Draco sat in the room he had been sharing with Harry Potter for three weeks. He looked around at the disarray that was his half-packed belongings. Three days, only three days until he had to leave this dark place he had come to think of as a substitute for home. Three days until he had to take his place by the Dark Lord’s side. In practice if not reality.

He looked up as Harry entered the room and sat on his bed, giving Draco a look he couldn’t quite read, as though he wanted to say something.

“Yes, Pott He He flinched internally at the use of Harry’s surname. In his mind, he had dropped that charade long ago.

“Malfoy…Draco. You don’t have to do this, you know--” Harry trailed off.

A smirk hiding the surge of longing he felt, he looked at the Gryffindor incredulously. “Don’t have to do what? Go to Voldemort? Of course I do, Harry. Don’t be ridiculous. This is it, this is the big battle. If I don’t go to him now, then he’ll know I’m here. You know I have to go.”

Harry shook his head in frustration and cursed. “Fuck, Draco. You know how strong we are. And you’re right; this is going to be the big battle. And the last one if I have anything to say about it. I’m gonna kill him. But you…you’ll have on a mask, we won’t be able to protect you, Draco…You’ll look just like any other Death Eater…I don’t want you to die…”

Running a hand through his white-blond hair, Draco looked questioningly into Harry’s eyes. The answer was there, he just wanted, needed, verbal confirmation. “What difference does it make to you whether I die or not, Potter?”

“Malfoy, Merlin, don’t you get it by now?!” Harry kicked at the floor and ran his hands through his hair. “Nevermind, I thought you might get lonely since you don’t have very many friends over in Voldemort’s camp. I charmed this for you…”

He threw a small pillow onto Draco’s bed and walked out of the room.

Draco picked up the pillow and inhaled deeply. Harry’s scent clung to every little piece of fabric and making him dizzy. He leaned back and tucked it under his head, closing his eyes when he noticed the soft music coming from the pillow. Pressing his head closer, he recognized the tune and laughed out loud. “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. Merlin, what a waste of a charm.

Still, he remembered being forced to watch the movie. Hermione had brought it from her house and they had watched it one Saturday night after an Order meeting. He, Harry, and Neville had laughed throughout the whole thing and serenaded each other loudly at the end of the film. A sullen Ron sat dying to join in the joking but his feelings for Hermione overriding his urge to make fun of the flick.

The song changed and melded into “If You Think I’m Sexy” by Rod Stewart. There was a time when he would have scoffed at this song, but now it brought a sentimental smile to his face. He had learned a lot about muggle music in his time spent at Grimmauld Place. The first time he had heard this song, Harry had been singing it at the top of his lungs in the shower. Harry had come out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel, water dripping down his (well, yes, let’s face it, sexy) body to find Draco in tears from laughter.

Next came “Fat Bottom Girls” by Queen. That had started as a joke; Harry and Ron would sing it whenever Ginny or Luna walked by. Then when Ron had been admitted to St. Mungo’s for those few weeks, Draco had taken his place in singing it with Harry whenever the girls were around.

Draco smiled, remembering all the times he had shared with Harry and the others in the past eighteen months. He couldn’t help but wonder if Harry felt the same twinge in his gut whenever they were together. Other songs followed, each of them significant in their own way. Finally, he sat up and went in search of the other boy to thank him for the gift.

He found Harry standing just outside the door, leaning against the wall in the hallway. “Harry, thanks. It’s great,” he offered.

Harry smiled at him.

“I heard through ‘The Reason.’ How many more are there?”

The smile slipped a little from the green-eyed boy’s face. “Only one…”

“Well, what is it?”

Clearing his throat, Harry choked out, “’And So It Goes’…”

Immediately, he remembered hearing that song and asking about Hermione about it. His favorite lines jumped to his mind, ‘If my silence made you leave / Then that would be my worst mistake / So I will share this room with you / And you can have this heart to break…So I would choose to be with you / That’s if the choice were mine to make / But you can make decisions too / And you can have this heart to break.’ Draco could actually feel his ears turning pink as he realized what Harry was saying. His carefully constructed mask slipped just a little and he gave his former nemesis a genuine smile.

Taking courage from that, Harry went on. “Are you doing anything tonight?”

All he could do was shake his head.

“A few of us are going into muggle London. You wanna come?”

“I’d love to.”

“Great, I’ll see you later.”

Draco returned to their room as Harry went down the stairs. He set about packing again, this time with the barest hint of a smile.
