Chapter 5

Hello again. This is going to be my last update until some time after august 5. I apologize, but I’m off to do things again. Don’t worry, I’ll write some of the story while I’m gone. Maybe the next chapter will be longer. ^_^
Ta for now,

Ivory Wolf

To Florentia, thank you for you offer. I’m going to go ahead and finish this story first, but I’ll send you the chapter for my new story when I get back… if you don’t mind that is.

Blood. That’s all Remus can remember. Blood and Shea’s screams. He doesn’t know whether to thank or to kill his friends. Thank them for saving him from Hagrid’s anger or kill them for letting him out in the first place.

“It’s not their fault,” he mutters to himself. “It’s mine.” He let them talk him into it; he knew the dangers and he didn’t care. Now he’s swimming in guilt for doing something he had sworn that he’d never do. He turned someone into a werewolf. And not just anyone, but his love, Shea.

‘I hope you’re happy with yourself,’ he thinks.

‘You wanted it just as badly as I did,’ the wolf retorts.

Remus feels his tears prickle in his eyes, knowing that the wolf is right. He wanted her to be a werewolf. He wanted her to be just like him because maybe then she would consider being his mate. Maybe then she wouldn’t mind being with a monster.

“Moony, open the door,” Sirius demands.

“Go away,” Remus chokes fromide ide of his closet. “I want to be alone.”

“Remus open the fucking door!” he shouts.

“No!” he shouts back.

“Moony,” he says softly. “You need to face life.”

“Easy for you to say,” he snaps. “You aren’t the one who turned your girlfriend into a werewolf.”

“No, but me, James, and Peter are responsible for turning our best mate’s girlfriend into one.”

Remus cracks open the door and looks at him. “What do you mean?”

“I mean that what happened to her wasn’t your fault, it was ours. We’re the ones who let you out. We’re the ones who’ve pressured you time after time to walk around in your wolf form. It was our fault and we’re sorry.”

“It was my fault to,” Remus states. “I let you talk me into those things even though I knew what could happen.”

“So I guess it’s everyone’s fault.”

“I guess so.” The two friends share a faint smile before bringing up something they’re been needing to talk about. “What about Shea? She hates me, I know she does.”

Sirius thinks it over for a minute before stating the obvious. “Why don’t you talk to her?”

Remus is speechless for a moment before blowing up. “What the bloody helld ofd of an answer is that?! Talk to her? Talk to her! She HATES me! Don’t you get it?! She’ll never want to see me again, let alone talk to me!”

“You don’t know that.”

“Yes, I do.”

“How?”

“Why wouldn’t she? Wouldn’t you hate someone who turned you into a monster?”

“You didn’t,” Sirius whispers, causing Remus’ furry to fade. “Look, all I’m saying is that you should go and talk to her. If you don’t want to… well… I’m not going to make you.”

Sirius leaves Remus to his thoughts. Should he talk to Shea? What will she say? Will she still care about him or see him in that way that others see werewolves as, a monster?

“I heard that a Death Eater broke into the school and cursed her,” a girl whispers to her friends as they walk past Remus.

“I heard that she was trying to show off by doing some complicated spell and it backfired,” her friend says.

Remus groans and buries his face in his eyes. “Don’t worry about it Remus,” James says between bites of his pudding. “They’ll never figure it out.”

“That’s not the point,” he states. “She’s missing all of the days and being the center of all of these rumors because of me.”

“That’s the way it is mate. What’s done is done and there’s nothing you can do to change it, so stop sulking.”

Remus is about to snap back when he feels a tug on his robe. He looks to see a small owl looking at his through big eyes. It drops the letter in front of him before taking to the sky as Remus tears the letter open.

“What’s wrong Moony?” Sirius asks, noticing how pale his cheeks have gotten.

“Read it,” Remus says.

James takes the letter and reads, “’Dear Mr. Lupin, the Headmaster requires you to be present tonight in his office at exactly seven o’clock to discuss the event that took place a week ago.’ Man, that’s right after supper.”

“That’s not good, is it,” Peter says.

“Gee, did you come up with that on your own?” Remus snaps. He sees the hurt look on Peter’s face and winces. “I’m sorry Wormtail, I’ve just been stressed out lately.”

“Apology accepted,” Peter smiles before returning to his diner.

“You don’t think they’re going to kick you out, do you?” Sirius asks.

“Why not? I deserve it,” Remus mutters, pushing his plate away. “I guess I better get going. See you in the common room, I hope.” He ignores the glances his receives from the students as he leaves the Great Hall with his head down.

He watches his feet as he slowly makes his way towards Dumbledore’s office, knowing that this is the last time he’ll walk through the halls as a Hogwarts’ student. He stands in front of the gargoyle and hesitates before saying; “Chocolate Frog.” He trudges up the stairs and feels his hand shake as he knocks on the Headmaster’s door.

The door flies open and he is immediately welcomed with the sight of his parents, Professor Dumbledore, and… Hagrid. “Hello Remus,” Dumbledore says without warmth. “Please sit down.” Remus wearily looks at them before sitting down, feeling smaller as they seem to tower over him. “Please inform your parents as to why you are here.”

“I- I-“ Remus forces the tears back, feeling worse than he has for the past week. “I turned Shea into a werewolf.” He can hear his mother’s gasp and his father’s cry of outrage as he closes his eyes

“Remus, what were you thinking-” she shrieks.

“Young man, I though we taught you better than that,” his father shouts. “Do you realize that you could have killed her? I thought you were supposed to be a smart wizard-”

“-You are grounded for life. Do you hear me? Grounded!-“

“Forget grounded, you’re never leaving the house again!”

“Please, Mr. and Mrs. Lupin,” Dumbledore ssoftsoftly, bringing them to silence. “I did not ask you to come so you can make the boy feel any worse than he already does.”

“He should feel bad,” Mr. Lupin snaps. “After everything you’ve done to help him get into this school, this is what he does to thank you!-“

“Mr. Lupin I will not ask you to be quiet again,” he warns. “The blame does not fully rest on Remus-“

“It does, Professor,” Remus interrupts. “I knew the consequences, I take full responsibility.”

“I had no intention of blaming your friends, Remus,” he shows a faint smile. “Though they have come and told me that it was entirely their fault for talking you into leaving the Shrieking Shack.”

“Your friends talked you into walking on Hogwarts ground in your other form,” Mrs. Lupin gasps. “And I thought they were nice boys-“

“Mrs. Lupin,” Dumbledore says. “They are nice boys and very loyal to Remus. Not only to they accept him for being a werewolf, but they became Animaguses on their own to be with him when he is in his other form.”

Mrs. Lupin blinks as she looks from Dumbledore to Remus. “They still like him?” she asks in disbelief. “Even though they know his secret?”

“Yes,” he smiles.

“That doesn’t makeup for the fact that him and his friends harmed that little girl,” Mr. Lupin states.

“They didn’t do anything to her, it was my fault,” Remus tells him.

“But they were with you when it happened. Why didn’t they stop you?”

“They tried-“

“Silence,” Dumbledore commands. The two fall silent and watch as he regains his composure. “As I said before, it’s not fully Remus’ nor his friends’ fault. I also deserve some of the blame.”

“What?” Remus says in disbelief.

“I knew that you were a werewolf and I also knew that wolves look for mates. Since you never took interest in anyone before, I became careless and didn’t notice how deeply you cared for Shea. If I had then I would’ve been able to warn you about the… urges you’d get when you’re around her.”

“What are you saying?” Mrs. Lupin asks.

“I’m saying that Remus found someone he wanted to be his mate and did what any wolf would do, make her like him.”

“Oh.”

“You’re awful quiet Hagrid. Being Shea’s Godfather, I expected you to try to hurt my son,” Mr. Lupin observes.

“As much as I don’ like what’s happened, I do agree with Professor Dumbledore on this one,” he says, causing relief to fill Remus. “But I’m tellin’ you right now, Remus, if you don’ treat her right then you’ll have to answer to me.”

“I don’t think she’ll have anything to do with me,” Remus whispers. “She hates me.”

“I wouldn’t say that,” Dumbledore says, his eyow tow twinkling.

“She doesn’t?” Remus asks.

“Why don’t you go and ask her?” he suggests. “She’s in the common room.” Before anyone can say another word Remus is on his feet and out of the door.
