style='color:black'>Chapter 5:Secrets Kept

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Walking the whole way up to Professor Dumbledore’s office Jessica’s eyes
widened as she mbermbered her conversation with Professor McGonagall that was
bringing her here to the headmaster’s office.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Turner!  Turner!  The headmaster wants to see you.”  Jessica
turned away from Remus and the other Marauders as Deputy Headmistress walked up
to them.  The four boys looked at McGonagall questioningly, but she
ignored them, sweeping Jessica away from everyone.  Jessica followed
quietly knowing better than to speak when McGonagall was in the mood she
was.  “Turner, I know I have to wait to find out from Professor Dumbledore
what was going on, but I want to tell you that I admire the way you stood up to
you-know-who.”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Thank you, Professor.  I know Voldemort is a lot stronger than I am, but
I knew I couldn’t let him win.”  Professor McGonagall shivered at
Voldemort’s name, but did not correct the girl.  They had come to
Dumbledore’s office.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“It’s Mars Bars.”  McGonagall left her to face Dumbledore alone.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>        sp;&sp;
Now, as she opened the door the headmaster smiled at her.  “Sit down, Miss
Turner, if that is truly your name.”  Jessica sat down in the chair in
front of his desk.  “You know why you’re here and I don’t want to have to
use any potions to get the truth from of you.  Do you understand?”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jessica nodded and waited for Dumbledore to begin.  “What is your true
name?”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Jessica Lynn Black.”  The headmaster’s eyes lit up at this.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“But there is no one by that name in the Black family.”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
He waited for his answer as Jessica took a deep breath. “I am from the
future.  I am Sirius Black’s daughter.”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I’ll be,” Dumbledore laughed.  “I thought if anything the Marauders would
be the ones to time travel.  The way they are always getting into
things.”  He looked at her and said, “This solves the Harry Potter problem
doesn’t.  He’s James’ son.”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes.  And he is the reason why I am here in the past.  I am his
Secret- Keeper.”  If Dumbledore had been expecting anything this wasn’t
it.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Why?  What happen&nbs  It took the next couple of hours for Jessica
to explain everything from beginning to end.  Dumbledore listened
carefully and asked questions to clarify different points.  “You and the
future Mr. Potter have seemed to have gone through plenty of trouble in your
young lives.  You may stay here as long as my future self sees fit.
You will have my protection.”

Coming back into the common room after her talk with Dumbledore Jessica found
Remus’ in the corner studying probably for the test in Charms the next
day.  She slid into his lap and snuggled against his chest.  He put
one arm around her as he continued to write notes down.  “Jess?…”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes?”  She looked up at him, waiting for whatever he was going to say.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Who’s this Harry Potter?”  He ced ced down at her as she stiffened in his
arms.  This subject seemed to have struck a nerve.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I can’t tell you that, Remus.  It’s not my place to tell it.”  There
seemed to be tears welling up in her eyes.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I have a right to know.  Voldemort was going to kill you because of that
boy.  I think I have a right to know about the boy that MY girlfriend
would risk her life for.”  His eyes turned dark with anger.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I can’t.”  She whispered trying to move from his grasp.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>          &n

“Won’t is more like it.”  Jessica looked up at him and gave a hollow
laugh.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I believe you are jealous, Remus.  Though there is nothing to be jealous
about, but I just can’t tell you right now.  Right now it is not my
place.”  Remus glared at her and she realized that Remus wanted to know
everything.  She knew though that she couldn’t tell him everything.
It would jeopardize what her and future Dumbledore was trying to do.  “I
am sorry, Remus. Please try to understand.”

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
He pushed her from him as he stood up.  “I’m sorry for this too.  If
you can’t trust me enough to tell me something so I could help you then
good-bye.”  Remus walked out leaving Jessica in the common room by
herself.

style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
In the next few days that followed Jessica became what she was when she first
entered this time, a loner.  The Marauders ignored her and the people that
were friends with the Marauders followed suit.  Lucius Malfoy seemed smug
that Jessica was having trouble ad snickered everytime she walked by.  She
usually hid up in the girls’ dorm so she wouldn’t have to face to many other
people because she didn’t feel like fighting people that just didn’t
understand.  It still hurt that Remus had not listened to her; more than
loosing her father as a friend.
