CHAPTER V
I HAD DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND ADD TWO CHAPTERS. YEA! ANYWAY BE SURE TO REVIEW!
CHAPTER V
James, Remus, Sirius and Peter just turned the corner of the hall while they were out looking for Dillia when they saw Snape and Nott go into a class room.
They pressed themselves against the wall and hid in the shadows waiting for the two to come back out. They were curious to know what they were doing out past curfew but even more so when they left the class room with Macnair not long after they entered.
They wait until the three left the hallway before going to see what was so important about this class room to be out past curfew.
James heard Sirius curse under his breath and said something about someone should of thought about bringing the map.
They opened the door and stopped short as they entered. There she was sitting in the moonlight, hunched over slightly. Her beautiful hair cascaded down her back and showcased her creamy shoulders. Her body shook from her crying.
~*~*~*~*~
Dillia was just about to give up on getting the knot free and just closed her eyes and cried. She heard the door creak open and she prayed they did not change their minds and come back. When she heard a gasp she opened her eyes and thought maybe it was a teacher. fea fears of looking up and seeing a professor standing there was strong but she slowly straighten but yet she didn’t look up.
Out of the corner of her eye she could see several pairs of feet beneath black robes. She knew who it was. Her heart sank even lower. She would of much rather preferred a teacher then her friends…then Remus seeing her like this.
She forced herself to turn her head and barely look up to them. There faces were distorted and their mouths were open.
She felt another wave of tears and her body shook as she started to cry. It seemed like forever before anyone moved.
Remus pushed past the others and ran to her, sliding the last three feet across the floor on his knees. He was in front of her and she slumped forward into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
James had came over and was working on the knot that tied her hands behind her. While Sirius went over and picked up her wand. He stood there looking at what happen to her and thought of what hell she must of just went through. He felt himself start shaking in anger and tears were swelling in his own eyes.
Remus was whispering in her ear words of reassurance. When he looked back over his shoulder at Sirius “Your cloak.” he said in a horse whisper
Sirius removed his cloak and Remus took it and covered Dillia with it.
“Damnit James. Can you move any slower with that.” Remus spat feeling his own temper taking the better of him, almost as if the wolf was just beneath the surface of his skin begging to be released. The only thing holding him from bursting was Dillia leaning into him quietly crying now.
She felt the tie slip from her throbbing wrist and she put her arms around Remus’ neck searching for comfort. She didn’t want them to see the humility she was feeling on her face. She was also afraid to see the looks the others had.
Remus put a arm under her knees and lifted her easily from the ground. He turned and walked out of the room without saying anything to the others. Sirius had her wand and James picked up her cloak, shirt and bra from when they slipped from her wrist when he had freed her hands. Peter stood rooted to the same spot from when he first came into the room. James pulled his arm to get him to follow as he walked past.
Remus muttered the password and carried her trough the portrait hole. He walked quickly across the common room and up the stairs two at a time.
Sirius was right behind him and eyed the small group that was the only ones in here with narrowed eyes as if saying to keep their mouths shut and bounded up the stairs behind Remus followed by James and Peter.
Remus carefully placed her on his bed but she didn’t let go of him. She wasn’t ready to look him in his face. She pulled every bit of courage she had within her and pulled back.
Her eyes were swollen from crying and one was a little purple from obviously being hit and the corner of her mouth had just a trace of blood.
Remus looked into her eyes and didn’t see his Dillia. Instead he saw a timid and such a damn haunted look. A look he had seen many times in the reflection of his own eyes.
She swallowed a lump that was stuck in her throat and she winced. Her hands went to her throat and Remus noticed the bruising that started to show up there in the shape of fingers. His eyes stopped on the bite that was on the side of her neck.
He felt like he was going to be sick. He put his hand up and went to run a finger across the mark and she winced away.
She quickly stood and held Sirius’ cloak to her. “I need to shower. I have his filth all over me.” she said her first words since they found her. Her voice sounded raspy and horse.
“Use ours.” Remus said grabbing her hand, afraid to let her out of his sight.
She nodded in agreement being afraid to be alone right now herself.
Remus stood behind the wall of the showers while she undressed what clothes she had on. He noticed she must have had the shower on containing mainly hot water from all the steam.
She scrubbed her self viciously and had the water so hot she could hardly stand beneath it as it scolded her skin.
When she was done she wrapped a towel around her and went over to the sink and wiped the mirror with her hand. Remus leaned against the sink next to her and watched her.
After turning the water on she cupped her hands and brought the water to her mouth. Gargle, rinse spit…gargle, rinse, spit…gargle, rinse, spit…
“Dillia…that’s enough.” Remus said pulling her away from the sink and turning her to look at him.
She looked up at him and shook her head. She felt so dirty, disgusting and no mater how many showers she took she thought it wouldn’t be enough.
She looked up in the mirror above the sink and frowned at her reflection. She slammed her palm into the sink. “Damn Malfoy!” she yelled as she ran her finger over the bite mark on her neck.
“Malfoy?” Remus asked. “He did this.” he said it more as if answering his own questions. “We’ll get him. He wont ever hurt you again, he will never come near you, I swear to it.”
She shook her head and lifted her eyes to catch his. “Remus, its bad. I had to agree to meet with him when ever he says.”
“Oh the hell you do!” he had grabbed her shoulders and not realized he had done so.
“Remus…he knows. If I don’t meet him when and where he says then he is going to tell whoever will listen.”
“He knows? He knows wha..” he had stopped and left his mouth open for a moment. “This is because of me, he did this to you because of me.”
“No, Remus. He did it because I would have nothing to do with him. He has tried to blackmail me every since then. He knew I would do anything for my friends. I love all of you. I can let him turn you guys in. Not because of me.”
“I don’t get it. He says all this stuff about pureblood and he was always calling you mudblood. So now why is it all different suddenly?”
“Because I’m not.” she whispered
Here it is. A secret in which she kept to herself for seven years. She felt if at all possible worse. He trusted them enough with his secret and she couldn’t even tell them something as little as her name.
“Your not what?” he asked
“I’m not a mudbloodllialliams is my mothers maiden name.” she hoped to stop there on this but she knew he deserved the truth.
“Dumbledore said it wouldn’t be wise for me to come here with my given name. Especially since everyone thought I was going to make Slytherin, even the hat had doubts. Dumbledore said he knew that the hat would have trouble placing me, torn between putting me where I belong and where I should be. He asked me if I would tip the scales, so to speak and ask for Gryffindor.”
“Why would he want you in Gryffindor?”
She looked down at the tile floor and chewed on her lip. “Because…”she glanced up “…that’s my name.”
He furrowed his brows. “Gryffindor?”
She nodded. “Cordillia Lynn Gryffindor.”
“Why didn’t you tell us?”
“Well at first I was going to, but then it was just a name. I became Dillia Williams. For the first time I realized what it was like to not be a Gryffindor or even a heir. I liked who I was. I was a Marauder, by default of course but I was one. I was one of you. You guys accepted me the way I was. Just as we accepted each other.”
“So when that didn’t work he came after us. So now its us or him. Well screw him! You are not going. I don’t care who he tells.” he pulled her to him and she sunk into the hug. When he pulled back her eyes were glassy with tears. She cursed those tears. In seven years that she knew them not once had she cried, and now here she was crying more times then she could count within one night.
He smiled weakly and kissed her. “Here you need to get dressed. Sirius said you can borrow these.” he said handing her some pajama bottoms. “and here is one of my shirts.”
She slipped the bottoms on under her towel and pulled the ties tight so they would stay up. They were at least half a foot too long and they drug the ground and hid her feet.
She took the shirt and as she was slipping it over her head when she took in a deep breath, it smelled like Remus. She smiled to herself at the automatic comfort she felt being wrap in Remus’ scent.
“Come on.” Remus said putting a arm around her lightly. “Lets get you in bed. You need to get some rest.”
He took her over to his bed and pulled the blanket up to cover her. He sat on the side of the bed and bent down and kissed the side of her face where a purple bruise was starting to show darker. Then picked up both her hands and kissed her wrist where they too were turning purple from being tied. He stood up to go over to the others, who were waiting over on James’ bed.
“Remus?”
He turned and looked at her.
“Don’t, please…just don’t start plotting together on how to get your revenge. This one is mine. Besides I know you and I know James and Sirius. All three of you will do something out of anger and you wont be able to think straight, you will be blinded by your anger. Let things cool down before WE do anything about this. I still have to deal with Lucius. We will get Macnair before long.”
“Your not going to do anything with Lucius!” he snapped
“Remus…just promise me you wont go after them yet…and be sure Sirius doesn’t either.”
She took his silence as a ‘alright‘ then rolled over.
Remus went over and told the other what all he had found out.
“Did she tell you exactly what he did to her?” Sirius whispered
“No…” Remus shook his head. “But I can tell he hit her several times. There is a bite mark on her neck, and he must of choked her, her whole neck is bruising….and well…you saw how she looked when we found her.”
“How dare he do that to her! What if he…” Sirius felt beyond anger
“NO!…” Remus yelled
“Shhh.” James said looking back to Remus’ bed. He felt like Remus was the one that usually kept him, Sirius and Dillia calm and just looking at Remus, he thought he had never seen him more angry. He would much rather be on the end of the wolf’s wrath then having to face Remus right now if he was Macnair. Someone had to stay calm and he was the only one left for that.
“No…he didn’t. He touched her though.” Remus said making a face as if he was going to be sick. He fist were clenched tight and he wanted to scream….to howl.
“How can you be so certain?” James asked
“I…I just know!…I would smell it.” he said trying to keep from bursting from the room, wanting to go and strangle the filth that did this with his own bare hands.
He started to walk back and forth across the floor and James came up and put a hand on his shoulder.
Remus shrugged his shoulder and reached up and knocked James’ hand off. He turned and looked at James, his mouth in a snarl. They could almost see his canine teeth elongating and his eyes flashed, he growled from somewhere deep in his chest.
They have seen that look hundreds of times. Except then it was during a full moon and he was changing into Moony. Remus’ transformation usually looked painful, the look that Remus always held in his eyes just before changing, it was always dread, pain, fear and sorrow crossed with something wild. But now it was happening and nothing was there but anger.
Peter shrunk down into Wormtail and scurried under the bed. James looked at Sirius, his look was askin the they should too change. Someone was going to have to protect Dillia if he did change and they could only do that if they were Prongs and Padfoot. They would have to put themselves between Dillia and Moony.
Sirius shook his head in answer then stepped forward towards Remus.
“Remus, you cant do this. Think about Dillia. She is right over there and this will not help her any.”
Remus turned his back to them and fought for control. His breath coming in quick pants. He stood there until his breathing was normal, when he turned back, there was tears in his eyes.
He couldn’t believe what just happened. Its never been that bad before, never. He was always able to keep the wolf under the surface.
“Lets get some sleep. We need to be up and here for her when she gets up.” James said breaking the silence. He couldn’t really think what else to say.
Remus nodded and didn’t say anything else. He just turned and went over to his bed, slipped on his pajama bottoms and slipped into bed behind the closed curtains.
Dillia rolled over and looked at him, smiled weakly then curled up in his arms so he was spooning and and slowly went back to sleep.
Remus on the other hand didn’t sleep hardly at all. He laid there holding her as she mumbled, cried and struggled in her sleep. She would wake up in a startle and found that she was crying in her sleep, then lay back down and silently cry herself back to sleep molding herself against Remus.
Sure enough she woke up early and the guys were thankful they went to bed when they did. No one spoke about what happened. They dressed and walked Dillia down to the common room.
Remus waited at the foot of the stairs leading to the girls dormitory while she went up to change clothes.
Dillia ran up the stairs to her room and dug through her clothes. She ended up wearing a white turtle neck to hide the bruising and the bite mark that was on her neck even though she knew she was going to be burning hot before lunch time. She slipped on some of her favorite bell bottoms thankful it was a Saturday and not having to wear the uniform.
She went over and stood in front of the mirror. Her shirt was too tight, revealing her breast prominently.
Normally she would of wore it like that but not today. She pulled it and hopped on one foot trying to get her knee in her shirt to help her stretch it. Next she pulled out her make up and tried to cover her eye that was now official black. After a large quantity of make up, she slowly made her way down the stairs.
“You look beautiful.” Remus said seeing her worried look.
She nodded and they all went down to the great hall.
Just out side the doors she stopped and shook her head.
She felt like her chest was constricted and she suddenly started to shake and couldn’t breath.
Remus felt her hand tighten and looked at her.
“I cant do this.” she said pulling away
Remus’ hand tighten around hers and kept her from running.
“Dillia, don’t let them do this to you. You can do this. I am right here with you. I wont let anything happen to you.”
“Yeah, so are we.” Sirius said
“I’m not going anywhere, you can count on me.” James added
Peter looked at her and shook his head happily, his hair bouncing to and fro.
She nodded and Remus put a arm around her waist and pulled her so close it looked as if they were connected at the hip.
He leaned down to her ear. “Smile, and be as if you are having the time of your life. Show them they cant get to you.”
She nodded and plastered a phony smile on her face.
This didn’t satisfy Remus. He leaned back down to her ear, growled and rolled his tongue. Then to her surprise he nipped her ear.
Her eyes shot wide and she looked at him. He laughed. “Now there’s my Dillia.”
She laughed and a large smile spread across her face as she placed an arm around Remus. This happened at such perfect timing. If anyone was watching them when they entered the great hall they would of saw the same o’ Dillia, if not a happier Dillia…being that she was on Remus’ hip and in his arms.
They went over and sat at the table and Dillia was starting to feel like her normal self as she added food to her plate. That is until she felt eyes boring into her.
Remus felt her stiffen next to him and he looked over at her. She had looked up and he followed her eyes to the Slytherin table across the great hall.
Several people were all looking at her. It took everything he had to keep from jumping up and going over there and giving a good muggle beating to three of the people that belonged to three sets of those eyes, the only thing stopping him was Dilla’s hand on his as he went to rise from his chair.
He lean into her again, “You need to eat.” he said picking up a peace of bacon and bringing it to her lips.
She looked at him and he lifted a brow.
“I’m going to hold this here until you eat it.” he said
She laughed and opened her mouth and bit off the end of the bacon.
He kissed her cheek. “That’s better.”
She took the beacon and started to eat it herself.
“Oh and here I thought I was going to get to feed you.” he said teasing.
She laughed openly and handed the bacon back to him, but not before she brought it to his lips for him to bite.
After he took the bacon she playfully nipped his finger tips when there was nothing left but a small bite pinched between his fingers.
He took his thumb and finger and sucked on the ends one at a time. She found herself watching him and her lips parted as if she was the doing the same. He looked over at her and she smiled and looked back down at her plate.
When they finished eating they went to leave the great hall and go down to the side of the lake. She went to walk with Remus as he put his arm around her again but Sirius suddenly stood on the bench, put one foot on the table and leaped over.
Someone cleared their throat from the staff table and Dillia look up to see several professors watching them.
Now that Sirius was on their side of the table, he bent over in front of her. She perked a brow.
“Hop on.” he said
“Sirius, we’re still in the great hall.”
“Since when would that of stopped Miss Dillia?”
“Hmm.” she said as she hopped up on his back. “good point.”
He stood up and she realized just how tall he was. She put one arm over his shoulder and across his chest. She went to pull the other to lock hands but Remus didn’t seem to want to let go of the hand he was holding. Which made the three of them look more funny then it would have if it was just her on Sirius’ back, as if that was seen everyday.
Sirius put a extra bounce in his step making Dillia squeak and laugh hardily as they left the great hall with every eye on them.
At lunch Dillia was feeling much like herself and tried to ignore the glances she kept getting from the Slytherin table. When she noticed their glances turned to stares as if they were anticipating something to happed she grew anxious.
Sirius’ constant chewing while talking with his mouth full and sucking on his fingers after he took in the last bite of what ever he was eating, she snapped.
“Could you stop it! You sound like a cow trying to pull its foot from the mud!”
They all looked over at her and she bit her lip.
“I’m… I’m sorry.” she said looking down at her plate.
“Its alright Dillia.” he said swallowing what was left in his mouth. “Heh…that wasn’t what you were thinking this morning when you were watching Remus.”
She blushed and was about to snap a comeback but stopped. Just then a owl swept through the hall and it became obvious what the Slytherins were waiting on. The owl swooped down and dropped a letter in front of Dillia.
She looked at it for a minute before picking it up and opening it as they watched her.
Remus lend over her shoulder and read it with her.
Astronomy tower. Midnight. Come alone. Your Slytherin alumni LM
“The hell your going!” Remus snapped as he grabbed the parchment and tore it up.
“Remus, I have to.” she said swallowing a lump in her throat. “If I don’t…”
“I don’t care!”
“I do! I am not going to let you guys take the fall because of me.”
“Dillia don’t.” James said from across the table.
She slammed her hand down on the table and stood up abruptly making everyone jump and look at her. The whole hall was looking at her. She lend in to speak. “Damnit, you don’t get it! I cant let you guys do this.” she turned to Remus and caught his eyes. “You trusted us with this and I will be damned it gets out because of me.”
She turned and started out of the great hall and headed for the common room. The others quickly jumped up and caught up with her.
After they were in the common room they sat around the fire in their usual chairs while Sirius and James sat on the floor so they could gather together in a huddle to talk.
Finely when they couldn’t talk her out of going, Remus decided he would be accompanying her.
“If you are so determined to do this, then I am going with you. Your not going alone and that’s that.”
She opened her mouth to point out it said to come alone but he stopped her.
“Your not going to talk me out of it. I can use James’ cloak. He wont even know I’m there. At least that way if he tries something…” his voice faded off.
She closed her mouth and actually like the idea of not having to go alone, and that Remus would be with her.
