CHAPTER FIVE

Harry arrived at the Great Hall twenty minutes later, out of his pajamas and hungry.

He was nearly crushed to death by Ron when he grabbed Harry and sat him down at the breakfast table.

“Where the hell were you last night Harry? You were there before I fell asleep but then you weren’t when I woke up! And the invisibility cloak was gone too!” Ron hissed.

Harry caught Hermione’s questioning look too.

Harry hesitated to tell them. Should he tell them?

“You-you haven’t been with anyone have you?” Ron asked skeptically.

Harry rolled his eyes. “What do you mean, been with anyone?”

Ron’s ears went pink and he leaned in. “Like, been with anyone.... snuggling.”

“No, of course not.” Harry said as if that was the preposterous thing in the world.

Hermione raised her eyebrow. “Then why did you sneak off in the middle of the night without telling anyone?”

“I just went for a walk that’s all.” Harry shrugged.

“A walk?” Ron said disbelievingly. “You were out on a walkil dil dawn?”

“No, I erm- fell accidentally fell asleep.” Harry mumbled.

Ron gave a loud ‘hrmph’ and returned to his breakfast.

Hermione didn’t say another word either but she and Ron exchanged a knowing glance, which made Harry even more irritated than he was already.

They went through classes that day with Harry and Ron hardly talking to each other. Hermione didn’t try hard to strike up conversations eit She She seemed to be siding with Ron. Or so Harry felt. Harry’s mind was full of jumbles right now and even though he knew that he could trust Ron and Hermione with his life, he couldn’t bring himself to tell them about his encounter with his archenemy.

He was sure that he was just shocked from last night and that his brain wasn’t in the state to think rationally but something inside him tugged at him painfully to be noticed. He just couldn’t put his finger on it as to what it was.

The three made their way up to Divination that day after Herbology and Harry was definately not looking forward to it. He never looked forward to Divination but today, he was just not in the mood at all the listen to Professor Trelawny twittering around him, telling him that his death was awaiting him for thousandth time.

But when they climbed up the ladder to the stuffy old attick of a classroom, they
were taken aback to find someone sitting in the overexaggerative throne of a chair.
This teacher that sat in front of them looked nothing like the bug that Trelawny was. She was as maybe as thin as Profe Tre Trelawny and just as tall but she had none of the bangles and beads and stuffy shawls around her.

She was a pale but mysterious looking women with black hair and blue eyes- no gray eyes- no violet eyes... Harry couldn’t help but stare at the woman’s eyes. They seemed to change color by the second.

Slowly the rest of the class filed in and paused when they saw the teacher.
“Where’s Professor Trelawny?” Lavender whispered worriedly.

“I don’t know!” Parvati said biting her lip. “I hope she not sick or anything!”

Ron gave a snort. “Well if she is sick, then I don’t understand why she couldn’t have drank some potion beforehand. Or maybe her inner eye decieved her just this once?”

Harry couldn’t help but gaffaw loudly. He and Ron exchanged looks and after a pause, they both burst out laughing, hanging on to each other for support.

“Now class. Sit down please.” The teachallealled out over everyone. Her voice was soft, yet it seemed to penetrate the very air.

“My name is Professor Nona. Professor Trelawly is regrettabley busy at the moment and could not attend class, so I will be filling in.”

She ignored the queries of Lavender and Parvati and went on.

“Today, we will be doing a bit of reading that I presume will be quite different from anything you have done before with Sibyll. It is called The Deep Eye.”

The room obviously had no clue whatsoever about this new branch of divination and st sil silent. Ron and Harry exchanged ano loo look of exasperation and sted sed sniggers.

Professor Nona’s eyes shot in their direction. Harry and Ron flinched but was surprised when she didn’t look mad. In fact, she was smiling, ever so slightly.
As she returned her gaze back to rest of the class, she went on.

“The Deep Eye is not just some type of random reading like the crystal ball and tea leaves (Harry could have sworn that her mouth had twitched as if humored), it is the most reliable, yet difficult way to look past the mask and into the heart. It is not to see the future, but to uncover hidden secrets from within.

“I don’t expect you all to understand what it is quite yet. You must experience it
first.” she stood up.

Harry watched nervously as she walked over the table where he and Ron were
sitting.

“Harry Potter. Would you mind volunteering for this first demonstration?” she asked.
Harry gulped. “Er- sure...I guess.” he cast Ron a reproachful look as Professor Nona pulled up a chair to face him and sat down. Harry had no idea what was coming but knew it couldn’t be any worse then having his death predicted.

Professor Nona didn’t say a word for nearly five minutes. But to Harry, and Harry only, itnn’t so.

The moment Professor Nona had sat down, she gazed into his eyes, sending shivers up and down his spine. He tried to shift his own gaze but for some reason, it felt like she’d locked his eyes in place.

He felt a prickling sensation as if her eyes were making it’s way through his eyeballs and into his body.

Harry was beginning to feel dizzy, like he was being drained of all his power and quite suddenly, it all stopped. When he stopped blinking and looked around,

Professor Nona was sitting back, smiling as if she knew something he didn’t know.
“Mr. Potter... you are confused, are you not?” she asked softly.

Harry furrowed his brows. Yes he was confused, anyone would be after an ordeal like that.

“You are torn between two feelings, yet you are suffering because you cannot understand one of them. Things have happened to you that you would never have fathomed and they bring happiness yet you are unwilling to accept... Your heart tells you one thing while your brain tells you another... You will recieve something soon and you must grasp it. I would advise you to listen to your inner voice- and embrace it as you would someone you loved...” she said the last sentence pointedly and fell silent. HR> Harry gaped at her. What did she mean? What was she trying to hint? She couldn’t possibly know.... but.... did she?

Ron was loo bac back and forth at Professor Nona and Harry, looking utterly befuddled.

“What was that all about Harry?” he whispered the moment Professor Nona had walked away.

Harry didn’t reply. In fact, he was too absorbed in his own thoughts that he hadn’t even heard Ron’s voice.

What did she mean he couldn’t understand one of his feelings? And that he was unwilling to accept.... but the part that had caught him most off guard was the last bit... embrace it as you would someone you loved....

He kept silent all through class and when class was finally dismissed, Ron grabbed his arm and pulled him down the rope ladder. When he finally let go of him, he turned on Harry.

“You are hiding something aren’t you?” he said. “What Professor Nona was talking about, that’s what you’re hiding isn’t it?”

Harry blinked. “What?”

“You see? You’re not even listening to me! Why can’ t you trust me enough to let me in on your secret Harry? I thought we were good enough friends for that.” Ron looked hurt.

“Ron, I don’t know what you6;re6;re talking abou-”

“You know what? Forget it. It’s completely written across your face that you don’t want to tell me and so I won’t nag you about it. You can keep your fucking secret.” Ron turned on his heel and marched away angrily.

“No! Wait Ron! It’s not like that! Wait!” Harry called after him desperately but Ron didn’t stop, he ignored Harry and Harry lost sight of him among the rush of students in the halls.

“God dammit!” Harry swore under his breath. He was confused all right. But after Professor Nona’s speech, he’d felt something click inside of him, he still wasn’t quite sure what but he felt that she’d nailed something inside him, something that he’d
been wanting to understand.

“Harry!” someone called from behind him.

He turned around and saw Hermione running to catch up with him, her arms ladden
with books.

“How was Divination?” she asked dryly. “Any more tragic deaths?”

Harry shook his head. “It wasn’t Trelawny today was was a substitute.”

Hermione’s eyebrows shot up, a look of amusement on her face. “Was she sick or something?”

“Dunno...” Harry shrugged.
“Did she fortune tell your doom too?”

“No.... she didn’t... it was quite optimistic rather.... I think.” Harry said.

“Oh well, don’t get your hopes up too much Harry, I highly doubt that any sub of Professor Trelawny’s is any good. Where’s Ron?”

Harry sighed. “He ran off. A bit mad at me too.”

Hermione rolled her eyes. “Is he still upset about his morning?”

“Well yeah... and he got mad again after divination...”

“Harry I don’t want to pressure you or anything but I don’t see why you won’t tell us what’s on your mind. You know we wouldn’t tell a soul!” she pleaded.

“I told you! There’s nothing!” said Harry moodily. “Why do you two keep asking me about it? There’s nothing I’m hiding! God!”

“We’re not that thick Harry. You’ve been different ever since that detention with Malfoy.”

“I have not!” said Harry defensively.

“It’s completely obvious Harry!” said Hermione.

“Why, oh WHY can’t I just have two friends that don’t try to pester me about nothing? I told you it’s NOTHING.” Harry’s face was burning with rage.

Hermione opened her mouth to retort but Harry held his hand up in front of her face.
“No. Don’t talk to me.” and with that he stormed off in the other direction.
