Dabbling in Debauchery
Remus had a feeling. He frowned at his reflection in the floor length mirror, turning and twisting and keeping his eyes locked on himself. He wasn't convinced blue was his color, but Lucius was. And the dark blue, silver embroidered robes did suit him nicely. He had never worn anything quite like them. They were of a soft, supple material that was thick and pleasing to the touch. He tilted his head, spinning once more.
"You look lovely." Lucius called from the bed. He was clothed in dark green robes with gold trim, luxuriant and rich. Draco-all dressed up in white robes of his own-was lying against his father's stomach, completely unaware of the hustle and bustle that was soon to start.
"I'm just..." Remus sighed, turning his head to look at Lucius.
"I know." Lucius grinned. "Must do quite a bit for your amour-propre. Rags to riches, hmm?"
"No." Remus ran a hand through his sandy hair. "Not rags."
"Close enough." Lucius shrugged, and left it at that. Remus didn't argue, he didn't have the strength. And it didn't really matter.
"What are you going to tell people?" Remus asked, eyes concerned.
"That you're a friend of the family. Severus of course knows."
Remus winced. That was something he wasn't looking forward to. Remus wasn't sure how he felt about Severus anymore. He hadn't seen the other man since graduation. And it hadn't been a pleasant experience. Remus had gone to give his congratulations, and Severus had simply turned his nose up at him.
"Oh, calm down." Lucius rose, wrapping his arms around Remus. "The only reason he doesn't like you is because you could tear out his throat in under three seconds if you really wanted to. With your teeth. That would put any ex on edge."
"I'm really not as violent as you like to think I am." Remus said, leaning back into his lover.
"Oh, yes you are." Lucius said, kissing Remus' neck. "You just don't know it yet."
Remus, again, said nothing. He had nothing to say. Lucius would believe what he wanted, and he wouldn't listen to anything or anyone. He wanted to believe that Remus' calm exterior was a cover for some violent, raging demon. And nothing he said would change his mind. //Let him think what he wants. As long as he accepts it.//
"Is it time to go downstairs yet?" Remus really was dreading this. The little get together would be full of Death Eaters and aristocrats, and Remus cared for neither.
"Almost." Lucius rested his head on Remus' shoulder. These intimate moments were what Remus truly lived for. He leaned his head back, resting it against Lucius'. He watched their reflection, amazed yet again by it. That he was here, in the arms of Lucius Malfoy. He hated that he had to keep it secret from his friends, but they would never accept Lucius. They had barely tolerated Severus, Sirius hadn't at all. And Lucius was ten times the 'threat' Severus had been. And if they knew that Remus wasn't just suspicious of his lover's Death Eater activities...
//A small price to pay, really.// Remus decided. Lucius was accepting of him, in a way.
"All right. It's time to go. Most of the guests have arrived...most of them are Cissa's friends. I say we stay an hour, and then we invite Severus to retire in the parlor."
"Sounds good to me." Remus really wasn't looking forward to this event. He was half afraid Narcissa was going to pull some sort of stunt to get him killed. After living with the woman for as long as he had, he didn't put it past her. Lucius pulled away with a final kiss to his cheek. Remus smoothed his robes, and watched as Lucius picked up Draco. The baby made a small noise, and snuggled into his father's arms.
"Such a perfect child..." Lucius sighed.
"For now. He'll grow up to be quite the enfant terrible." Remus smoothed Draco's hair back, and fell into step behind Lucius. He didn't know what anyone would think, Remus following right behind Lucius, but he didn't care. He took a deep breath, and followed behind, eyes downcast. He wanted to hide. He felt horribly out of place. The sounds of chatter and soft music floated up the stairs and to Remus' ears. He felt suddenly like a small child, tagging behind his parents or his more popular friends. They reached the top of the stairs, and the soft noises stopped. Remus raised his eyes, looking out over the gathering of guests. As he had assumed, mostly well to do women. A few had dragged their husbands. And of course, near the foot of teh stairs and looking resplendent and gothic in black robes, Severus.
"May I present my so." Lucius said, holding Draco out as he walked down the stairs. Remus took another deep breath, wishing his heart would stop beating so fiercely in his chest. He was well aware of the looks he was receiving as he followed behind Lucius, and lowered his eyes once more. He wanted to return to his room, or perhaps the parlor, and just forget this ever happened.
"A beautiful child, Lucius." Severus was saying. "Congratulations."
"Thank you." Lucius kissed Severus on the cheek. "I'm simply going to show him off to the other guests, Cissa insists."
." ." Severus nodded, speaking softly. "This isn't going to take long, is it?"
"Not for us." Lucius responded, quietly. "After an hour or so, I'm handing Draco off to Cissa, and then us men are going to head to the parlor for drinks."
"Good. You know how I feel about these affairs." Severus returned the brief kiss on Lucius' cheek.
"We all do, Sev." Lucius said. "You already know Remus, I'll leave you two to chat..." And with that, Lucius breezed off into trowdrowd, leaving Remus staring after him wide eyed. //Thank you, Lucius. You could have really left me in an uncomfortable situation!//
"Lupin." Severus nodded politely.
"Severus. Good to see you." //Be polite. Be civil.//
"Mmm. A fine looking child. I heard about his birth." Severus wasn't looking at Remus as he spoke, he was watching Lucius.
"Ah." Remus really didn't know what to say.
"By all rights, I suppose you should be his godfather."
"You know why I can't be." Remus sighed, watching Lucius as well.
"Yes."
"Yes." It was awkward, but it could be worse. Remus sighed, ran a hand through his hair, and turned to Severus. "Look, I don't want it to be like this. I know you and Lucius are friends, and...we're most likely going to be thrown together in social situations. I'd like to make some form of peace? Like Lucius said...we're not children anymore. It's time to put everything behind us."
"Some things cannot just be put in the past Lupin." Severus turned as well, dark eyes fixing on Remus'. "But attempts can be made, I suppose."
"Thank you." Remus offered a small smile, which was returned with a nod of Severus' head. "You don't mind if I stay here and talk with you? I don't really want to..."
"Nor do I, in all honesty." Severus leaned casually against the railing post. "I hate affairs such as these."
The next hour was passed in quiet conversation, nothing too deep. What they'd been doing since school, Lucius, things of that nature. Remus hardly noticed the passage of time, enjoying Severus' polite company after so long. Lucius returned, sans Draco.
"You were right, Severus." Lucius said softly.
"Of course I was. As if he would attend something like this?" Severus gave a little scoff, and Remus wondered what they were talking about. "I'm sure you'll receive something."
"I don't doubt it. All in all, I'm rather relieved. We can slip away now..." Lucius rested his hand on Remus' arm, smiling softly.
"Gladly." Severus said. "Lead on."
Lucius placed his other hand on Severus', leading both men quietly out of the large foyer and down the corridor to a small, elaborately decorated parlor room. Lucius dropped down into a large green armchair, and held his arms open for Remus.
"That was the most droll hour of my life!" Lucius exclaimed. "You two were lucky. You had each other. I had to deal with Cissa's friends and their husbands, all of which were trying to sneak out."
"Like we did?" Remus asked lightly.
"That's different. Sev's the godfather, and it's our house." Lucius frowned, and the held his arms out again. "Come here Remmie."
"Oh...I wouldn't want to make Severus uncomfortable." Remus said, shaking his head.
"Nonsense!" Lucius snapped. "We're all grown men here."
"Do what you will." Severus said, waving his hand. "As long as you have brandy, I really don't care."
"Brandy is in the cabinet." Lucius said. "Remmie, you're up. Do you mind?"
"Of course not." Remus smiled, and retrieved the bottle of brandy, along with two small brandy glasses. He set the glasses down on the table between the two chairs, and poured brandy into them.
"I figured you'd like some as well." Remus said, offering a glass to Severus and then to Lucius.
"You're too good to me." Lucius said, pulling Remus down into his lap. "I still can't believe I'm a father."
"Neither can I." Severus said. "If simply for the fact it means you slept with a woman at least once."
"Would that it were that simple..." Lucius shook his head. "Thank Merit wit was a boy."
"He really is beautiful." Remus said, settling into Lucius' lap.
"And he will have the greatest education offered, the finest tutors, the best care. He will want for nothing!" Lucius raised his brandy glass.
"You're going to spoil him." Remus said, chiding softly.
"Yes, but you will be fairly stern with him, so that's all right." Lucius smiled, running his hand through Remus' hair.
"I pity poor Draco, raised by the pair of you." Severus said, shaking his head.
"Don't think you're not going to have a hand in raising him!" Lucius said, still smiling. "You're his godfather."
"So do I spoil him or not?"
"Mmmm....sometimes." Lucius said, and laughed. "Ah...I should have only waited half an hour."
"If that." Remus said, leaning back. Severus had finished his brandy, and was pouring himself another glass. Lucius wrapped his arms around Remus, pulling him firmly against his torso.
"You do make a rather striking couple." Severus said. "Aesthetically speaking."
"Thank you, Sev." Lucius said, resting his head against Remus'. "Though I must say, you and Remus looked rather good together in school."
"Mmm." Severus inclined his head.
"If this makes you uncomfortable..." Remus said again, biting at his lower lip. That was the last thing he wanted, especially when he and Severus were starting to be on good terms.
"Not in the least." Severus said, tipping back his glass of brandy. "In all honesty, it's rather erotic."
"erotic?" Remus barked a small laugh. "Severus, how many brandy's have you had?"
"That's his fourth. Sev's a bit of a lush..."
"I am not a lush." Severus snapped. "I simply enjoy fine alcohol."
"Of course." Lucius said, shaking his head. "Well honestly Sev, if you think this is erotic..." Before Remus could do or say anything, Lucius had tipped his face towards him and captured his lips in a rather intense kiss. Remus closed his eyes, surrendering to his lover's passion.
"Quite appealing." Severus said, crossing his legs and leaning back.
"Is it?" Lucius voice had taken on a teasing tone. "Well then..." He pressed his lips to Remus' again, hand sliding up to cup his lover's head. Remus wasn't sure how he felt about this little turn of events, except of course very aroused by his lovers attentions. Lucius' other hand was sliding over his back, and then his lips were on his neck, sucking gently. Remus tipped his head back, robes falling away from his collarbone. Lucius' lips fixed on that newly exposed skin, and then Lucius was deftly unfastening the clasps of his robes and sliding them back, exposing his chest and back.
"My lord, are you two planning on copulating right here in front of me?" Severus asked, and Remus immediately tensed.
"God Severus, I'm sorry..." He pulled his robes up, covering himself.
"I wasn't complaining." Severus tilted his head, and raised an eyebrow.
"Oh." Remus bowed his head, flushing.
"Enjoying the show, Sev?" Lucius asked, pulling Remus' hands away so that his robes fell back again.
"Quite."
"Care to join in?"
"Lucius!" Remus hissed, appalled at what his lover was suggesting.
"What? Wouldn't you enjoy it?" Lucius kissed Remus briefly.
"Well...yes." Remus mumbled.
"I believe I'd enjoy it as well." Severus said, eyes fixed on Lucius and Remus.
"Then what are we waiting for?" Lucius asked. "Shall we move this to the bedroom? Or continue here?"
"Makes no difference to me." Severus shrugged. Remus wasn't sure what to think. Things like this just didn't happen to him! But they were, and both Lucius and Severus were looking at him expectantly. He swallowed nervously, and gave a weak smile.
"Here? I guess..."
