Chapter Four


Over the following months, Hermione started to feel less paranoid about someone watching her and tried to get on with her life. She started saying yes to men that asked her out for dates every once and awhile, but never found that certain someone she wanted to get serious with.

Harry tried to talk her into dating Ron, ever since he found them sleeping together on the couch, fully dressed mind you. Ron and her laughed it off, knowing it wouldn’t work. Instead she watched as Ron got reacquainted with Lavender Brown and was very happy for them.

Kat noticed a big change in her mother. She was happier with herself and it showed. One day, her mom asked her if she wanted to have a picnic in the forest at the back of the house. She accepted happily as they made their lunch. Her mum slung her backpack on her back then carried the basket as they made their way to their favorite clearing in the forest, hand in hand.

Hermione watched her daughter as they sat eating their picnic, her blonde hair wild about her face. It wasn’t as blonde as Draco’s, but the blue of her eyes were identical to his. She smiled, “Kat, I would like to tell you about your father and answer any questions you might have about him, if any.”

“Are you sure, because if you’re not ready, I can wait.” Kat said trying to reassure her mum.

Hermione brushed a stray blonde hair behind Kat’s ear, “No, I think I’m ready. It still hurts, but I need to do this.”

“Okay.”

Hermione took a deep breath. “Well, your father and I were in the same year as each other. Each in different houses, a heavy conflict between the two. I’ll just say we had our share of fights, some fairly serious. He hated Harry and Ron, especially in the earlier years. You see, his father was not a very nice person, one of Voldermort’s closest followers.” Hermione sighed. Kat had heard of Voldermort and the death-eaters years ago, and she had asked a lot of questions back then, as she was a very curious, intelligent girl for her eight years.

Kat grasped her mother’s hand and sat closer, “What kind of things did father do back then?”

Hermione smiled, “Some, when you think back on it, could be funny, but it wasn’t at the time. Let’s see, he enlarged my front teeth, I used to have quite the buck teeth back then. Madame Pomfrey fixed them and made them smaller than they were before. And starting in second year he used to always call me mudblood. That used to hurt, but I was usually able to counter his insults and hide how that one word wohurthurt.

“What’s a mudblood?”

“Well, it’s usually an insult given out by pure blood witches and wizards towards people that have muggle parents. A lot of purebloods back then didn’t get along with muggle borns, thought they were better than anyone else.”

“Father sounds like a very mean person, what happened to make you like each other?”

“I’m not going to lie to you and say he wasn’t mean, but a lot of that had to do with his father. His father was very controlling. If he didn’t do or act like his father wanted, he was usually punished. Then in our sixth year, Voldermort was defeated and the majority of the death-eaters imprisoned in Azkaban prison for wizards. His father was among them. Your father slowly was able to be himself, which turned out to be a nice and caring person, once you got over his snide remarks. He used to even tutor some of the younger kids when they needed it. It didn’t take until our seventh year that we started to feel an attraction towards each other. We were both Head Boy and Head Girl that year. We loved each other very much, I still do.”

“How did he die?”

“At the end of our seventh year we were making our final plans for our wedding when he needed to go to his family’s mansion to oversee some things. His father was murdered in prison by Voldermort’s sister, then she came after the rest of his family. While they were in the house, it exploded and burst into flames, killing him and his mother in the fire.”

“What was his name?”

“Draco Malfoy. That’s where I got your middle name Dracilla from. I wanted something of him in you. Although, you look very much like him.” Hermione smiled.

“Did he ever get along with Harry and Ron?”

“Yes, they eventually became friends, not close friends, but they tolerated each other. Mostly for me I think.” She smiled sadly. “Actually, Blaise was his best friend throughout school, I’m sure he would be able to tell you some things about Draco also.”

“Did he know about me?”

“No he didn’t. I found out I was pregnant with you after he had died. I know that he would have been very proud of you though.”

“Did he play quiddich?” As she loved the game and just recently went to one with Ron.

“Yes, he was a seeker, same as Harry, for the Slytherin house. He was a pretty good player.” She pulled out a photo album from her backpack. “I have some pictures here of him, I thought we might look through them together.”

Katrina sat between her mum’s legs as they opened the pages together. “This is him in his quiddich robes.....this one is at the fair when we were both dunked in the dunk tank....” Hermione smiled at the memories as they went through the pictures one by one. They came to the last picture which was at the New Years Ball where he proposed to her. Hermione skimmed her fingers over the picture as a tear fell on the open book.

Kat turned around and hugged her mum tight. “I still miss him Kat.” Hermione cried as she held on to her daughter.

Authors Note:
I have had a few reviews in concern with me \'killing\' off Draco, and the pairing of Ron and Hermione. Ron didn\'t take advantage of Hermione, she needed someone real, someone not in her dreams. Ron is there for her. I will say that other that Draco, Hermione will be paired with only three other people in the story. I am not finished writing the st but but kind of know where I am going with this. What Harry finds in the bed will be revealed later.
