Chapter Five: Its all about Balance.

Hermione threw her quill onto the desk with a tired groan. Flexing her arms over her head, she stretched her arms over her head to work the kinks out of her spine. With every pop, she let out a moan. Each crack sounded worse than the last but it made her feel much better. It had been a long day and she was tired. Sitting, bent over a desk, for hours was murder on her back. She looked down at the paper she was working on. The History of Flying. She shook her h No No matter how hard she studied flying, the actual act scared her. Madame Hootch believed that if Hermione read about the subject, it may become more appealing to her.

\'How was she going to be a proper witch\' Hooch reasoned, \'without knowing how to control a broomstick?

She looked around the library. Curfew wasn\'t for a couple more hours. She bit her lip as she thought through her options. Harry and Ron were with Ginny and Lavendar. Neville was busy tonight as well, with whom she still wondered. Professor Snape, well, she had to be careful with him. She couldn\'t go running to him every time she needed satisfaction. She sighed. All options blocked. Well, back to work. Maybe she could discover something to make flying more attractive to her.

Thirty minutes later, Hermione closed the book in front of her. Her report was finished but still she hadn\'t found any redeeming qualities about flying. She sighed and glanced outside. It was a clear night and not a bit chilly. She tapped her quill against her temple in thought. All the other students were inside. She glanced around the empty room and made a decision. It couldn\'t hurt to attempt to put into practice what she had been reading about.

She quickly gathered her things and made her way down to the Quidditch Pitch. A slight breeze fluttered her robes and tossed her hair about as she crossed the lawn. The near full moon cast a ghostly light upon the pitch, illuminating it and yet casting shadows from the tall towers. As she entered the pitch, she turned towards the Gryffindor locker room. Harry and Ron had given her the password after their little \'encounter\'. She smiled. They would be surprised at how she was using her information.

Hermione searched the many lockers until she found Harry\'s old Firebolt he kept on reserve. She looked at it, weighed it in her hand, and sighed. \"Well, if I\'m going to learn, I guess it wouldn\'t hurt to use the best broom available. Here goes nothing.\"

She walked outside, broom in hand and looked over the empty field. The ground seemed soft and she stomped her feet in the sand to check for softness. It gave way easily under foot and she nodded to herself, happy to know that if she did fall the damage wouldn\'t be to bad to her body. Determination now stirred her on and she grabbed the handle of the Firebolt and swung her leg over to straddle the broom. After clumsily mounting and kicking off, she worked to hover smoothly. She took a few breaths and thought how happy she was that there was no one around to see her.

She didn\'t dare get to far off the ground as not to hurt herself. She slowly flew around the Quidditch pitch, her balance getting better with each pass. She began to smile and let her mind wander as she gained more confidence.

\"Not bad, for a Gryffindor.\"

Hermione jerked in surprise at the unexpected voice and fell the few feet to the ground. She landed heavily on her bum, the broom falling slightly off to her right. She brushed her hair back out of her face and looked for the source of her embarrassment. She glanced up into one of the observation towers and frowned at the figure she saw standing there. \"What do you want?\"

With a chuckle, Draco mounted his own broom and flew down. To her disappointment he landed gracefully and held out his hand to her. \"I came out to relax for a while and saw you flying. You\'re not very good.\"

She grabbed onto his hand and allowed him to pull her to her feet. She smoothed her hair and her robes and then glared at him. \"Well forgive me for not being perfect like you, Ferrefacet.\" She shoved him playfully and shook her head at the teasing grin on his face. It still amazed her that since their sixth year, she and Draco had become close friends. Her two best friends and the whole House of Slytherin had been against it, but the two had proven their friendship was true and now had the houses at least speaking to each other with out pulling their wands. Most of the time that is.

He picked up the broom and looked at it. \"At least you tried to learn on the good equipment. Your form was all wrong though. You were sitting back to far on the handle. That threw your center of balance way off.\" He handed her the Firebolt. \"Get on and try again. I\'ll try to teach a Mudblood how to fly properly.\"

She took the broom from him and glared. \"I\'ll have you know that this mudblood is better than you in ever other subject at this school. You\'re just jealous.\" She stuck her tongue out at him as she mounted the broom. Trading barbs with him was one of her favorite activities.

She kicked off and hovered in front of him for a few moments, then shakily flew a lap around the Quidditch pitch. The moon shone down on her as she passed the towers in her low circle. She could feel Draco\'s eyes on her as she turned at the far end of the pitch and made her way back to him. Trying to keep the broom under control, she slowly flew back the her starting position and looked expectantly at Draco. He shook his head. \"No, no. Come down here.\"

She tilted the broom downward and clumsily returned to where he was standing. She unmounted and frowned at the offending object in her hand. \"I don\'t know why I even try. It\'s not like I\'ll ever need to know how to do this. There are portkeys, floo powder and apparation licenses. Who rides a broom anymore?\"

Draco frowned. \"Hermione, broom riding may be an outdated practice, but it is helpful to learn how to do it properly. You never know, there may come an occasion that the only way to get anywhere is to fly.\"

She rolled her eyes. \"Thank you Professor Ferret. If that\'s all, I think I\'ll get back to my practice now, without your help.\" She started to remount the broom, clearly upset with him, but halted when she felt his hand on her arm.

\"Hermione, look, I\'ll help. I swear, no comments, no snide remarks.\"

Hermione glanced between him and the broomstick in indecision. She had to learn to fly in order to pass Hooch\'s test. She wasn\'t doing a good enough job of learning on her own. She looked back at her friend and rolled her eyes at the contrite look on his face. \"Fine. Just tell me what I need to do.\"

He shook his head, the grin back on his face as he looked over her posture on the broom. He reached forward and placed his hand over her white knuckled strangle hold of the broom. \"First of all, you need to get over your fear of heights.\"

She frowned at him. \"I am not afraid of heights! I just don\'t like to go up on a broom because it\'s not stable.\"

Draco sighed, removed his hand from hers, grabbed his own broom and mounted. He looked at her. \"Well?\" Hermione just looked at him in confusion and he sighed. \"Get on Mudblood. I\'m going to show you why flying on a broom hasn\'t gone out of style.\"

Hermione allowed the broom to fall from her fingers as she moved to get on behind him. He shook his head and stopped her from sitting behind him. \"No. Get in front. That way, I can make sure that you are actually looking around and not hiding your face against my back.\"

Hermione breathed deeply and pressed her lips together in frustration. She did as he requested and took a seat in front of Draco. Her breath caught in her throat as he wrapped on arm around her waist and leaned forward to grip the broom handle in front of her. She leaned back and was pleasantly surprise to feel his chest against her back.

He kicked off smoothly and flew up above the observation towers. He felt her breath hitch as he pulled her back against him. He leaned forward to allow his breath to shift the hair covering her ear, tickling the shell, sending chills down her spine. His grip tightened around her waist. He smiled against her hair. \"Having fun?\"

She shook her head slightly and pressed herself back against him for additional security. He maneuvered the broom around the Quidditch pitch and over the canopy of the Forbidden Forest. He nudged her and whispered in her ear, \"Look around you. This is why people still fly.\"

She forced her eyes open and looked in front of her. The sky was extensive around her; a void reaching around to smother her with it\'s dark embrace. Above her, the stars danced in their entirety. She felt like she could reach out and grab any one of the stars around her and hold it for her own. The magical feeling of floating above the earth gave her a symbolic feeling of how it would feel to be an angel. They were hovering far above the forest with the gentle breeze wafting across her body. After aquatinting herself with the feelings of looking up, she made herself look down. The view was amazing. In the distance, the town of Hogsmeade looked as if it was made up of nothing but twinkling lights. She smiled as she looked over the landscape, seeing the actual beauty of the area.

She leaned back against Draco, letting her head rest against his shoulder. She whispered, \"I want to see Hogwarts.\" Draco nodded and turned the broom towards the school. Hermione gasped at the sight.

Even at this distance, she could make out each window; the stained glass illuminated by the glow of a vast amount of candles inside the castle. She could barely make out the shadows of the inhabitants inside. The near-full moon was reflecting off the waters of the lake, casting a romantic glow onto the castle. She let out a small gasp at the changes to her home the past seven years.

Draco tightened his grip around her waist. \"See, that\'s why people still fly. There is beauty everywhere. Being in the air only helps to bring out that beauty in the eyes of the seeker.\"

She nodded. \"It is beautiful.\"

He leaned closer to her. \"I\'ve seen things that are more beautiful.\"

She turned her head slightly to look at him. \"Is that a line Malfoy?\"

He smiled that impish smile at her. \"It could be. What would it get me?\"

She laughed. \"I thought you would have heard by now. You don\'t need lines to get me in the mood. \" She turned her torso so that she could kiss his lips. She let the tip of her tongue trail over his mouth. He groaned and gripped her waist tighter and almost pulled her onto his lap. She pulled away from him and smiled. \"Aren\'t you lowering your standards to fuck a mudblood?\"

He grinned. \"For you my dear, I\'ll live with the embarrassment.\"

Slowly, as not to disturb the stability of the hovering broomstick, she maneuvered to where she could sit sidesaddle on the broomstick. Slowly bringing her legs over the handle, she rotated her body until she was facing him.

He smiled. \"See, over your fear of heights already.\"

She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him flush against him, her eyes dancing with amusement and desire. \"Not quite, but I think you can help me with that.\"

His breath caught at the intense look in her face and he turned the broom and headed back to the Quidditch pitch. As they got nearer to the observation towers, Hermione leaned into him, her finger tilting his face to make him look at her. \"Don\'t land. Not now.\" He nodded and pulled the broom to a stop in midair. That look in her eyes cause his pulse to quicken. He wanted her, friendship be damned, and he was going to have her.

As if reading his thoughts, she gave him a wicked grin before she kissed him again. He moaned, one hand coming up to tangle in her hair, the other gripping the broom handle behind her. Now was not the time to lose control. She pressed herself forward. \"Just how good are you on a broom?\"

His eyes darkened with passion. \"Well, allow me to demonstrate me talents.\" He gently pushed forward and lowered her back against the broom handle. His voice was low as he adopted a popular \'teaching\' tone. \"The first thing to remember about riding a broom is everything is dependent on balance.\" He slowly leaned over and kissed her clothed stomach. \"Once you achieve balance, the rest is easy.\"

She smiled up at him, lying very still as he taught her the fine art of broom riding. Carefully so as not to disrupt their stability, he pulled his wand from his sleeve. \"Another aspect of flying is wind resistance. You\'ve heard of being aerodynamic?\" He waited until she nodded slightly then looked her over and took in her flushed appearance. He clothing fluttered in the slight breeze. \"Your clothes are not aerodynamic. Can I take care of that?\" She nodded again. With a swish and flick, their clothes melted away. She gasped at the sudden coldness, but smiled at the warmth radiating from Draco.

He whispered something under his breath and pulled her up and onto his lap.

\"What\'s the next lesson in flying?\" She smiled and slid her arms around his neck.

He grinned at her, wrapping his arms around her. He leaned back slightly. \"Form. Flying is all about form. Now you,\" he let his hands run up her sides to cup her breasts, \"you have a nice form.\"

She giggled at him and pressed her breast into his cupped palm. \"Show me your form.\" One of her hands moved down his stomach, her fingertips brushing over the hardness of him. She wrapped her hand around him, and pulled him gently towards her.

He took the hint. His hand snaked down between her thighs to test her readiness. His delight in finding her soaked in her own wetness caused his cock to jump in eager anticipation. He dipped his finger inside of her and stroked her slowly. Her moan was swept away on the breeze. He then brought the same finger to his lips and licked her juices from the tip. His gaze never left her when he gently cupped her rear and lifted her up to let her slide onto him. There was no resistance as they both moaned as they joined. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly against him. She moaned as he sharply thrust up into her. She moved her hips in time with his, her breath beginning to come in short gasps.

She tilted her head back to allow him to skim his lips over the soft skin of her shoulder and gently nip at her neck. She moaned out his name as they moved together. His fingers sank into the skin of her hips to guide her movements as they danced together on the air currents. Hermione\'s fear of heights was long forgotten in the practice of his teaching techniques.

She linked her fingers behind his neck, smiling down at him as she rode him. Her hair was wild around her face, the moon casting a halo around her. Draco felt his body respond to the vision before him. \"Beautiful mudblood, so beautiful.\"

She threw her head back. \"Oh Ferret! Fuck yeah. Harder Draco, please!\"

In response to her pleas, he lay her back against the broomstick. Balancing her carefully against the wood, he took her ankles and lifted her legs to rest on his shoulders. He grinned as he leaned over her. \"Harder Granger? I didn\'t know you were so kinky.\"

She groaned his name as she felt him go deeper into her. She could only nod at his words, her senses overcome with him. She felt him hit the spot that drove her over the edge and her body tightened and began to shake as she orgasmed.

His cock felt like it would be crushed by the grip of her inner muscles. Her orgasm ripped through her and sent shock waves through his cock into he groaned and felt his own release start. His body tightened and he buried his face against her neck and moaned into her skin.

When they had both calmed down, he allowed her to slip her legs from his shoulders. Pulling her back up into his lap, he simply held her body against him and enjoyed the softness of skin on skin. The glaze in her eyes left as he slid her off his now limp cock.

She sighed in disappointment at the loss, but let her fingers play with his blonde hair. Her curiosity got the better of her and she had to ask one question. \"What type of spell did you use when we started all this?\"

He didn\'t move from his position. \"Stabilization charm. Helps you keep your balance.\"

She playfully smacked his chest. \"Cheater. You don\'t happen to use that charm during Quidditch matches do you?\"

Draco tilted her face up to look at his never faltering grin. \"Come on now Mudblood. You know me better than that. Would I do something like that?\"

She kissed his nose. \"Yes. I do believe you would. Where did you learn something like that anyway? In all the books on flying I\'ve read tonight, I don\'t remember reading anything about stabilization charms.\"

He grinned as he played with a lock of her hair. \"Father. He knows a great many charms that many wizards don\'t. Anyway, how do you think I was conceived?\" He raised his eyebrows at her.

Hermione laughed and pushed him away from her. \"You had better hope nothing else has been conceived tonight.\" She noticed a slight panic in his face and she chuckled. \"Don\'t worry Draco. I was only teasing. I took a potion earlier this month. I\'m safe.\"

The relief on his face caused her to laugh loudly. She really did love to tease him. She felt a slight movement of the broom and shifted away from him. She shivered as the wind his her swear covered body. He noticed her discomfort and with another swish and flick, they were instantly cleaned and dressed. She leaned forward and planted a kiss on his lips. \"Thank you for the flying lesson Draco. I know now why we\'ve kept you around.\"

He laughed, pulled her against his chest, and landed the broom on the field. They dismounted and she quickly tucked Harry\'s broom away. With a last lingering kiss and promises to meet again soon for more lessons, they headed their separate ways back to the castle.

***

Hermione was smiling as she entered the common room. Harry and Ron looked up from their game of Exploding Snap. Harry smiled. \"Hey Hermione. Where\'ve you been? We looked for you in the library.\"

She walked over and kissed each boy on the head. \"You\'ll never believe me, but I was out finding my inner love of flying.\"

Ron looked up at her with a frown. \"It\'s all right Hermione. If you don\'t want to tell us, you don\'t have to. You don\'t have to make up ridiculous stories.\"

She grinned as she sat down to join in the game. What they didn\'t know, wouldn\'t hurt them one bit.
