Sunlight and moonbeams
Walking down the hallway to get back to her dormitory, she noticed the sun casting long shadows on the floor – it had to be late in the afternoon. Closing her eyes she tried not to think of what had happened, she just needed to go back to the common room and finish her DADA paper before reading the last chapter of…. She swallowed … potion.
Wondering why the hallway was so empty she concluded that the other students proberly were eating in the Great Hall now, that would be the reason why she didn’t meet a single living soul. Suddenly the sounds of running feet was heard, Amanda spun around only to see Potter and Weasley come running towards her. She heard Ron almost yell, out of breath.
“That was bloody amazing Harry, that was a flying that would have made Wood proud.”
Rolling her eyes Amanda turned but behind their backs she felt a sting in her heart or was it leftover pain from her meeting with the floor. Thinking of Wood – her brother… oh how she missed him and had they just played a Quidditch Match? She wanted to kick someone, she had someone specific in mind but that wouldn’t be clever. Was he right? Had they forgotten about her before the next Quidditch Match? Shaking her head she turned and walked in the first door she saw. Oh great –Myrtle’s bathroom. That stupid ghost would be babbling about how great she thinks Harry Potter is and about the time he was so heroic to save the entire school and the youngest Weasley. Feeling rather sick to her stomach she rolled her eyes and went to the sink, splashing some cold water in her face she gently and carefully dried it but just touching the hurting skin made tears spring from her eyes.
Clearing her sore throat, she climbed onto the window still and sat there, watching the empty fields on the North side of the castle. Resting her head against the cool glass she heard someone enter but since she never heard footsteps inside the room and only the door slam, she figure persperson had changed their mind and left her alone.
-Thank Merlin-
Time passed and only the silent sobs of the ghost girl in one of the cubicles was heard. Not really understanding how the girl could cry for decades she closed her eyes briefly. Her entire body was aching but there wasn’t anything to do about it. Her mind kept working on a plan how to escape this torment. Suddenly the door opened again.
“Amanda!”
Amandinchinched and looked towards the door.
“Professor!”
She looked puzzled and quickly wiped her cheeks clean of any evidence of tears. Clearing her throat she jumped from the window still and looked at him, chin up.
“Excuse me – but it’s the girl’s lavatory and I doubt that even professors are allowed to strol around in here”
Lupin smiled at her.
“Still got your humour, you’ve been a real blue stocking these last years – I blame Oliver.
Laughing lightly he walked closer but then noticed her red eyes.
“Have you been crying?”
Quickly looking down Amanda cleared her throat again.
“None of your business…”
She quickly passed him and headed for the door but he grabbed her arm. Crying out as this was the place of yet another bruise, she whimpered and pulled back, clutching her arm to her side. The spell the Potion Master had used to cover up the bruises only removed the stain not the pain. He had laughed darkly as he’d made that joke. When you’re sitting on the bed of your worst nightmare, battered and bruised and as God created you, jokes are not welcome.
Remus frowned and looked at her sternly.
“What’s the matter? Is it from the fall earlier this morning? You always get into trouble...”
-Trouble? Yeah, you should only know…-
Amanda rolled her eyes and suppressed the urge to shoot a dangerously glare at him, but something these last hours had taught her to respect the professors, mainly the male ones.
Sighing he pushed gently to the side and opened the door.
“Come on – let’s go see Madam Pomfrey – she’ll-“
“No, it’s ok… I just want to be alone…”
Trying to slide past him, he closed the door right before her and gently placed her against the wall.
“Amanda, Oliver wants me to take care of you because he knows you’re going through a difficult age”
Amanda snorted – he knew nothing, none of them did.
“You know you can talk to me, as more than just a professor… which reminds me, I am a professor and you will behave yourself around me”
Feeling a hand on her very much hurting cheek, she gasped with pain and bad memories and looked at the professor. He was giving her a stern look but his eyes were filled with worry and something else it seemed…
Remus had to restrain himself not to kiss her as she was standing there. She was scared, he could see that and it made him want to protect her. Wantem tom to show her that not all big brothers cared as little as Oliver.
Leaning towards her he slowly parted his lips and focused his eyes on hers.
Amanda froze. Had the entire world gone mad? Ice filled her stomach and she felt like she was going to pass out on the spot but who knew what he would do to her. Feeling how fear and angst moved her feet, she slid past him and flung the door open before bolting down the hallway.
Watching the girl disappear between his hands, Remus growled and knocked his head against the hard brick wall. How stupid of him.
(A/N: sorry guy, this will be the lest chapter this week, I\'m working on the rest but I need to write some of the finishing chapter\'s first (not to forget) so it might be a few days (or weeks) before I can continue - not to worry. And another thousand thanks for the lovely reveiws)
