Chapter 5: Transfiguration
Ron entered Professor McGonagall\'s classroom first and hastily took his nex next to Hermione. Harry and Draco slowly made their entrance as the other students began to snicker and point. Hermione looked at Harry. She aswithwith her eyes: *Did you go to the bathroom? Is everything okay?* Harry nodded quickly at her.
Professor McGonagall sighed. \"Settle down, children. Everyone now knows the situation that Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy are in. We are all going to have to continue to work around this problem until a solution is found.\"
*Drat!* Harry had hoped that McGonagall would have been able to free him of (he looked sideways at Draco) his *burden*.
\"Everyone face front,\" McGonagall commanded. \"Potter, Malfoy, sit down.\"
The boys immediately tried to go in seperate directions to take their usual seats but the stress in their armsockets snapped them right back in place, side by side. The other students giggled uncontrolably.
Minerva became exasperated. \"Sit in the back! You two will share the last table. I do not wish to have any further disruptions in my class.\"
Harry and Draco sat together at the empty table. Crabbe and Goyle were more stunned than usual. They started to stand with the intention of joining their leader at the table in the rear. They couldn\'t imagine not having Draco right there with them to give cues on what to say, think, and do. Draco waved them back impatiently. Crabbe and Goyle froze. Draco shook his head and mouthed the words, *stay where you are!* The Slytherin lugs looked at each other and shrugged before facing forward in their seats.
Harry and Draco started to take out their books, parchment, and quills. It was more out of habit than out of a desire to obtain knowledge. They were bent forward over their schoolbags, on the floor between their seats. Their foreheads were almost touching. Draco got a close look at Harry\'s scar for the first time. He couldn\'t help but be impressed that Harry had survived the Dark Lord\'s attack. This boy would soon become a very powerful wizard, he thought with a shiver.
Harry returned Draco\'s gaze. Only minutes ago they had stared into each other\'s eyes, but this time Draco\'s pants were up. Harry blushed at the memory and turned to face forward in his seat.
Reaching for their quills at the same time, the boys realized that even taking notes would be a challenge; Harry was right-handed and Draco was left-handed--those were the hands that were tied together. Taking serious notes would be impossible.
Draco smirked at Harry. \"If you try to impeade my education by preventing me from taking notes, Dumbledore will hear from my father...and the *Ministry*,\" the Slytherin whispered, \"And you will recieve detention from *me*,\" Draco added pointing to the prefect\'s badge that was pinned to the front of his robes.
Harry rolled his eyes. \"Knock yourself out,\" he said pushing his scroll of parchment away. Hermione would share her notes with him later and they would probably be more precise than McGonagall\'s own lecture.
Defeated, Draco now realized that he would really have to pay attention and actually take notes. Fuming, Draco consoled himself by writing with an almost violent flourish forcing Harry\'s hand to be jerked all over the table and become covered in ink.
Harry\'s vivid green eyes flickered in anger. He thought of smashing the bottle of ink right on top of the ferret\'s blonde head. Instead, he took a breath and settled back in his chair. Malfoy would love to get Harry into trouble and give him as many detentions as possible. He wouldn\'t give Malfoy the satisfaction--if he could help it. *Besides*, Harry thought with a smile, *the ink would just bead up and roll off the ferret\'s hair once it came in contact with all the gel that kept it cemented in place.*
Draco saw that Harry was smiling and lounging in his chair as if he didn\'t have a care in the world. Incensed, Draco stepped up his efforts at annoying the Gryffindor. Draco\'s writing became an even more sprawlling from of calligraphy written at top speed. Harry gritted his teeth and started to go over quidditch plays in his mind while trying to ignore Draco. He was faintly aware of Professor McGonagall\'s voice as she droned on and on, peppered with Hermione\'s rapid-fire questions.
Harry\'s stomach started to growl loudly. He wished this class would just end already! He was starving.
Draco sneered at Harry and whispered, \"You\'re all bodily functions, aren\'t you? There\'s more to life than pissing and eating, you know, Potter.\"
Harry frowned at Draco. Was there something deeper under Draco\'s words or was he just being his usual *charming* self?
Without taking his eyes from Harry, Draco brushed the back of Harry\'s hand with his quill. The light touch of the feather held much promise. Harry couldn\'t help but close his eyes for a moment and revel in the electric sensations traveling up his arm.
Harry opened his eyes halfway. Draco was smiling at him--not sneering--an actual smile. Harry was about to return that smile when he noticed Ron had turned round in his seat and had been watching them in shock.
Harry sat straight in his chair. He grabbed the quill from Draco and snapped it in two.
Draco\'s face fell. He followed Harry\'s gaze to Ron. Ron stiffly turned back to face McGonagall.
Harry felt sick. He desperately wanted to talk to Ron; to explain that he wasn\'t some kind of weirdo; that what he saw was some kind of mistake. Harry put his head down on the table and waited for class to end.
To be continued...
A/N: Yup, this one\'s a real shorty! I\'m just a chapter or two away from getting Harry and Draco alone together, though...hehehe ;P
