severus’ lab, and Severus brought out a black pensive from a hidden room. Hermione waited outside while Severus brought Stuart into the pensive. When they emerged, Severus looked tired, and Stuart was silent. There was a haunted look in his eyes, and he seemed ten years older.
Severus put him in a private room and warded the door, then came back to talk to Hermione. “What did you do to him?” she asked, amazed by the transformation from the brash young man that had sneered boastfully that, “Yeah, I blackmailed her into fucking me,” into the silent and scared young man that emerged from the pensive.
“I made him experience the rape and beating of a young woman that was captured by Death Eaters,” he said heavily. “The problem with Stuart was that he had no empathy. But he’s not beyond hope. Maybe this experience will help him to change his behavior, now that he understands what it is he did.”
Hermione put her arms around him, and held him. They were sitting there, just holding each other, when Dumbledore appeared. “Severus, Hermione…” he addressed them, “we lost Laura.”
Severus nodded; he had known all along that it was the most likely outcome. “What of the baby?” he asked.
“She appears to be fine,” Dumbledore said, “and Kingsley and his wife are looking after her for now.”
“Good,” said Hermione.
“We’ll talk to you tomorrow, Albus.”
“Goodnight, children.”
With that, Albus left, and Severus and Hermione made their way to bed. Quietly, they changed into their pajamas, and got into bed, where he held her until they slept. Nothing was solved, but it made them both feel better. Tomorrow would be hard, but they would be fine.
