A Hair Raising Experience

AN- Sorry I did not get to post on Friday. I was at home, watching North and South, Book 1. I just love those epic movies. I’m still looking forward to buying the whole set on DVD so I can see what happens to Orry and Madeline. Anyone ever see it? It came out in 1985, but you can rent it practically anywhere. I love the south and all the southern movies, my favorite being Gone With The Wind. I just love the clothes. Oh, and something interesting to add, I was watching my 40th anniversary DVD of Mary Poppins, and in the credits I noticed that the actress who plays the maid in the Banks’ home has the first name (her real one) of Hermione. Cool, huh? Oh, and if anyone has some spare Sweet Valley High books around, or know someone who does, I’ll gladly buy them from you. Also, if anyone has an original copy of Petals On The Wind by VC Andrews (it will have a cutout cover that lifts off) I will pay you $10 for it. I’m not kidding. Now thanks to all my wonderful, fantastic readers. Lightgoddess, yep it’s true. She can’t go home ever again. I wish that were me! Lioncourt (is that from Interview With A Vampire cause that’s Lestat’s last name) I’m glad you liked the shirt and that remark. I think that that’s something that Harry or Ron would say about Snape.Tic Tac, I wish I could go to Hogwarts too. Lorett, I plan on making Draco a little nicer. He’s going to have a love interest soon. Dahlias, yes this is a SS/OFC. It is weird, but I like stuff that’s unusual. It’s nice not to read the same old things over and over again. LariLee, there’s more funnies to come, enjoy! Jenn, you’re not old! I know, I love SVH too. It’s kinda funny how all the things from when I was a kid (mid-80’s) like Rainbow Brite and Care Bears are popular again. Madelyn (nice name!) thanks. I’m glad you like her. I’m trying not to make her a Mary Sue, and more like a person who isn’t perfect and had flaws. Hope everyone enjoys this! Oh, by the way I noticed as I was about to post that I put Lucius Malfoy in the story, so let\'s just just say that he\'s out of Azkaban, all right?

Oh, by the way, if you want to be e-mailed when I update, then leave your e-mail adress in your reviews.

Albus raised his eyebrows and stared at Severus.

“Voldemort wishes you to find a wife? How much time did he give you?”

“Two weeks. That’s not nearly enough time to find someone suitable, let alone get her with child. What does he expect? That I will marry and bed a student?” Snape’s voice became panicked as he spoke.

“I do not know what Voldemort’s intentions are. But you must obey. I however, cannot have you marry a student. I suggest you think about a woman you know who would do such a thing for you. Perhaps an old school friend?” Albus suggested carefully, knowing full well that Severus had no friends that did not bear the Dark Mark already, or were married to Death Eaters.

“That is not possible.” Snape said shortly. “I only know one woman who is not on Voldemort’s side, and she.” He stopped abruptly, not wanting to finish a thought.

“Ask her Severus. I’m sure she will at least hear you out. After all, Miss Lynch seems quite taken with you.”

Severus growled, slammed his teacup on Albus’ desk and stalked out of the room. He heard Albus laughing as he walked down the staircase. Bloody Gryffindor know-it-all, he thought as he made his way to the Potions room. Snape would gladly love to tell Albus to go suck on a lemon drop. He wondered how Jessica was doing in her Transfiguration class. Minerva had told him that they were working on body transfiguring today. She’d probably end up back in the Hospital wing or worse with great big pig ears or wings sprouting from her back.

In the class, Jessica sat in between Harry and Hermione awestruck as she watched Professor McGonagall transfigure her caramel colored hair into shockingly red color that rivaled Ron’s. She then turned it pale blond and then back to her real color. Jessica felt her mouth drop open as she applauded with the rest of her class. Professor McGonagall was tucking her hair back into its severe bun as she paired off the students. Jessica was placed with Harry and Neville was paired with Hermione. Minerva watched carefully from her desk as the raven- haired girl held her wand tightly while Harry turned her dark locks into tightly spiraled coffee colored curls. She thought of last night when Albus had called her into his office and explained about Miss Lynch and her curious arrival at Hogwarts. She was curious as to see if the girl could do magic, as she was a Muggle. True, most Muggles did have some sort of magical ability. Minerva marked Harry’s grade down for the day and waited with baited breath as Jessica raised her wand at Harry’s hair.

Jessica felt her heart pounding as she whispered “Follicus” at Harry’s messy mop. It stood straight on end as it turned a lovely shade of violet. Her eyes widened at what she saw and she quickly covered her mouth to keep from laughing.

“What?” Harry asked, not noticing the stares from his fellow classmates, most of who were giggling quietly.

“I’m sorry, Harry.” Jessica said. She pulled a mirror from her pocket and handed it to Harry. He took it and looked at his hair, and a great big smile spread across his face, much to Jessica’s relief. Harry handed the mirror back, thinking in his head that Jessica could have made him bald for all he cared. In his eyes, she could do no wrong.

A shriek filled the room, followed by a burning smell. Jessica watched as Hermione, now bald in spots while the rest of her hair smoked, frantically trying to fix her hair. Neville looked as if he wanted to sink into the floor.

Professor McGonagall rushed up to Hermione, waving her wand as the smoking stopped. She looked at Neville, feeling a loss for words. She shook her head at him, and told him to bring Hermione to Madame Pomfrey.

“Have Poppy get a hair restoring potion from Professor Snape.” She said, walking over to Harry, her eyes twinkling as she eyed Harry’s new hair.

“Not bad for a first attempt, Miss Lynch. If you were in a house, I’d award it points. If you can change it back, I will award 10 points to whatever house you wish.”

Jessica thought quickly of the reversing charm words. Her mind flipped through the pages of her books until she remembered the words.

“Finite Incantatem” she said, watching Harry’s hair turn back to its normal color.

“Very good. Now, which house do you wish to award points to?” McGonagall asked.

“To Gryffindor” Jessica replied as the class around her cheered. Minerva dismissed the class, happy that Miss Lynch had not hurt anyone.

“Wow, that was cool” Harry said as he walked up the hallway. “You’ve never done magic, before, have you?”

Jessica thought carefully. “What makes you say that?”

‘Oh, just the look on your face.” Harry replied. They headed for the Quidditch pitch, and she became panicked.

“I’m supposed to go to Herbology, with Hermione. Sev. I mean Professor Snape said so.”

“Oh, that’s been cancelled, and we don’t have Care Of Magical Creatures and Potions until after lunch. So I figured I’d show you a quick flying lesson.” Harry said proudly as they approached the field. A few others were flying around the Quidditch pitch, including Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, Ron and Ginny.

Harry went to retrieve his broom and came back to find Malfoy talking to Jessica. She seemed uncomfortable, though, playing with the sleeve of her dress. Harry dropped his Firebolt and ran over.

“Bugger off, Malfoy” he demanded.

“Manners Potter. I’m just asking Miss Lynch if she wants to have dinner with my family tonight.” He turned back to Jessica. “As I was saying, Professor Snape was invited long ago, and I’m sure he would be delighted to escort you. If not, I will.” Draco kissed her hand. Jessica itched to slap the young boy, but figured that Albus would be unhappy if she did so.

“Are you sure your father would be okay with this. I know he’s not much for Muggles” Jessica asked, concerned.

“Oh, Father will be quite all right with it. He does understand beauty, and you seem to have plenty of it. So what do you say?”

“Yes, I’ll come.” She said quietly, seeing Harry’s face turn red, then white. He walked back over to his broom and picked it up. Jessica stood as Harry came back.

“Why’d you say yes?” his voice was tight, and he sounded as if he was going to cry.

‘Oh, Harry. Don’t worry. It’s not that I like Draco, I just have my own reasons for being nice.” She gave him a wink and Harry winked back. He figured that she was probably a member of the Order, and a spy, like Snape. He tried to see if she bore the Dark Mark, but he couldn’t see anything past her wrists. Besides, she was too pretty to be a Death Eater. If she were, she’d be as arrogant and mean as Snape and probably as greasy too.

Draco watched from afar as Harry stalked over to Jessica. He had owled his dad as soon as he left breakfast and told him all that he knew, that she had come from Snape’s personal rooms. The gossip had been that she had spent the night with Snape. His father demanded that he get her to come to dinner. Lucius, smitten with the lovely description that Draco had given him, ordered a gown to be sent to Hogwarts for Jessica to wear that night. After all, he could not have a Muggle dressed like a pauper if she was to be seen at Malfoy Manor. Draco had used a magical mirror and showed his father what Jessica looked like. Lucius was quite pleased and wanted her for a little bit of fun after dinner.

‘So what do I do, Harry?” Jessica asked nervously as she stood next to the broom.

‘You hold out your hand and say up”

“I’d rather not, Harry. I’m really afraid of heights.”

‘Well you just climb on the back then. I’ll hold on to you if you promise not to go to far.” Jessica asked.

Harry grinned. The thought of Jessica holding onto him while he zoomed through the air was most thrilling. The broom wouldn’t be the only stiff thing around.

Jessica headed down to the dungeons for her Potions lesson. She figured that it couldn’t be too hard, kind of like cooking. Care of Magical Creatures, for the most part had been boring. She wasn’t much of an animal person to begin with, and seeing those creatures had not helped any. She had spent the remainder of the class drawing on a spare bit of parchment. Hagrid had given her a wink along with a smile as he inquired about Snape. Since Draco had seen her come from Snape’s rooms, the gossip had spread like wildfire, thanks to both students and the portraits. The Gyrffindors liked her for she was new and exciting and had gotten their house points. With the exception of Ginny Weasley, who was giving Jessica dirty looks when she wasn’t looking? Harry hadn’t even noticed her, and how well she had filled out over the summer. Both the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws said nothing, just stared. But the Slytherins treated her like a queen, even though she could technically be called a mudblood. They had brought her treats during lunch, offered to tutor her, and asked her to accompany them to the next Hogsmeade visit. Pansy Parkinson had handed her a pair of pearl earrings to wear to dinner at the Malfoy’s. Jessica figured that it had to do with Snape, that they must think that she was his girlfriend, or a fellow Death Eater, or soon to be one.

She took a seat in front of Snape’s desk, and Harry (whom Jessica was secretly calling my little shadow) sat next to her. Snape raised an eyebrow before speaking. She stuck her tongue out at him and he turned to the board.

“Today we will be making Veritaserum. You will find the ingredients on the board. Potter, do try and pay attention to the directions. I do not know how you managed to get into my N.E.W.T. class, but I can assure you that if you do not meet up to my standards, I will be quite glad to fail you.” Snape said dryly. “Miss Lynch, I would like to see for a moment. Jessica followed him into the potions storeroom, and he closed the door behind them.

“Oh. They’re probably going to have a go at it in the classroom” snickered Lavender Brown.

“What are you doing talking to Malfoy? Are you trying to cause problems?” Snape asked quietly.

“Who are you to tell me who I can talk to?” she said, her voice rising.

‘It’s dangerous, that’s why. Now you must go, for there is no refusing Lucius Malfoy. We will have to come up with an explanation of who you are.”

“Big deal. It’s not like it’s going to ever happen again.” She turned to leave, but Snape caught her wrist. His eyes were narrowed in anger. This girl was going to be the death of him yet.

‘But it will. Lucius Malfoy was the one who made the request. He seems to like you despite the fact that you are”

“What, a mudblood? Go on and say what you’re thinking. Cause that’s what I am, right Snape? I can do some magic, but I’m muggleborn. Only good for sex, and nothing else, right Snape? Well, if that’s all I am to you and your Slytherins then you can all go to hell!”

Jessica flung the door open and stamped from the class out into the hallway.

“Looks like the lovers have had a row.” Lavender said to her seatmate.

‘I heard that Miss Brown. That’ll be 5 points from Gryffindor.” Snape’s voice cut through the room. “Now finish your potions or I’ll give the lot of you detention.” He spent the remainder of the class wishing he had said something different to Jessica. Severus wasn’t naturally a crude man, but there was something about the girl that was so upsetting that he wanted to argue with her. Yet he also found himself attracted to her. He was worried what would happen to her if she were to make a mistake tonight. She’d be killed, and so would he.

Jessica had found her way back to Snape’s rooms. She got in easily, as he had set the wards to recognize her. She got her portable DVD player from her bag and her copy of Gone With The Wind. The familiar music filled the room, and soon she was lost in the world of Scarlett O’ Hara.

“I wish I had a drink.” Jessica said out loud, and a crack echoed through the room. Dobby appeared holding a tray of sandwiches and drinks.
“Hello Miss Jessica. Dobby heard you and he brought you something to eat. And this” Dobby said, holding out a large silver box tied with a green satin bow.

“What’s this?” she asked, opening the box.

“It’s from my old master. He’s a bad wizard, that Malfoy.” Dobby said shivering. He went to smash his head on her knees, but she stopped him and told him not to hurt himself. He thanked her and disappeared.

Jessica wondered why Lucius Malfoy would send her something. A piece of parchment lay on top of a wrapped garment. Picking it up she read

‘Miss Lynch,

It has come to my attention that you are new to the area, and are acquainted with Severus Snape. My son Draco also speaks highly of you and your beauty. Please do me the honor of your presence at dinner tonight at Malfoy Manor. I have sent the proper dinner attire for you.

Regards,

Lucius Malfoy.’

Jessica unwrapped the dress and gasped at its loveliness. The top, a corset, was a lovely shade of emerald, and embroidered with silver leafs. The skirt was layered chiffon in the same shade. She tried it on and found it to be a perfect fit. She sighed with delight as she looked at her image in the mirror. She couldn’t wait for the dinner that night.

AN- Okay guys, this idea of a dinner with the Malfoy’s came at be while I was writing this. It’d be kind of interesting to see what would happen if Jessica had to play it up with them. And I figured that some purebloods would call Jess a mudblood since she has no magical lineage. On a side note, my boyfriend started reading this last night. He’s on chapter 3 right now, and he likes it! Is that not cool or what?
