A new middle
Harry woke up and brushed his teeth before leaving the confines of his room.
When he went downstairs he saw that Draco was already up. “Oh, I was just about to come get you.” Said Draco looking at Harry and couldn’t help but think that his Griffindor looked good even in the morning.
“What do we have for breakfast?”
“The usual. I haven’t eaten yet, I was waiting for you.”
“Oh, well, um, sorry to keep you waiting.”
“It’s fine!”
They ate their breakfast and quickly got dressed to go to their classes.
“You know, our room is in the middle of everything. It doesn’t take long for us to get to our classes with where our room is.” Said Harry looking at his schedule again.
“Yeah, everything’s too perfect. There’s something weird going on. There has to be.”
The Griffindor laughed and it was such a beautiful sound to Draco’s ears.
They entered the potions room, they had double potions first thing in the morning, and they made to separate but for the first time professor Snape was already in the class and instructed the two of them to sit together. This caused both Blaise and Ron to turn bright red with anger.
“I thought it would have been quite obvious Mr. Weasley and Mr. Zabini that if you are to eat, sleep, and breath your room mate, that you would no doubt sit next to them in class as well.”
“But then they’ll be together all the time.” Protested Ron
“Well yes, indeed they would be, if it wasn’t such a dull observation I would actually give you points for putting that pathetic brain of yours in motion Mr. Weasley.”
Ron glared at the potions master who smirked back at him.
“Then we wont have time to spend with them ourselves.” Said Blaise
“That’s the point, it is to see how well you can get along with another house member. I see that you and Mr. Weasley here wasted no time in arguing last night.”
“How did you know?” Asked Ron
“We monitor the competitors obviously. We know if you argue or if you get along with one another.”
Professoape ape turned to look at the class once again, “Class, today you will be working on a binding potion. Everything is on the board, you may begin.”
“Bloody git!” Muttered Ron under his breath.
“Oh shut up Weasley, your snoring kept me up enough last night.” Said Blaise
“I don’t snore!”
“Yes you do. I don’t know how the rest of your dorm could stand you. I guess it’s like their dream come true now that you’re no longer with them. Pity I’m the one who has to suffer for your old dorm mates happiness.”
“Fuck you Zabini.”
“Five points from Griffindor for use of foul language in my class.”
Blaise smirked at Ron but continued to brew his potion.
Either than that the class continued on without anymore interruptions.

After our boys returned to their room to have lunch they made their way to their creatures which was outside in the snow.
When they neared Hagrid’s hut they were quickly pounced upon by Ron and Blaise.
“That did didn’t try anything did he?” Asked Ron narrowing his eyes accusingly at Draco
“Don’t call Draco a git! It’s Harry who would have tried anything that slut!” Replied Blaise
“Slut? Since when was Harry a slut?” Retorted Ron
“Since always Weasel.” Replied Blaise coolly
“Boys! What are you doing?” Shouted Hagrid looking at them with a rather angry expression on his face.
“Nothing professor.” Replied Blaise pulling at Draco’s sleeve as he approached their professor.
When they neared to their surprise Hagrid did not look any happier than he did before.
“You boys know the room mate rules. Not allowed to bend them rules.”
“But professor-” Protested Blaise
“No, strict rules from Dumbledore. Would have thought you Slytherin’s would have understood that by now. Blaise, take Ron and go to the other side of the field. I want to see you no where close to ‘arry and Draco here.”
The red head and the black head walked away muttering silent curses at Hagrid but Hagrid just rolled his eyes and shook his head and mutter something himself that sounded like ‘idiots’.

After a few more classes the competitors started catching on. They were not allowed to associate with the other competitors during class or when they were in their own quarters. This left their free time available to roam as they please.
Ron and Blaise both tried to wait for Harry and Draco but they never came. Neither of them ever came to their boyfriends. This is when Ron started getting angry.
“Your damned boyfriend took my boyfriend. He’s probably forcing him into betraying me or something!”
“Don’t be a fool Weasley. If anything it’s your boyfriend who’s forcing my boyfriend to betray me. Your boyfriend is betraying you because he just doesn’t love you anymore.”
“Shut up Zabini!”
“Oh? No retort? Touched a spot have I?”
Ron didn’t say anything and gave up waiting and returned to his quarters. After a while Blaise followed his roommate.

Ginny watched from a secluded corner. She grinned broadly at what was happening between the couples. They were slowly falling apart. This was great news. She happily made her way to the potion maters office to inform him of the great news.

“Draco, you think we should, you know, check on our boyfriends?”
“Why?”
“Because they might get mad or think we’re up to something.”
“Aren’t we?”
“No.”
Draco ned ned at his naïve Griffindor. “Harry, isn’t it so obvious what the four have planned?”
“No. Whatoingoing on? How come I never know what’s going on?”
“Because your too innocent Harry. It can only be expected.” Sighed the Slytherin
“What? I am not! I’m very naughty you know?”
Draco raised an eyebrow at Harry, “Really?”
“Yes.” Said the Griffindor who couldn’t help but blush.
“Well then maybe you should show me just how naughty you be.”be.”
Harry was about to accept when he remembered Ron. “No, I promised Ron. I’m not going to go back on my word.”
Draco glared at Harry, “Why exactly DID you promise the Weasel?”
Harry opened his mouth to answer but then was too lost for words because, well because there simple were no words on a count of being because there was no answer.
“Well? Are you going to say something or are you just going to look like you just learned something?” Said Draco chuckling
Harry stuck his tongue out at his roommate but didn’t say anything to rebuttal his comment, he really didn’t have anything to tell Draco, “Draco, there is nothing.”
“Wait, you mean you promised the Weasel for NOTHING?”
Harry nodded.
“God Harry, why didn’t you SAY so? We could be shagging until the cows come home by now!”
“What?”
“Yes Harry, I want to shag you. Problem?”
“Yes, you have Blaise and I have Ron.”
“Come on Harry,” Said Draco taking a seat on a couch beside the fire, “even I know that it’s over between Blaise and me. It’s over between you and freckle face and you know it as well as I do!”
“No, that’s not true, I love Ron.”
“Don’t you remember the conversation we had under the tree?”
“Yes but-”
“There are no but’s Harry. When it’s over it’s over. You don’t love him, not the way you love me. It’s basically the school letting us be together, in secret or not, we’re living together Harry. Isn’t that obvious enough for you?”
“But what do I do when Ron comes calling for me?”
“You tell him to sod off. You’re taken.”
“But it’s not that simple Draco.”
“Yes it is. Here, you won’t even need to tell him, owl him a letter telling him it’s over. Which is a good idea, I should do that myself.” Said Draco getting up and entering the library followed by a protesting Harry.
“But it’s not that simple. What if he gets angry? You know we all still have classes together. He’s very scary when he’s angry you know that?”
“Well then, do you think that there’s not going to be someone watching to stop him?”
“Maybe but still, its not a good idea. I’ll be betraying him.”
“No you wont. There was nothing to betray from the beginning.”
Draco finished his letter and waited for Harry to finish his own.
“Come on! What exactly are you writing? An essay?”
“No, I’m just, I just want to explain everything to him.”
“Harry, just tell him it’s over and that’s it.”
Harry looked up at Draco sympathetically and Draco gave in.
“Fine, fine, I give!” Said Draco putting his hands in the air and taking a seat on a chair in the room.
When Harry was finally finished with his explanation they left their room to make their way to the owlery.

On their way there they ‘accidentally’ bumped into Hermione and Pansy.
“Oh, Hey Harry! Hey Malfoy!” Said Hermione in a cheery tone.
Draco thought this was his best chance to ask, “Granger, what do you have to do with this competition thing?”
Hermione blushed and eyed Pansy who smiled back.
Draco’s eyes widened, “Never mind. I don’t think I want to know.”
“Hey!” said Pansy who whacked Draco’s arm.
“So, what are you guys doing here?” Asked Hermione
“We’re sending letters.” Replied Harry nervously
Draco rolled his eyes, “We’re breaking up with our boyfriends.”
Hermione’s eyes widened and a smile played across her face, “No way!”
“Yes way!” Said Draco eyeing Hermione suspiciously, “Why are you so happy? I thought you’d be upset that your two best friends and going to split.”
“Well, not if one is not making the other one happy.”
“What? I’m not making Ron happy?” Asked Harry in shock
“No silly! I could tell you weren’t happy being with Ron. He was too demanding and manipulative. You don’t deserve that Harry. You deserve something better.” Said Hermione, and Draco could swear he saw her eyes flicker towards him at the last part of her little speech.
Harry smiled at his best friend, “Thanks Hermione. Your always so understanding.”
“Yup! That’s my girl!” Said Pansy who draped her arm over Hermione’s shoulder.
“Oh man, let’s get out of here Harry, I think I’m going to be sick til next week.” Said Draco turning a slight shade of green.

To most the competitor’s surprise some of them received a note from the Headmaster in the middle of suppertime.
Harry picked up his note and read,
“Dear Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy,
Please come to my office 20 minutes past dinner. We will be discussing the competition’s standings along with your current statuses.
Albus Dumbledore”
Harry shrugged and made eye contact with Draco to make sure that Draco knew what they were going to do.
It had been two weeks since they sent off their letters aney’vey’ve been getting the cold shoulder from their ex-boyfriends ever since.
Draco didn’t really care at all. Blaise was a good friend, but he was not a good friend if he was threatening Draco and keeping him from being happy. Harry on the other hand was going hysterical at Ron’s behaviour. He kept ranting on about how ‘he knew it was wrong to do that’. How ‘he shouldn’t have listened to Draco from the beginning. Their friendship was ruined now.’
After dinner they both tried to do a bit off homework and was off to the Headmasters room.
When they arrived only some of the roommates were there. Among them were Hermione and Pansy who were smiling broadly. Dean and Gregory were there who didn’t look happy but didn’t look upset either. Seamus and Vincent were there and they looked like they were fine. The two were both talking quickly to one another and giving each other little smiles here and there.
Harry and Draco took a seat and to their surprise the Headmaster smiled at their arrival and stood up.
“Good Evening competitors and thank you for taking the time for this meeting out of your schedule’s. Now, I will be speaking to the roommates privately about your current standings. Hermione Granger and Pansy Parkinson, please follow me to the room on your right.”
They left and Harry gave Draco a questioning look, “Why are Ron and Blaise not here?”
Draco shrugged. He had no idea why only some of the roommates were there and the rest were no.
Their turn came next and they both entered the room where Hermione and Pansy came out of both smiling even harder than they were before.
“Hello boys, please, take a seat.”
They both took seats across from the Headmaster who was looking at a piece of parchment with his eyebrows furrowed a bit.
“Well, I see that you boys have taken to get along fairly well, no arguments so far although Mr. Malfoy, you are trying hard to provoke Mr. Potter aren’t you?”
“Yes, because he keeps ranting about the break up.”
“Ah yes, well then, please just learn to shift yourself and try to make the other person happy. It works better that way. Now your standings, you are both in third place, with Ms. Granger and Ms. Parkinson in the lead followed closely by Mr. Finnigin and Mr. Crabbe. You are both not far behind because your relationship is not bad. I see that Mr. Potter is doing rather well in Arithmancy from the help of Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Malfoy; your grades have improved miraculously in Defense Against Dark Arts. I commend you both and with that you have both gotten ample amount of points for that matter in your favour.”
Harry couldn’t hold it in any longer, “Professor, why are some of roomroommates not here?”
“Oh, that’s because they have either already lost or they are on the waiting list to get back on.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that they have either already gotten in an argument therefore I had no choice but to take them out of the competition or they are getting on one another’s nerves which has landed them on the waiting list to be on good terms with one another again. Now if you have no more questions please make your way back to your chamber and let in Mr. Thomas and Mr. Goyle.”
The two boys left the room and quietly made their way to their chamber. It was too soon to go to bed so they stayed up working on some more homework they had and helping the other with some questions they had unanswered, neither speaking of what they had just heard. What if that meant that Ron and Blaise were out of the competition already?
*~*
Blaise was so angry. He was kicking whatever he saw and throwing whatever he could get his hands on.
“Stop it you idiot git! If you don’t stop I’m going to kill you!” Shouted Ron who was for once trying to concentrate on his work.
“Shut up! Your stupid boyfriend broke up with you too and you want to throw things and kick things just as much as I do!”
“Shut up!”
“Make me!”
“Argh!” that was it, Ron had enough, “Look, lets work together and get back at them?”
This certainly caught Blaise’s attention and he stopped whatever he was going to throw and looked at Ron, “What do you mean?”
“I mean that why not get back at them for breaking up with us? Those little cheaters deserve whatever they have coming for them.”
Blaise smiled, “You should have been in Slytherin with a conniving mind like that. Too bad your just plain stupid.”
Ron glared at his roommate but took out a piece of parchment and a quill as Blaise took a seat next to Ron and they started planning their revenge on their ‘cheating’ boyfriends.
When he went downstairs he saw that Draco was already up. “Oh, I was just about to come get you.” Said Draco looking at Harry and couldn’t help but think that his Griffindor looked good even in the morning.
