Chapter Five: Garnet
One weekend a week before Halloween Hermione dropped off Garnet, Kiki, and Merlin off to three “ Keepers.” Those that had been selected by the Headmaster to kind of watch them and make sure that they stayed out of trouble. Garnet was dropped off to Professor Lupin’s tower to be watched by Ginny. Kiki was given to Lavender, and Merlin to Poppy. This part is all about Garnet.
Garnet like her sister and brother was highly intelligent and guess was old enough even if she was nearing six months to know that she was intelligent and of course gifted.
“ So what do you want to do?” asked Ginny. It was Saturday and despite the huge pile of homework that she had been given to get her ready for her O.W.L’S she decided that she had time to play with Hermione’s daughter.
Garnet unlike her brother and sister didn’t have black hair, rather strawberry blond hair. She had the famous Snape “ eyes,” which meant that she was related to the Professor. Ginny conjured a bright blue ball and rolled it towards Garnet. Garnet’s mind hated this game and like Merlin it was up in the air with the help of magic.
“ Don’t let them do magic, especially Garnet,” was Hermione’s words when she had dropped Garnet off. Ginny didn’t want to tell Garnet that she couldn’t do magic because she didn’t know how much those words that the baby would understand. However she waved her wand and the ball came down. Garnet cried so hard that the only window in the room broke. Things went all around the room in one uncontrolled tornado.
And then the clouds grew dark and a huge twister appeared. It plowed threw the countryside, destroying buildings, but strange it seemed, not lives. The twister started to head to Hogwarts, cows being thrown all about. You could hear them mooing. Ginny screamed and then suddenly it stopped as though Garnet had gotten what she wanted out of Ginny.
Hermione yelled at Ginny for this. She couldn’t believe that she had allowed her to do magic.
“ But I didn’t mean to,” she wined. “ Garnet just made it happen.”
Normally if you told someone that a child just made something happen, they would think that you had too much drink and that you needed your head examined. Of course Garnet along with her brother and sister weren’t ordinary children and things like making the weather change was all part of the learning experience of raising a child that could do such things.
“ Look Ginny I know that you didn’t mean for it to happen, but Voldemort wants my children. Even went as far as trying to control them. Please make sure that they don’t do anymore magic.”
Ginny promised and Hermione left her go. Hermione sighed thinking that at least the other two had much better luck with Kiki and Merlin then she knew that Ginny had with Garnet. Garnet stayed with Ginny for the rest of the day and even quieted down for a nap. It seemed that making that tornado had caused Garnet to become very tired and soon she was sound asleep.
“ Thank the gods for small things,” muttered Ginny.
Ginny had forgotten for a time what it was like to have no control over your powers. When every little thing that made you mad, made you use magic. When Remus returned Garnet was still asleep and she told him all about her tornado day.
“ Well at least it’s over,” he told her. “ Now did that crib come in?”
“ No Remus it hasn’t.”
Around nine Hermione picked up Garnet and soon she joined her sleeping siblings in a wonderful dream world.
