Chapter 4: Dueling for a Detention

Duplicity of Friendship- Chapter 4: Dueling for a Detention

Ginny had just finished adding a ground scarab to her simple healing drought. She was quite pleased when it turned the its correct color of puce. Next, she bottled the finished product and took it to Professor Snape’s desk.

Smiling at her lab partner Colin Creevy as they cleaned up their lab space, Ginny watched the rest of the class as they all struggled with the potion. Colin was no help when it came to their potions’ assignments, so Ginny always ended up handling everything.

Thankfully, Professor Snape refused to teach the fifth years anything complex; particularly, when his class was full of Gryffindors and Slytherins. They could easily kill each if given the opportunity. Snape observed his class sadly, “Not a talented one in the bunch with exception of the Weasley girl, of course. Now she was one to watch. She was so like Lily. Lily kept the majority of her gifts hidden away.”

“Oh, yes,” he thought, “Young Miss Weasley was like several of her siblings in his opinion…obviously missorted.” Given his choice he would have preferred for Bill, Percy, the twin Weasleys, and Ginny to be in Slytherin under his watchful eye. These children specifically demonstrated the capacity for guile that made him question Lucius Malfoy’s intelligence about opposing Authur Weasley in the manner that he did. For such a self-proclaimed smooth operator, Authur made Lucius lose his temper passionately. He and Narcissa made many jokes on the subject alone.

“Miss Wealesy!”,snapped Professor Snape, “Your write up for this assignment is unsatisfactory! See me after class. Class dismissed, please leave me in peace.”

The class streamed out the dungeon quickly. Colin left Ginny behind with a look of pity on his face. Ginny merely sat in her seat with a calm look on her face, while the Potions Master stared at the retreating students from the front of the classroom. When the room was empty, Professor Snape snapped his fingers and the door to the dungeons slammed shut and locked.

Ginny stood up and removed the package that she had received earlier from her bag. Her very new and expensive bag, something that had gone unnoticed for sometime. It was a present from her mentor. She had learned a lot from this person. After all one should never waste an education.

She opened up the package in front of Professor Snape. In the package was a note addressed to Professor Snape and another small package addressed to Ginny. Ginny hands Professor Snape his note and she begins to open her package. Her package contains a note and an owl charm with a knut size emerald as its body. Ginny opens the note and it says out loud in Narcissa Malfoy voice:

Dear girl,

I hope you enjoy this little port key. It will transport you directly to the Oubliette. All you have to do is hold and say “the place of forgetting”.

See you later this evening.

All of the best,

Narcissa

Then note melted away elegantly.

Ginny slipped the charm around her neck and asked the Potions Master proudly, “What do you think.”

Professor Snape smiled and said in soft and uncharacteristically, “ It suits you quite well Miss Weasley. I take you will be meet with Lady Malfoy and Mrs. Tonks later.”

“Absolutely!” beamed the teenager. She picked up her bag and turned to walk out of the dungeons. As she was walking she said, “You will be there later, right?”

“Yes, after my meeting with the nosy old man. Miss Weasley, you do need any more of walkabout potion? So you can stay awake tomorrow?” inquired Professor Snape.

She turned around and started walking backwards. “No, however I would appreciate it if you could come up with better detention excuses. I am one of your better students,” sighed Ginny.

“Which makes you a perfect target for a detention”, stated Snape as he stacked a pile papers on his desk. “I imagine that you will make up some vile task for tonight.”

“But of course, your reputation inspires me to no end. Besides, no would believe that you and I going to meet up at a club with Draco Malfoy’s mother. They would send me to St. Mungo’s for a permanent stay,” she giggled.

“True, however I reserved rooms for those two particular gentlemen,” deadpanned Severus.

Ginny stuck out her tongue. “I certain that their accommodations will be below the salt,” she snickered. “Good day,” she chirped and turned back around to leave the dungeons for the Great Hall and her lunch.

“Definitely Slytherin material,” he thought. “And she hides it so well to be a Gryffindor.”

When he was certain of Ginny’s absence, he opened his note from the lovely Narcissa. Tonight was to far away.
